Thirteeen-year-old Sinela Chaudry refuses to enter an arranged marriage with Sameer, a mysterious, wealthy businessman in rural Pakistan. Her parents plead that he will murder their family if he can’t wed her. She must sacrifice and marry him. Unable to change their minds, Sinela, a bright ambitious student, maims herself, then threatens to take her own life. Fearful that she will carry out her threat, her parents agree to help her run away. She sets out on a harrowing journey across Pakistan, evading Sameer’s agents and acquiring friends. When her best friend Niya is murdered, Sinela devises a complex plan to use Niya’s passport to find freedom.
