I'm a New Zealander from Auckland, with dual citizenship (NZ and Croatia). I've also lived in Kerikeri, Singapore and Papua New Guinea.
CAREER PATH: I started off as a Graphic Designer, then went to Auckland University, where I got a BA degree in Art History and Italian Studies and a post-graduate Honors degree in Art History. I worked in the Art History field, then became a full-time artist, doing commissions. I eventually lost all of my senses and gave it up to be a self-published writer, publishing my first book in 2011. Though, earlier in 2023 I returned to art, shelving being a writer since book pirates made it impossible to earn a living from my work, excessively pirating my books. They basically broke my spirit. However, a very nice reader spurred me on to try again, so I'm attempting to revive my writing career.
BAD HABITS: I'm a major procrastinator, I stay up way too late, and I get distracted far too easily unless it's doing something I love. My mind never stops racing, can't turn ADHD off.
SPORTS: As a teenager my favourite sports were karate, badminton, and running. I also did unarmed combat and played in a touch rugby team (my gym teacher made me do the last one!) As an adult, I've couched soccer and have completed two marathons, numerous half-marathons and one 30K run, though I stick to the gym now, hanging up my running shoes.
STATUS: Married to my high school sweetheart (which he hates me calling him). We have two kids.

A woman on a war path. Out for revenge, no matter what the cost. Subjecting herself to the lowest of to the vilest of experiences. SHe infiltrates the most tight nit of organisations, expecting one thing but is shocked to finds something else.
A mafia family like no other. Nothing is as it seems. A mind fuck of epic proportions.
I was anxious, I was highly aroused. And I was riveted! For such a short novella, I was surprised to find that characters where complex and were not one dimensional.
You won't no who to root for, all the characters have redeeming qualities. Well except one...
The author was bold, wrote shocking scenes that make the story more believable are something I love. I think this series will have them in spades.

Mafia , Slavery, and a Priest ? OH'MY!!.......... ..
What the ?..... How the ?..... Why the ? .........DAMN, this was NOT what I expected... Which is why I LOVED IT!!!..
The story starts off by introducing the reader to Rita.
She's an FBI agent who has a huge bone to pick with a certain *asshole* Mafioso named Frano. Rita agrees to go undercover and you can probably predict where this is headed..... or can you?
Now onto our stud muffin extraordinaire Jagger.
My first thought was "O'Lord..Here we go again!" but Mrs. Hansen's characters are always original. I really should have known better. I'm not going to spill any details.... but I will say Jagger's storyline had me thinking....
Now as far as the other faccia di stronzo go, this is all I have to say...

Did I just read??? Holy SHIZZZZ???? That was amazingly WRONG and AWESOME!!!! Oh my gosh, I can't wait for the next episode!!!!!
I don't know if I should want to punch you or kiss you Ms. Hansen but I'm leaning more towards the kissing. Now I must read more of your books!!!

AND I HONESTLY LOVED IT!
Marita A. Hansen is now officially my favourite author! I have read all her books and this one didn't disappoint either. It's nothing like her other series, BUT still has that razor sharp edge to it, the edge that makes her writing hard to put down, the edge that makes your heart pound as well as go OH SHIT! OMG! I NEED THE NEXT BOOK NOW! What an ending, what a crazy ride. I have read a few of these kidnap books, and hated the M/F ones and loved the M/M ones. So, this makes this book the first M/F kidnap book that I have loved, or even liked. GOD!
Now, before I become incoherent, I will give you the rundown on this book:
It's an episode in the first of a series, where we get to meet Rita Kovak.
She is an undercover FBI agent who is sent in to bring down the D'Angelo Mafia family, who are in the human trafficking business. So, she goes undercover ... as a freaking sex slave! Yes, you heard me right, she goes in to catch the attention of the Italian Mafia, pretending to be a normal woman, basically putting her in a position to be drugged and kidnapped.
But to do this she has to attract the attention of Jagger D'Angelo.
He's the bait set out to entice woman. And he is certainly enticing. He's described as a beautiful man who could've stepped out of a fashion magazine, but he's also described as a sadist. Still, his interaction with Rita in the bar is amusing, the banter between them. But by the end of that chapter, yikes! You guessed it, he takes her.
I just have to add this, because Jagger has a shower scene :D
And after that it was a ride, where we meet Alberto, who you will want to kill, then Frano, the Mafia Don, who has this scene with Rita in the bathtub, wow, but he is a total prick! And we also get to meet another slave, who Jagger named Honey. Poor woman.
Now I've finished being a perv, let's get back to talking about Jagger, rather than ogling him. He becomes Rita's master, and was a world of surprise. I think there will be moments where you will hate him, will drool over him, will feel for him, then get your emotions all mixed up and won't know how to feel. Looks like he is the antihero of this story. And the secrets you learned about him, and also what Alberto did to him in one scene... OMFG! This author always surprises me.
AND THAT FREAKING ENDING!!!!!!!!
I want Episode 2 so bad now, I NEED IT! Thank God I only have to wait a few weeks! November 1 please come quick!
Highly recommended for anyone who reads kidnap, human trafficking stories, dark stories, and who love hot Italian men, Mafia stories, strong heroines...

Wow, what a crazy, messed-up rollercoaster ride this was...
Seriously.
It was intense, fascinating, captivating and disturbing, all at the same time.
This novella sure takes Italian mob family cruelties to the extreme, but still I could not stop reading it!
And then it ended with one of the worst cliffhangers EVER.
So, of course, now I need to start the next one ASAP to find out what happens next...

This was good however I'm not sure how I feel about having to wait for the additional episodes. It may be one of those type of series I would prefer waiting until it is all out to read it all together. Haven't fully decided yet..
That being said I did enjoy this one and was surprised with ending. It had enough drama that I need to know where the story goes....

4.25 Take Me Stars
This story is a real page turner. It was addicting, action packed and had my full attention from the very first page.

It appears that each month a new installment will be released. Thinking about it, some may wait till several installments are out. I like the idea of having a guaranteed good read each month.
Rita is a FBI agent who is going undercover to disclose a mafia run slave trafficking ring. This is also personal….she is also seeking revenge for the death of her husband, Matt.
Rita plays her part and finds herself right where she needs to be. Can she handle it? Where the heck is she? Why are these guys so hot?

I found the writing and pacing to be very well done. The characters were really interesting. Especially Jagger…the guy is HOT, TWISTED and well you guessed it, I’ve got a new book crush.
I’m more than stoked for the next installment…

Reading this was the Best Decision ever!!!
Was this a good one...Oh Mrs Hansen really cooked up a winner here..
...we have the FBI..the Italian Mafia..and a snippet of a Priest..all slow cooked in a pot..that produced one mouth watering dish!!!
Let me introduce you to the characters..
Rita Kovac
She's an FBI agent who's dead set on getting revenge on the D'Angelo Mafia Family for the death of her husband..by going undercover as a sex slave..yeap I was thinking the same thing..
Now as for the D'Angelo Family....
First we have Jagger D'Angelo..
What can I say about this man..he's good looking..cocky..and women love him...although my opinion at first was one of...
Next we have Franco D'Angelo..
He's the one running things..and cousin to Jagger..He's ruthless and used to taking whatever and whoever he wants...and..
And lastly we have Alberto D'angelo..
He's the muscle and all around bad guy that's easy to hate!!! He's the brother of Franco!!...I only have 3 words for this character...
And on a side note we get a small mention of a character named..Father Michael Donatelli..
who we have yet to meet...but that mention speaks volumes about his character!!!
In all..I loved it..It was so out of the box and defiantly not what I expected!!! I can't wait for the next episode...until then let the excruciating wait commence..

You get Rita, Jagger, and the infamous Padre.
Rita is an undercover FBI agent who has accepted the role of sex slave in her quest to bring down a sex slave ring headed up by the one man she has vowed to kill in revenge, Frano, the Mafioso...the head hancho of this whole shabang.
Jagger is a smooth criminal, placed in the role of seducing beautiful women and training them for auction. But our hunk Jagger....he has...issues. That's all I will say about that...read the book! He is 18 kinds of emotionally fucked up.
Ohhh...let's not forget Padre Donatelli . Although we have yet to meet this S.O.B., I have a feeling he is going to be one sadistic bastardo. All I can say is poor poor man....ouchie!!
This book was definitely NOT what I was expecting....and I love that! You think you know what is going to happen next, but you really have NO idea!

The author has the ability to catch your attention on the first page and have you anticipating what is coming on the next - all the way up to the end! What a masterful writer Marita is!
This book introduces us to the main players in the series where the premise of the book deals with an FBI agent and the Italian Mafia.
Rita Kovak
Rita, the FBI agent, is a vengeful widow looking for retribution to the murder of her husband from the D'Angelo family but specifically from Frano (the Don). She volunteers for an undercover job in which she must be kidnapped and be trained by Jagger to become a "sex slave" for auction to the Black Russian.
Jagger D'Angelo
Jagger is the cousin to Frano and is the one who kidnaps and trains the women to be submissive for the sex slave auctions. He is a HOT HOT HOT anti-hero but at first meeting he comes off as an arrogant asshole. Deeper into the book, we learn that he has some major fucked up problems that stems from a priest in another mafioso family. Wait till you read that messed up scenario!
Alberto D'Angelo
Look up "asshole sadist" in the dictionary and that is Alberto. He is brothers with Frano and the brawn behind the operation. There is bad blood between him and Jagger and he just loves to stir up trouble between his brother and Jagger.
Frano D'Angelo
Frano is the mastermind and head of the operation, including being a sick fuck on top of it. When we first meet Frano he seems like a decent guy - soft spoken and empathetic to Rita --- but that changes instantly after the "bathtub" scene!
So, we have our character development in this book and this sets the stage for the soap opera of the FBI meets the Italian Mafia....Rita is set in place with revenge on her mind while Jagger begins his "mind-fucking" in order to train this sassy strong-willed girl.
Toward the end of the book, you start to question Jagger and his true intentions - there are times you feel sorry for him but then wonder if this is just a set-up in order to play his games with Rita.
Who is the true Jagger?
And WTF was that cliffhanger? Shit, Marita.....you just about gave me a heart attack with that one!!
Seriously, pick up this book and begin the mind fucked journey of Dark Romance with a twist toward Thriller.

Frano is the mastermind and head of the operation, including being a sick fuck on top of it. When we first meet Frano he seems like a decent guy - soft spoken and empathetic to Rita --- but that changes instantly after the "bathtub" scene!
So, we have our character development in this book and this sets the stage for the soap opera of the FBI meets the Italian Mafia....Rita is set in place with revenge on her mind while Jagger begins his "mind-fucking" in order to train this sassy strong-willed girl.
Toward the end of the book, you start to question Jagger and his true intentions - there are times you feel sorry for him but then wonder if this is just a set-up in order to play his games with Rita.
Who is the true Jagger?
And WTF was that cliffhanger? Shit, Marita.....you just about gave me a heart attack with that one!!
Seriously, pick up this book and begin the mind fucked journey of Dark Romance with a twist toward Thriller.

First of all I should explain how this series will work. This will be a series that is broken up into "episodes and seasons" just like on television. Every 3 weeks there will be a new novella that comes out, and there will be a total of 15 novellas per "season."
In the first one we meet Rita Kovak who is working undercover for the FBI to bust a human trafficking operation. This is personal for Rita as her husband was killed by the man who is involved in this trafficking ring. The other man she has to lure to get him to capture her, ends up being full of surprises and contradictions in more ways than one. In fact, it seems that once Rita is where she needs to be, there is nothing that is what it seems. Rita is a strong woman; but her reactions are also very surprising to her, and before she knows it she is beginning to think she may be in over her head.
This novella may be short, but it sure packs a punch. It is full of mystery, intrigue, oh and sex! This story is classified as a dark read, and be forewarned that there are scenes with rape. The rape is not too terribly graphic, but it is in the story so I felt that readers should be made aware of it. It took me a little over an hour to read this, and there was not a moment where I was bored. I am already anticipating the next installment, and I for sure am now a fan of Marita A. Hansen. Three weeks can't come fast enough for me!

As much as I hate cliffhangers I'm not letting that affect my rating. The story is intriguing as are most of the characters. I have several questions yet I'm not left wondering what's going on entirely. I would definitely recommend this and I'm certainly looking forward to the next part of the story. Also, the sexy time is hot!

That opening line was enough to tell me that this episode and the rest of the season and series will be fucking amazing!
Rita Kovak is a bad ass FBI agent with revenge on her mind. After her husband - Matt - is murdered, she decides that she is the very one who is going to take his killer down, said killer just happens to be the cousin of Jagger D'Angelo, a work of art with a GQ face and body that belonged on the cover of a magazine.
Jagger is the bait in his cousin's operation, his job is to use his beauty and charm to lure innocent females into a trap that ends their lives as they know it and thrusts them into a terrifying world that everyone in their right mind would want to stern clear of. After Jagger has the women, he whips them - literally - into being the perfect submissive sex slave that will be sold to the highest bidder at auctions.
Rita's plan is to get the attention of Frano D'Angelo, a human trafficking mobster and a member of the Italian Mafia, and hopefully be kidnapped by him. She has to gain Jagger's attention first and force it to stay on her long enough so she can be taken and become a sex slave to Frano. She isn't happy about it, in fact the thought of her husband's murderer touching her made her sick, but she is willing doing it in order to make Frano pay for what he did to Matt.
Even though Jagger is described in the opening few lines as an evil, sadistic bastard who preys on females, I can't help but really like his character. Not only is his extremely hot and Italian (Winning!) but his arrogance really amuses me.
I mean, in the mist of being turned down by Rita he is still optimistic as ever and Rita is still as charming.
While that made me LOL, Jagger getting Rita all flustered made me cackle!
Getting past the few funny parts, I was reminded the plot of the book was about a very real and devastating subject. While reading and being scared of the situation Rita was putting herself in, by the end of the first chapter after Jagger and his evil cousin Alberto took her, I was so excited that I squeaked!
Rita is a seriously strong and kick arse character, Jagger meets his match in her from the get go and finds that she is not like the other women he trains and that breaking Rita into submission will take time and a lot of effort. He likes that though, he likes that she makes him work and that she is strong instead of the other weak slaves whom he has broken so easily.
We also soon learn a bit of Jagger's dark past and what happened to him long ago and the evil promise of being returned to the person who hurt him as a child if he doesn't do as his cousin Frano wishes. In a way, Jagger is just as much as trapped as Rita so that made me feel for him. He is beyond messed up and none of it is his fault!
I'm also freaking the hell out at how this episode ended! Talk about a cliff hanger! I cannot wait for the second episode and for the rest of the season!!

I’ve read lots of sex trafficking/sex slave stories, many where one of the men is an undercover agent. I’ve never read one about a female agent though…
Rita is an FBI agent who willingly goes undercover as a sex slave to infiltrate the world’s biggest sex trafficking operation. It’s also personal as she wants her revenge against Frano D’Angelo, the mafioso who killed her husband.
Frano isn’t the only bad guy in this story. Once she is in captivity, Rita meets several guards and trainers including Frano’s brother and cousin. My point is, there is not just one bad guy in this story, and some of the men carry heavy baggage (secrets, abuse, trauma) of their own. Perhaps not all of the bad guys are who they seem to be???
Just as wonderfully dark, disturbing, twisted and entertaining as all of the other trafficking stories I’ve read, TAKEN is impeccably written and shockingly realistic. This is my first time reading anything by Hansen, so I was pleasantly surprised by the high caliber of quality! I am very much looking forward to reading the rest of this series!!!!

This was a pretty intense first episode.
And HOT!!
I felt a little guilty actually enjoying some of the scenes with Frano and Jagger.
I can't decide which one I like more.
Right now it's Jagger, because he's so damaged.
Rita Kovac is an FBI agent, who's undercover in order to take down a sex slave ring, run by the Mafia.
Her targets are Frano D'Angelo and the Black Russian.
She has her own agenda.
To kill the man who murdered her husband six months ago.
Frano is the man who destroyed her life but it seems like there's more to him.
Jagger is the man who trains the women they kidnap, to become sex slaves.
Something horrible happened to him when he was younger and I can't tell yet, if this man has a soul or is he just a monster.
Looking forward to episode two. :)

This was a quick, hot, interesting hostage read. I wish it was a full novel because I want more!!! That crazy cliffhanger, and over load of danger and intrigue left me breathless and anticipating episode two.

Now this was a flipping fantastic human-sex-trafficking erotica story!
I find myself being putt off by a great number of them around. They seem to glamorize the experience. Almost like just because we want our husbands/boyfriends to role-play kidnapping us, the idea of human trafficking is really cool and something to make look like a romance.
This story does not do that.
First, we don't have a push over lead female. She's walking right into the human traffickers trap with the full intention of being caught. Why you say? Oh, because she's undercover FBI.
Now, I'm gonna stop here. This is usually the part where I put on the movie Taken, or I want to call Liam Neesson for help. However, Rita is not a wilting violet. And I highly doubt our girl is gonna succumb to falling hopelessly in love with any of these men.
However, Marita threw me for a bit of a loop with Jagger--I am conflicted about him. I didn't want to be conflicted about the bad guys! I hate liking the one that is no doubt going to try and break our dear Rita in order send her off to the Black Russian--but wait--she wants to get herself to the Black Russian, he is the human trafficking king pin!
Oh yes, this story is one big huge mind f--- that takes off from the first page and doesn't let you go. I can honestly say that the reader sucked me into each character. Whether it is love, hate, and pure and utter loathing aka: Alberto. Yeah, lets all have a party to inspire Rita to cut his you know what off!
The story was strong, the characters in full vivid 3-D to the point I got so sucked into the story I didn't stop until I finished! Which if I was estimating it would have been about an hour total that it top me to suck up this first installment of of a FIFTEEN PART SEASON ONE! This is gonna be as bad as waiting for a new season of American Horror Story!

I hate liking the one that is no doubt going to try and break our dear Rita in order send her off to the Black Russian--but wait--she wants to get herself to the Black Russian, he is the human trafficking king pin!
Oh yes, this story is one big huge mind f--- that takes off from the first page and doesn't let you go. I can honestly say that the reader sucked me into each character. Whether it is love, hate, and pure and utter loathing aka: Alberto. Yeah, lets all have a party to inspire Rita to cut his you know what off!
The story was strong, the characters in full vivid 3-D to the point I got so sucked into the story I didn't stop until I finished! Which if I was estimating it would have been about an hour total that it top me to suck up this first installment of of a FIFTEEN PART SEASON ONE! This is gonna be as bad as waiting for a new season of American Horror Story!

This was a nice surprise...
4 Mafia Dark stars...
Going into reading this book... I had zero clue as to what the story was about or even the fact that it's been made into a mini series... I was captivated from beginning to end... and that was quite an ending...
We meet Rita... tough chick who's FBI going undercover to get Intel on a mafia crew who is kidnapping and trafficking women... not your usual damsel in distress... which makes is much more interesting... this mission is very personal to Rita because it's not only about putting away the bad guys... But it's also a means to get revenge to the killer of her husband...
But things don't always look the the way they actually are... and little by little Rita is realizing that there are important facts and information she wasn't aware of...
The ending had me checking my glasses to see if I was actually reading what was on my kindle... because that shocked the hell out of me... didn't see that one coming...
I can't wait for next episode... so glad we don't have to wait that long

Omg what have I just read. This is a pretty dark & disturbing book. If your looking for romance then skip this quick.
If your looking for a dark book that you really won't be able to guess what's happening next then this is the book for you. Throw in a sick minded priest, a family of rapists, bdsm and an FBI agent and you've got yourself a rollercoaster of a ride.
I got totally absorbed in this book.
Not sure I'm happy that this is going to be released in sections. I think I'd prefer to read the book as a whole. Having said that I don't regret reading it:)

Jagger, you're so bad and yet so broken....Just how I like'em. And Rita, you are one strong and feisty bitch. So glad to have found a book without the sniveling "whoa is me" heroine.
And what an ending. I am now praying the snow keeps falling and I end up with a snow day tomorrow.
