Now An Anime! In addition to her goblin friends, Nefertima has now succeeded in drawing the kobolds into Project Shiana! Accompanied by her older brother Ralfreed and Crown Prince Wilhelt, she next travels to Zigg Village, where an unusual number of monster sightings have been reported recently. The trio visits the beach where all of the sightings were said to take place, but when they finally encounter the monster in question, each of them sees something different?!
I like the premise of this series. I love the characters. There is a lot more going on in this story than the anime even touches upon. If you’re looking for nuance and politics and people’s deep, heartfelt feelings, then this is the version you should be experiencing. I just wish there was less padding.
Now, this could just be my bias. I find Neema’s internal monologue equivalent to a narrator wandering off in thought while reading a story. However, if you like her inner voice, you may enjoy her cutesy, live commentary on her life and her errant thoughts. For me, I felt compelled to aggressively skim.
I’m also troubled by so many lifeforms feeding off of a child. Living inside of her. Draining her feelings. Knowing that there are another THIRTEEN volumes in the series after this one makes me wonder if the endgame is her living in a hospital while her entire fluffy menagerie sucks her dry. I kid, but as a parent, if I had a toddler who had parasites living inside of her, I would not take that levelheadedly. You should’ve seen how I was when my daughter came home from elementary school 20 years ago with lice. It was all out war. I can imagine how I’d react if my daughter smiled at me and said, “Daddy! I have a family of slimes living in me! Aren’t they cute?!“
Nightmares of tapeworms dance in my head.
The story does have an interesting premise, so I enjoyed reading it. I felt that the narrative got out in the weeds here and there, so I judiciously skimmed. However, I do feel that it was lacking in substance overall. In essence, we were just on a trip to a set up a hot tub and eat food. If that’s your cup of tea, sip sip sip away. I’ll hold out hope that there is more to volume four to keep my interest.
I love this series, the characters are hysterical, and the plot line is very interesting. It’s a rich world that this artist has created. We need a glossary. Remind us of what all these animals are and these units of measurements they’ve come up with. The author does a good job of reminding you by converting it intoinches in feet which help us Americans, but much like this the character said, if you wanna really understand what you’re reading, you have to internalize it and that’s hard to do. But just like other art authors, who have created worlds, this artist is really made their very original. And it’s a joy to visit. I cannot wait till the next one.
Fluffy paradise part 2 is good, you get drawn into the story of the main character and get to see what it would be like to be able to have all kinds of animals be drawn to you through her.
