While writing this review, I kept asking myself, how does Pamela Clare do it? How does she write book after amazing book, each one getting better than the one before? When I was sure she couldn’t possibly top Extreme Exposure, I read Hard Evidence and was blown away. Then, when I’m certain there’s no way she can beat Hard Evidence, I read Unlawful Contact and found myself literally sitting on the edge of my seat, unable to put it down, and staying up until the wee hours of the morning to finish it – yet not wanting it to end.

In one of the sweetest, sexiest prologues of any book I’ve ever read, Sophie Alton and Hunt spent one unforgettable night together, 12 years before this story begins, knowing it would probably be the last time they’d ever see each other. Hunt left the following morning to begin his stint in the Army and as the years wore on, Sophie went on to become an investigative reporter, ultimately ending up at the Denver Independent as a member of their elite I-Team. Even though they didn’t see each other again, didn’t stay in touch, they never forgot that one night they’d spent together, a night that was so much more than just physical attraction. What they had shared was true passion, an emotional connection between two lonely people that would never be forgotten.

As the book blurb tells us, our heroine, Sophie is investigating the disappearance of a young mother, Megan, who was recently paroled, and at a time when her life was finally taking a turn for the better, she inexplicably takes off with her daughter, Emily, and is running from the law. In her attempts to find Megan, Sophie is led to Marc Hunter, Megan’s brother, who is serving a life sentence for murdering a fellow DEA agent. But, as is often the case, things are not always as they appear and what once appeared to be a black and white, cut and dry conviction sentencing Marc Hunter to prison, now takes on shades of gray as we get a glimpse into a justice system tainted by a few corrupt and power hungry men. The story takes us on an exciting journey with Marc and Sophie who are chasing and being chased by the bad guys while trying to find out why Megan and Emily are on the run and reach them before it’s too late. There is plenty enough action, adventure, mystery, romance and sexual heat to keep this story moving quickly, yet easy to follow. I never lost interest and Unlawful Contact is yet another book by this author to be added to my “keepers” shelf.

I usually devote a good amount of time to character traits and development in my reviews, but I’m not going to do that this time, other than to say that once again these are not just names on the page rather, they are richly detailed and fully fleshed out people who we’d truly love to have as friends, neighbors, family members and lovers. Now, that said, Marc, I adore you and I want to have your babies. Yes, I had wanted to have Julian’s babies, too… but this time I mean it. You’re perfect for me. Tortured, hot, scarred, sexy, vulnerable, honorable, sexy – in short, you’re the perfect male, but you need a woman’s touch, my touch, so ditch that Sophie chick and come home with me. *sigh*

OK, where was I…? Oh, yes! So, I had asked the question, How does she do it? Well, the answer is that not only is Ms. Clare a bestselling author, she’s an investigative journalist and the “fictional” stories we read about in her books, aren’t quite as fictional as we might think. They are based on actual stories she broke or helped work on over the years at her “day” job working at the newspaper. This is where the realism and the attention to details that make her stories stand out come from—firsthand experience. And as I read these novels, I can tell that not only the characters, but their circumstances really matter to her. They don’t just start and end between the covers of the book. Here’s what I mean—

Ms. Clare, during her years as an investigative reporter, actually spent some time in a women’s jail to get a feel for what it was like behind bars. She became aware of the practice of shackling pregnant inmates to their beds during labor and childbirth and made it her personal mission to have a law passed which would put a halt to this practice. She spent three years trying to find a lawmaker who would take up the issue but no one seemed interested. In fact, some weren’t even aware this was being done. In January of 2010, she went to the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility to interview inmates who were either pregnant or who had recently given birth and the following month wrote up an article with new information and updated statistics.

Armed with the article and all the supporting data, she had a meeting with the Senate President who agreed to grant “late-bill” status to any bill dealing with this issue. Pamela then found a lawmaker who was willing to carry the bill. However, this lawmaker knew nothing about the issue, so she asked Ms. Clare to write the law, which she did, followed by weeks of hearings in the House and Senate in which she testified three times, with the bill finally passing in June, 2010 with only a single “no” vote.

Thanks to her efforts, pregnant women in Denver Correctional Facilities have been allowed a small bit of dignity in a very undignified existence. Some of the things which are covered in this bill are:
---No one in the state -- city police, county sheriffs, state prison authorities -- can shackle a pregnant inmate in labor or during birth.
---The new law also regulates how a pregnant inmate can be shackled throughout her pregnancy.
---And it makes sure she can have someone with her during her strip-search when she returns to prison (guards were hurting women).

My purpose in sharing this information is to point out how seriously Ms. Clare takes her job as a journalist and to show how much work and firsthand experience goes into her novels. Each book of this series is just as detailed and accurate, her information having come from hours upon hours of research and hands on investigation, which give a unique perspective and authenticity to her stories we don’t often find in fictional, romantic suspense novels. They are not just words on a page meant to sell books, she truly believes in what she writes about and that comes through in her stories. She consistently gives us characters to care about, laugh with, cry for and look forward to revisiting time and time again.

If you’re a fan of romantic suspense and haven’t yet tried Pamela Clare’s I-Team novels, I’d really encourage you to do so, and just as I did, you might just find you have a new favorite author to the genre.

The I-Team reading order, so far:

1. Extreme Exposure
1.5 Heaven Can't Wait - a novella found in the out of print anthology Catch of the Day and on ebook
2. Hard Evidence
3. Unlawful Contact
4. Naked Edge
5. Breaking Point
5.5. Skin Deep
5.9. First Strike
6. Striking Distance

This is my second book in the I-team series, and I enjoyed it, just not quite as much as I enjoyed book 5. It probably doesn't help that I'm reading them out of order. It was a fun and entertaining story, I just had too many issues to rate it higher than 3.5. I did love the second chance romance aspect of this installment, their connection was believable to me, and I love all of the characters in the series.

Pamela Clare can definitely write an outstanding alpha male, and it turns out sex with a fugitive who hasn't been with anyone for almost 7 years is very hot! The first time they were together was impressive, definitely the highlight of the book.

The problem for me, is that sometimes less is more when it comes to detailed sex scenes, and the first one was enough to carry most of the book, especially considering their situation. I think if I read this a couple of years ago, before reading one too many romance novels, I may not have noticed how cheesy the writing got in the second half.

I'm all for a scene like this.....

But, the cheesy quotes got so out of control, I was cracking up over them, there's just no way I can take this seriously,

"She exhaled in a shuddering cry, coming against his mouth in a gush of hot nectar, her body shaking with pleasure."

"He palmed her breasts, teased the rosy velvet of her nipples, drinking in the flood of warm honey that was her body's response."

"And she was burning, her skin now so sensitive that no matter where he touched her, his mouth felt like fire, a river of hot cream flowing between her legs."

"She did as he asked, exposing her soft inner thighs and the red gold curls of her muff, opening for him like an exotic tropical flower, rosy and sweet."

I have accepted that romance authors tend to write how wet and tight someone is, it can't be avoided. I just have to draw the line with gushing, creamy rivers and floods.

Having said that, I'm absolutely planning to read book 4 next! In spite of the cheese, it's still an entertaining series!

Thanks for the laughs, Ami!! :)

5+ Stars!!! - Also reviewed at: Lady Jayne's Reading Den

I’ve been trying to read Surrender by Pamela Clare, but Marc Hunter keeps telling me he wants his day in Court…so, here goes…I hope I can do him justice!!

THE PEOPLE OF ROMANCELANDIA v PAMELA CLARE [2010] SCRR 6996 (31 October 2010)

SUPREME COURT OF ROMANCELANDIA

UNLAWFUL CONTACT

Judgment of the Honourable Justice Isabith McHardup

Accused: Pamela Clare

Complainant: Lady Jayne

CHARGES:

Charge 1: Causing addiction to a book series through grippingly suspenseful, sensual, emotional, engaging, and thought-provoking writing.

Charge 2: Creating to-die-for heroes who steal hearts, and who induce immense longing for “Unlawful Contact” with said heroes.

Charge 3: Causing risk to personal safety by writing scenes which induce heart palpitations, breathlessness, sudden swooning, hot flashes and the melting of panties.

THE PLOT:

The plot upon which the charges are based are as follows. From the Unlawful Contact book blurb:

“Journalist Sophie Alton is investigating the disappearance of a young mother named Megan, recently paroled and now running from the law with her baby daughter. Sophie's search leads her to Megan's brother, Marc, a convicted killer--and the man she shared an unforgettable night with twelve years ago.

Condemned to life in prison, Marc uses Sophie to escape so he can find his sister and protect her from the monster who's pursuing her. Sophie knows she should fear Marc. But the heat and hunger of his touch still lingers in her mind--and on her body--after all this time.

Together they will follow a dangerous trail, as people on both sides of the law do everything they can to keep Sophie and Mark from finding Megan--and a shocking truth about the past...”

THE EVIDENCE:

CHARGE 1 - Causing addiction to a book series through grippingly suspenseful, sensual, emotional, engaging, and thought-provoking writing.

On 3rd October 2010, the complainant began reading the I-Team series, starting off with Extreme Exposure and then Hard Evidence.

On 14th October 2010, the complainant had intended to read one of her library books with the looming deadlines, next, but found she just “had to” read Unlawful Contact, the 3rd book in the series. “It’s like I just couldn’t stop!!” she testified. Her library books were, thus, neglected in lieu of Ms. Clare’s books and had to be returned… unread. Oh, the horror!!

Further, the complainant testified that she was frequently distracted from work because she had this insatiable “NEED to keep reading”. She was reading while waiting for her coffee, while eating, on the commute to and from work (even using her teeny mobile phone light as a reading light in the dark), while her husband was trying to speak to her - “Sorry, darling, did you say something?”, eyes never straying from the page – every opportunity to read was taken!

It is quite clear from the content of complainant’s testimony, as well as the shocking constant SQUEE-ing, gushing, sighing, fanning self, incoherent mumbling, and inconvenient swooning (such that this Court had to recess several times…Hmph!), that the complainant has a VERY bad case of addiction.

Further, I, Justice Isabith McHardup, read this book in order to give it proper consideration, and can provide corroboration of its addictive nature. I’ve picked up the rest of the series!

I was also impressed upon finding out that the author was instrumental in the legislative amendments prohibiting the shackling of inmates during labour and childbirth, which was part of the subject of this book. Ms. Clare is to be commended for her work!

For an excellent review which details Ms. Clare’s efforts in getting the “Anti-Shackling Bill” passed, please refer to UniquelyMoi *~*Dhestiny*~*'s review (link below):

CHARGE 2 - Creating to-die-for heroes who steal hearts, and who induce immense longing for “Unlawful Contact” with said heroes.

The complainant testified to constantly daydreaming of Reece Sheridan, Julian Darcangelo, and now, Marc Hunter, who she stated could perhaps be her FAVOURITE I-Team hero yet, while whispering, “But please don’t tell Reece!! …Or Julian.”

The complainant described Marc Hunter (a.k.a Hunt) as being six foot three, athletic, broad shouldered and OH-SO-well built. He has wavy thick brown hair, high cheekbones, a square jaw, full kissable lips and deep green eyes. “Doesn’t that description just make you swoon?” stated the complainant.

The complainant testified: “Marc Hunter is so tortured, protective, HOT, loyal, sexy, anguished, sweet, SO HAWT, and honourable. He would do anything for the people he loves. I just LOVE him!!! *sighs* And every time he called Sophie his “fairy sprite”, my heart just melted. I loved the sweetness of their first time together. I want to have “Unlawful Contact” with Hunt!!! He is worth 5 + Stars!!!

The Prosecution presented the following images of Marc Hunter into evidence. He bears a striking resemblance to the delectably gorgeous Eduardo Verastegui.

CHARGE 3 - Risk to personal safety by writing scenes which induce heart palpitations, breathlessness, sudden swooning, hot flashes and the melting of panties.

The prosecution presented several exhibits as evidence in support of this charge.

EXHIBIT A: The little black dress ~ Every woman needs one. And a man like Marc Hunter to truly…appreciate … it! *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

EXHIBIT B: The fireplace ~ The location of an ohhh soooo…delicious…scene. *bursts into flames * - Definite panty melting here.

EXHIBIT C: The gray angora sweater ~ Who knew it could be so sexy? Especially against some wood. *wiggles eyebrows*

EXHIBIT D: The sexy “man-titties”! ~ Who could possibly resist this ex-soldier boy’s? *RAWR!!!*

EXHIBIT E: The Ray Bans ~ Even as a man on the run, Marc Hunter ROCKS it!!

EXHIBIT F: Mmmm …. Mmmm ….Mmmmmm … *THUD!* With this, the Prosecution rested its case. ^_^

VERDICT:

On all charges, I find the accused, GUILTY AS CHARGED! ^_^

SENTENCE:

Ms. Pamela Clare is sentenced to write more amazing stories, FOR LIFE, so that those addicted will not suffer unbearably. I trust that Ms. Clare realises that there will be no appealing this sentence. *wink* ^_~

In light of the serious state of the complainant’s addiction, this Court is recommending a mandatory treatment of MORE Pamela Clare books! When supply of said books run out, re-reads may be necessary.

In case this “judgment” has not made it clear, UNLAWFUL CONTACT AND THE ENTIRE I-TEAM SERIES IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! READ. IT. NOW!

And if you don’t take heed, Marc Hunter will be coming for YOU!!!

NOTES:
1. “SCRR” in the judgment title stands for “Supreme Court of Romancelandia Reports”.
2. “6996” which represents the page number in the Court report (It's a thick volume! LOL) is the date of a very special night for Hunt and Sophie – June 9, 1996.

DISCLAIMER - Every effort has been made to make this review as fun and encouraging as possible. Thus, liberties have been taken with the format of the “judgment” and this does not accurately represent a real life Court judgment. ^_^

Jgajfakljgdkjfdskhgahfksafhkdfj OMG I loved this book!!! :D Granted, it was a re-read and an all-time favorite so I was guaranteed to love it (again) but who cares? Not only did this story have my full attention from start to finish, but it also made me stay up late ‘till the wee hours of the morning to read ‘just one more chapter’ and then proceeded to sucker punch me with emotions. Just when I thought I couldn’t find a single book to deliver an emotionally satisfying yet believable romance, this one does (again!!). THIS here is why I love to read. On its own the book is amazing and may even reel in newbies to the romantic suspense genre but within the I-team series? It’s simply outstanding! While I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in this series, this 3rd book far surpasses them in both the suspense and romance aspects. Gahh!! I LOVED IT!!

There were two main things that made this book stand out to me – one: unlike the first two books where the investigative topics (environment & sex trafficking) were well-researched additions to their stories yet lacking an emotional impact to tie in with the romance the topic explored in this book (prison/correctional facility quality) was an aspect that overwhelmed me with feels, mainly because throughout the course of the book, both the heroine and hero have personal experiences that tie in with this topic and in turn, makes me feel their suffering and pain, especially the hero Marc Hunter.

description

This man...gosh, where to start? He’s a convicted murderer sentenced to life without parole but he also happens to be one of the BEST heroes I’ve ever read about. Knowing that life for him is pretty much over, he breaks out of prison through a hostage situation to find and save his missing sister and baby niece. Everything he’s done is for his remaining family. This was a kid with a dream, and a man who tried to achieve his goals and shot for the stars but missed. Nothing about his circumstances that lead up to him landing in prison is black and white, and despite experiencing so much bad, he still is this honorable man who knows the difference between what’s right and wrong. I know I always say that this author creates the most honorable heroes but it’s the truth :)

The heroine Sophie was someone I liked from the start. While Marc’s a new character, Sophie isn’t, and the times I saw her in the first two books made me curious about her. Somehow she manages to be aloof and laidback at the same time, and she’s sort of a mix of Kara’s (book 1) and Tessa’s (book 2) personalities. She’s definitely strong and gutsy but also is one of the most compassionately sweet heroines I’ve read. And she was the perfect match for Marc.

The other thing that made this book stand out was the romance – Marc and Sophie had a history together before present day where shit hit the fan. Second chance romances are my weakness and nine times out of ten I’ll love the couple in question just because of this one reason. The history Marc and Sophie shared was one full of purity and innocence, secret dreams and hopes they both clung to throughout the years. What I especially loved was that their history had no strings attached: both of them honestly never thought they’d see each other again which made their short time together that much more memorable.

description

So when they do meet in one of the most unexpected ways – Sophie a hostage, Marc the escaped prisoner who threatens her – ugly words are exchanged, feelings are hurt, precious memories are tainted, and of course, sparks fly. Even though there was a clear attraction simmering between them, I loved that neither of them pushed it. This is a major bonus of reading romances that focus on adult characters: they make mature decisions where even though I’ve never been in their shoes, I can still relate and just feel the realism given their tense situation. I especially felt a ton of feelings when Marc brokenly told his prison experiences – this isn’t my first time re-reading this book but somehow I always tear up at these scenes. It also never ceases to amaze me just how well-researched and in-depth this author’s stories are, especially this book. It’s a common saying that authors pour their heart and soul into their stories but Pamela Clare goes far beyond that. I can feel the love and passion she has for each and every investigative topic the heroines write about – some more personal than others – and just in general, her love for journalism itself.

When I read this book for the very first time I remember thinking to myself, how does she do it? How does she continue to top each book she’s written? Now 3 years later and all her books under my belt my first observation is that Pamela Clare is one of the very, very few authors who consistently delivers well-developed, gripping stories in both romantic suspense and historical romance. I seriously can’t recommend this author and her books enough!

Unlawful Contact is the third book in the I-Team series and can be read as a standalone. I would recommend reading in order though because this entire series is great!

5+++ Stars!!! Again, and again, and again!!

I've read this book in paperback and ebook, many times, and now I listened to it on audio!! Crazy good!

Most of my friends have read this, so let's reminisce about my favorite scene, no real review here, just me having fun.

Remember the part where Marc "re-connects" with Sophie and he says...
"It was like falling dick first into paradise"
and then he picks her up off the floor...still connected mind you...and they crash their way into the bedroom and then keep at it?!?! I LOVE THAT SCENE!! It was good when I first read it and now imagine some guy reading this to you in a deep, breathy, sultry, sexy voice! HELP ME!! I'm ready to explode!! Someone throw some ice water on me!! I keep hitting re-play and I'm panting! It's as if Marc is talking to me himself. I WISH!! I'm changing my name to Sophie.

Kaleo Griffith really nailed the guys in this series!! He didn't actually "nail" them, but you know what I mean. He's got one helluva voice...SMOOTH!

Bottom line, Unlawful Contact is my favorite in the series, because Marc Hunter is my favorite I-Team hero. Thank you Dorsey for telling me how good the audio version was...IT ROCKS!! It's like I'm experiencing the book for the first time!! Now off to hit re-play so I can experience it again, and again, and again!! I'm stuck in a loop!!

My Marc Hunter! *dreamy sigh*

5+++ STARS!!!!

Check out my review/fantasy cast on Under the Covers

Dear Julian,
I love you, I love you, I love you. ..But I may love Marc Hunter more.
His piercing green-eyed stare, that killer sense of humor and the fact that he knows how to handle a gun may just trump that sucky-swirly thing you do with your tongue.
I’m sorry. Please don’t kill me.
Love,
Ann

Oh my god! So I’ve just finished Unlawful Contact minutes ago and I’m still recovering.

Okay, but in all seriousness, Pamela Clare has gone above and beyond any expectations I had for this book! Each new instalment in the I-Teams series is better than the first and I know I said I wanted Julian’s babies in my last review, but I am considering having Marc’s now. Hunt just has that affect on my ovaries. Can you blame a girl?

Marc Hunter has lived through hell. He lost six years of his life, rotting away behind bars for a crime he would without a doubt commit again. With his lethal good looks and his deadly charm, Marc is a force to be reckoned with. Ms. Clare writes the most amazing heroes in her novels but I think Hunter tops them all. There are so many facets to his personality. One of the best things I loved about him was the fact that he had honor. Even with his status as a convicted murderer, he still had a sense of right and wrong that I respected a lot. Furthermore, I loved his sense of hope and his live-in-the-moment attitude. In the bleakest of times, he doesn’t become brooding and tortures himself over things he has no control of. Instead, he makes the best of what he has and never forgets the gift of the present he is living in.

And then there’s Sophie Alton who has become my favourite heroine of this entire series! I adored her from the get-go and loved her faith in Hunt. The prologue was so brilliantly crafted that I knew I would be in trouble because I fell so hard for both these characters. Out of the I-Team, Sophie was pretty laid back. But in the spotlight, in her own book, I thought she shined. She was so strong and courageous. What both Hunt and Sophie experience in this book, is both gut-wrenching and heartfelt because even during the toughest of times, they find salvation within each other.

Their love for one another was so believable and potent that ...I’ll admit it, I cried a lot during this book! This book has officially become one of my all-time favourites because I will never be the same after reading this. Unlawful Contact tore me to pieces and as corny as it sounds, I will always remember this.
Now, here’s the hard part....finding a book to read after this because nothing will stand up to the masterpiece that this book is. Nothing.

Favourite Quote:
“Well, okay, then.” He leaned back, crossed his arms over his chest, and grinned. “But when you ‘Pistol Pants’ were you referring to my firearm – or my gun?”

Meet Marc "Hunt" Hunter:

The resident bad boy who everyone knows will end up in jail, Hunt believes Sophie to be the prettiest girl in school, but never approaches her because he thinks there's not way he stands a chance with someone as sweet and smart as her. He secretly dreams of becoming an astronaut but joins the army instead.

Meet Sophie Alton:

After her parents' death, Sophie comes to live with her grandmother and dreams of becoming a reporter. In her new town, the straight-A nerd covertly crushes on the school hottie but knows there's no way he'd be interested in her when he could easily have any of the gorgeous, curvy seniors who constantly flock him.

After an unplanned night of passion neither has forgotten, they meet again after twelve years. Sophie's a very successful reporter and Hunt is, as predicted, in prison. Hunt escapes from prison with Sophie and both try, separately at first and then together, to find Hunt's runaway sister and niece.
“You know what kept me warm at night?” He leaned in closer, brushed a strand of hair from the satin of her cheek. “I kept thinking about this beautiful girl from my hometown. I only spent one night with her—just one night—but it was the sweetest night of my life. She gave me her virginity and told me to shoot for the stars. I tried, Sophie. I tried to shoot for the stars.”

I liked Sophie and Hunt's story from the very beginning. I'm a sucker for childhood romances that develop into so much more as the couple grows older, and this particular teenage love story is no exception. The chemistry and connection between Hunt and Sophie is evident from the get-go and I'm surprised at how well Clare portrayed the otherwise clichéd romance between the troublemaker and the geek.
Don’t let go of her, Hunt. Don’t let go of Sophie. Don’t let her out of your life.
If only he’d done that one thing…

My heart always melted whenever Marc was unexpectedly gentle with Sophie. I loved how their relationship was clearly built on so much more than just lust - there was also respect, care, honesty, understanding, and most of all, excellent communication between the two. Their relationship represents love at its best and it was thoroughly engrossing watching it develop from a teenage crush to an obsession to unadulterated lust to the point where Sophie helped Marc heal and get over his traumatic past.

Sophie was a great heroine, and I couldn't sum up her personality better than Marc:
“You’re the smartest, bravest, most wonderful, most beautiful, most precious woman I’ve ever known, Sophie Alton. When I’m gone, remember that.”

Nonetheless, the one character that really made me fall in love with this book and give it a 5-star rating is Marc. He's one of the sweetest, most loving and caring men I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. It's so unfair what happened to him and how much he had to endure , and I've never been as happy to read a HEA ending as I did his. He so deserved it.
“No happy endings?”
“For you, I hope one day. Not for us. Not for me.”

On a side note, I admit I rarely read through the entire acknowledgements, but I always make it a point to read the dedications. It generally gives me a glimpse into the author's life and sets my impression of the book. And while I've read quite a lot of dedications over the years, none of them have touched me as profoundly as Clare's, and this one was one of the most bittersweet of the lot:
This book is dedicated to the memory of Leah Rhiann Clifton, who died in her mother’s womb in a prison cell.

5 stars – Romantic Suspense

This is another intense, gripping, smokin’ hot read in Pamela Clare’s intelligent, thrilling, and steamy I-Team romantic suspense series about a group of investigative reporters who put their hearts and lives on the line for the sake of uncovering the truth and seeking justice.

Investigative journalist Sophie Alton is trying to find answers about the disappearance of a young mother with a history of drug abuse, Megan Rawlings, who escaped a halfway house with her baby daughter under suspicious circumstances. The case leads her to interview Megan’s brother, Marc Hunter, who is serving a life sentence in maximum prison for murder, but her search for the truth turns dangerous when Marc takes Sophie hostage in a desperate attempt to escape in order to find and help his sister.

Things get even riskier and more complicated when Sophie realizes that Marc is “Hunt”, the bad boy she shared an unforgettable, romantic night with twelve years ago, and hasn’t been able to stop thinking about since. Marc has spent the past six years serving hard time in prison, which is where most people expected him to end up, except for the one person who saw more to him than just the town bad boy. Marc has never forgotten the beautiful, sweet girl who gave him her virginity on a magical night twelve years before, and now they’re thrust together once again on a frantic search for his sister. The attraction and connection between Marc and Sophie is as intense and volatile as ever, but his past puts their love in peril and threatens to tear them apart, once again.

Marc “Hunt” Hunter is such a sexy, loving, protective, emotionally anguished and tortured hero that you can’t help but fall hard for him, just like Sophie, and I wanted so much for them to get their HEA. The suspense is full of explosive action, surprising twists, and shocking conspiracies, the romance is heartbreaking and emotional, and the sex is scorching HOT, bordering on erotic. I also loved the beautiful, emotional, sweet prologue and the touching epilogue was icing on the already scrumptious cake! I highly recommend this for fans of romantic suspense with lots of heat! 5 stars!

I liked this. The suspense was good, kept me glued to the pages at times. I liked the premise as well, old lovers reuniting against all odds. But the book started out slow for me and didn't pick up at least until 30% in. Although the writing was good, I found some of the terms the author used turn-offish. For example, she used 'muff' to describe a woman's nether regions---that just made me think of earmuffs and that wasn't a visual I liked being in my head. Then, 'man berries' for a guy? Uh, no. Just, no. I think of shrivelled blueberries*shudders*.
The funny thing is, my favourite part of this book was Julian! I've never read this authors previous work and this is the first book in this series I've read, but damn! I'm going to read book 2 because of the dark and sexy Julian. He made this book for me, and he wasn't even the main character. Anyways, I liked this, didn't love it, but I sure as hell loved Julian.
Thanks for the rec, Nadine :))

Overall Opinion: This was an enjoyable read. It felt a little dated because it had some terms that were older, but it wasn't so bad that I felt distracted by it . It did have modern technology like cell phones, internet, etc., so it made me think that it was just the author's writing style. I enjoyed the characters, the suspense, the heat...but something felt a little missing. I guess I wanted more of a balance between the romance and the suspense. I know I struggle with this balance for most of the suspenseful romance books I read -- so it very well could be a "just me" thing. But hey! I finally was satisfied with the ending!! Great epilogue that answered all my questions and didn't leave me hanging for more -- so there is that 🤗

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Sophie and Marc's story. They have a hot night together when Marc graduates high school, but he has to leave the next day to go into the army. Many years later, they are reunited when Sophie is following a lead as a journalist about a missing woman and her baby. Marc is in prison and uses Sophie to escape and try to find his sister and niece. There are some big secrets revealed, some sexy times, some sad moments, and some suspenseful scenes...and they get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between focusing mainly on Sophie and Marc in 3rd person narrative, but does have some parts focusing on other characters.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: Kind of. They had a deep encounter in the past that they built their feelings on, and with extreme circumstances their feelings do develop pretty quickly.

H rating: 3.5 stars. Marc. I liked him, but I did want him to be more open with the h at times.

h rating: 4 stars. Sophie. I liked her. I appreciated how she fought for what was right and cared about others.

Sadness level: Low/moderate. I teared up a few times, but never needed any tissues.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: No

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had good closure with a cute epilogue. I have no problems calling this a HEA ending!

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

Reporter Sophie Alton was looking into the plight of young women in prison and Megan Rawlings captured her attention and continued interest. When Megan suddenly disappears along with her baby, Sophie arranges to interview her brother, Marc Hunter, who is serving a life sentence for murder. What happens at that prison alters the course of both of their lives as well as Megan's.

Thus story never let up and, despite the tension and suspense, managed to develop a compelling romance. While Sophie makes a few curious decisions, I found it extremely interesting and exciting. I really liked Marc and appreciated how he was both noble and flawed at the same time. The story didn't take easy paths and wasn't predictable.

I was already a fan of Kaleo Griffith and his narration was absolutely wonderful! I've switched to the audio format for the rest of the series because of him.

This is my favorite in the series to date. 4.5 stars

Marc Hunter is serving life in prison without parole....convicted of murdering a fellow DEA officer in cold blood to supposedly cover up his own drug use. He lives day to day trying to survive life behind bars...trying to stay alive. He has, after all, put some of these inmates behind bars himself. He dreams of the one girl he had for a night...a special night back when he was a troubled teen. And her name was Sophie. One night under the stars. She gave him her virginity. He gave her his heart...

Sophie is an Investigative Reporter. She has grown attached to a young recovering drug addict who suddenly disappears from her halfway house. Megan was so close to getting her baby back. She has to find her. She has one living relative, a brother named Marc who's serving life in prison. She will see if he knows where she is hiding out. Little did she know Marc is "Hunt," her first, the guy who left the next day for the Army....who is now behind bars for murder. She can sure pick them.

That's all you get. The book is a romantic suspense. It has a fair amount of heat but it takes over halfway through to get steamy. I was getting a bit exasperated with that to be honest. It's a page-turner and not short by any means. The reader is left trying to figure out why Megan, the young mom who ran, disappeared and why she's on the run...from WHO she's running. Can they find her before the perps do?

"Hunt" and Sophie have that first-love connection that never seemed to fade. It's endearing and I found myself praying for some semblance of a HEA. This is my first book in the I-Team series and I really liked it.

And I thank you...

What a fantastic romantic suspense! I enjoyed this book so much, I didn't want it to end, yet I desperately wanted to see how it played out! I was not disappointed in the least about anything in this story. It had a smart, beautiful heroine; a sexy, courageous, selfless hero; a taut, exciting plot, and wonderful characterizations throughout. Add a sexy, beautiful love story, a couple of big surprises leading up to an explosive ending, and a touching epilogue, and what more could you want? This is definitely a keeper--one of the best books I've read this year!

1.5/5; 2 stars; C

What a disappointing book. After reading the first two, strong and entertaining books in the series I was taken aback by how bad this one is.
Before getting to the review I have to say one really positive thing about this author and her research for the I-team books. On her website she has a riveting account of her 'incarceration' as a felon which she undertook as part of her research and to learn more about the issues in the Colorado prison system. She has a particular interest in conditions that female inmates deal with. The article is eye opening and unsettling. That aspect of this book felt very real. Go check it out.

On to the review:

There was so much outright stupidity in this book that I just couldn't buy into either Marc or Sophie's characters.
1) Marc did something incomprehensible.
2. Marc did another unbelievable thing.
3. Sophie threw away her birth control pills.
4. The author spent two books developing the Chief Irving character as solid and trustworthy but Sophie disregarded him as a resource.
5. The author spent a whole book developing Julian as a solid gold cop but did Sophie even consider asking him for help?
6. The end...sucked. .

The first two books in the series were good and the last two very good;this one was an anomaly.

Unlawful Contact is another example of Pamela's Clare's ability to write top notch romantic suspense that satisfies both the heavy-duty romance fan who wants a true love story and the analytical reader who looks for realism in her fiction. In this case, her story is about Sophie and Marc aka Hunt, who met in high school, parted for twelve years, and came back together in a very explosive fashion.

Incidentally, I couldn't help but think about Arrested Development as I read this, since that is a very hilarious recurring joke on the show since Bluth Sr. is in prison.

There's a scene near the end of the book where I laughed out loud because it was such a reminder of this.

Okay, back on point!

I can't say I'm a fan of underage sex, fuddy duddy that I am. However, I think that Pamela Clare made their teenage encounter very romantic, and I felt the lasting and powerful bond they formed and why it was so meaningful. I'm glad she did show this, because it makes their later interactions and relationship have an added depth.

Sophie is both a sweet, caring person, but also tough and incisive as a character. Clare shows the integrity that journalists have and seem to largely lack in the public image we get from the media. I am glad that I had friends who strongly recommended that I read Extreme Exposure despite my dislike of journalists and politicians because Clare has caused me to re-evaluate my negative closed-mindedness of journalists by showing what they do, how seriously they take it, and how many sacrifices and risks that are involved in making sure that the news is fairly reported. I can't say I view the news media favorably over all still, but I am sure there are plenty of true believers with integrity in the industry.

Certainly, I've not walked Sophie's life journey, but I felt like I grew to know her and love her with each page I read. I can see why Hunt never forgot her or got over her. I can understand her willingness to trust and believe in Marc, and her determination to help him, even though she was torn after he kidnapped her.

As for Hunt, Oh my!!! I loved him. He is very tortured and his life pretty much sucked. It's sad to say that the best years of his life were when he was a military sniper in Afghanistan, and the short night he spent with Sophie. The burden of guilt he carried made me want to cry for him. Even though he is shown in a violent way early in the book, I knew that wasn't truly who he was. I knew that while prison turns many people into the basic, most animalistic parts of their natures, Marc managed to maintain that core of dignity despite six hard, hellish years inside. I loved him for that. I am afraid of prison, let's be honest. (Only my sister is more afraid of prison, which is strange since we are fairly upstanding citizens). I can't imagine how horrible it would be to have a life sentence, especially as ex-law enforcement. The reveal near the end made my jaw drop, that Marc would be willing to do that! Of course, I already adored him, but my adoration quotient when up even more.

The storyline was intense and really disturbing that such an injustice would occur and would go on so long. I was freaking angry about it. I did a huge amount of yelling at the book near the end. My sister's cat was looking at me like I was crazy, in fact. I wanted blood. I could see why Marc was willing to take the risk to break out of jail. I couldn't blame him. Let me just say, a girl couldn't have a better older brother!

Ms. Clare captures the reality of the wrongs that are inherent in a man-made system of justice. It breaks my heart to know that women/girls can be abused in such a way by people in the system. I'm not much of an Old Testament justice kinda girl, but I really wanted to see these guys get sentenced to castration for what they did!

The love scenes were hot, hot, hot, and I do mean hot. I love that Clare can write such hot love scenes without going over the line into kinky/ick factor. You could see that poor Marc was 1)making up for lost time (since he was celibate 7 years), 2)taking the opportunity to get his true girl, 3)living a short amount of life he could before they put him back into the pen. The love scenes showed the intensity of the feelings between Marc and Sophie and cemented my feeling that they had loved each other for that long time apart, even if it was an embryonic sort of love. It touched my romantic soul. That's a good thing.

I read this book slowly and savored it. I have gotten into a bad habit of reading fast because of deadlines, and I appreciated the opportunity of allowing a book to sink in and to digest the words, allow the scenes in the book to play on the movie screen of my head. This was a great book to do that with.

Excellent from beginning to end. Each book in the I-Team series tops the preceding, which is something! I definitely recommend it to romantic suspense fans and fans of misunderstood/bad reputation but true blue heroes and heroines who are truly likable.

I've been in the mood for romantic suspense lately, so I looked up some lists and this was at the top of "best romance suspense novels." I listened to the audio and I don't feel like this book has aged well since 2008. It definitely felt like it was 12 years old. Nothing in the story was actually that dated, but it just felt like a story from the 2000s, if that makes sense.

I really enjoyed the beginning and how Marc takes Sophie hostage so that he can escape jail and find his sister. Unfortunately, I did think this book went on a little too long and I was NOT a fan of Sophie's decision to do something without Marc's consent that was going to seriously affect his life in the future. He was mad when he found out, but I feel like he got over it way too quickly and Sophie never really understood that what she was doing was so wrong.

I thought it was fun that this was a second chance romance and that Sophie is now a reporter and she finds herself entangled in Marc's family struggles and his time in jail. There was definitely suspense in here, but I do wish we got some more of the side characters. I really enjoyed Julian, but Sophie never leaned on him for support, even though she knew he was one of the few people she could trust who could actually help her. Overall, this was a fun romantic suspense, but I got frustrated with our main characters.

Opening Line: “Sophie Alton walked through the party, wishing she’d stayed home.”

Well another great addition from the I-Team series, it seems that Pamela Clare can do no wrong. And holy hell with the heroes, just when I think she’s written my absolute favourite out pops another keeper from the recesses of Clare’s enviable mind. Where does she keep all these guys anyway? Each one is yummier than the last. How does she get anything done with all that awesome manliness living in her head?

Unlawful Contact was unputdownable from the very first pages, just excellent romantic suspense that never dumbs down the reader. Actually I think that’s what I appreciate most (besides the smoking hot love scenes) the fact that Clare writes a story with relatable, real characters that you believe in faults and all.

Clare also manages to hit all my (secret) fantasy buttons with this story. We have “getting taken hostage by the hero” (yum) The “man behind bars, good guy felon” scenario, the always exciting and sexy “couple on the run” and a sweet reunited lovers theme to tie it all together. Which is not so much a fantasy but a favourite theme of mine.

Book 3 from the I-Team series centres around investigative journalist Sophia Alton and convicted killer (serving life) Marc Hunter. Even the set up for this is fantastic; I mean how the hell are you going to get an imprisoned murderer and the heroine together? Ha, well it’s just excellently done.

With so many other amazing reviews out there, I’m not going to get into a synopsis I’ll just say that this is a sweet, sexy, fast paced story that honestly had me wondering how these two were ever going to get their HEA. As with all of Clare’s work there is some realistic and horrific content but she manages to balance it with lighter moments that made me smile and sigh… Speaking of which Marc Hunter, what an excellent hero, placed in an impossible situation I appreciated how he wasn’t left unscathed from his time behind bars. Traumatized, suffering flashbacks and physically scared from his 6 years in prison, that didn’t just go away. And I also loved his relationship with Julian. Of course they’d be buds albeit unwillingly, can’t wait to see how that relationship develops. Cheers

#TROMBIAMOALWAYSTANTO L'ERGASTOLOPUOASPETTARE
Tutto a posto abbiamo scherzato, siete tutti liberi e contenti!!!!
#FATE COME CAXXO VE PARE EH

4--Suspenseful--Stars!!

I only dabble in romantic suspense, but I have to admit this was one of the better reads.

NOTE: This is the first book I have read in the series....and while I didn't get the other characters back stories, I don't feel like I was missing out on anything. So if you are hesitant to read this book for that reason, I feel like it can be read as a standalone.

Sophie and Hunt first met when they were in high school. Sophie a shy, quiet "nerd" and Hunt the troubled, bad boy. Sophie gives Hunt her virginity and the following morning he leaves for the Army.

Sophie was the one that got away for Hunt. He tries to make something of himself and does a good job of it, until Hunt finds himself in a bit of a pickle.

Fast forward twelve years, Sophie is now an ivestigative journalist. She's reports on a lot of the prison activities and in the process Sophie grew close to a former inmate named Megan. Megan has gone missing with her baby, Emily.

Gone.

While interviewing the victim's half-brother, Sophie is taken hostage and is now on the run. The man that has taken her hostage is none other than Hunt, aka Marc Hunter. And Hunt is on a mission to find and save his sister and her baby.

Old feelings between Hunt and Sophie rise to the surface. And by old feelings I mean this kind of old feelings...

And now it's a game of cat and mouse. What caused Megan to go on the run with her baby? Will Sophie and Hunt find Megan and Emily before it's too late? Frankly, I was beginning to wonder if Megan and Emily would ever be found.

Who done it?

I sure wasn't expecting that guy to be involved.

Why is Sophie now a target? Why was Hunt in prison to begin with? What is he hiding?

This is a romantic suspense people! I'm not telling you!

LOVED IT!!!! At first I did not think this book was as good as Hard Evidence and then BAM, the story took off full speed, grabbed me and hooked me big time. Marc and Sophie where fantastic character's. I just loved how much they wanted to protect each other from harm. Especially Marc, he was so caring, protecting and loving to Sophie and his sister Megan. There was plenty of action happening to keep this book very interesting I kept reading because I just had to know how things would play out. I cried several times but in the end it was such a HEA for everyone that I had goose bumps on my body. Of course the heat was very good and not rushed at all. I think the waiting for it made it all that much hotter.
I will be continuing this series soon.

What? A man BEGGING you to help him get off after 7 years of no sexual contact isn't turning you on?? Well let me tell you...IT.WAS.HOT Man oh Man! What a Man!!

In my opinion Pamela Clare´s books can stay in your head and heart long after the last page is turned and this book is no exception. Her writing is so clear, full of details that pulls you into the story and makes you savor every moment you will spend with Marc and Sophie. I loved reading this book,it is utterly engrossing and has so many wonderful moments between the main characters. From heartwarming and tender to steamy and sexy,as well as fantastic suspense, mystery, and drama.

I´ve said this before, but every book it reaffirms that her writing lets you truly understand the characters and their motivation and brings them to life. She creates some of the most memorable characters I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and Hunt was no exception.
We had the pleasure of seeing a little bit of Julian from the previous book and it was a joy to spend some time with him.

The rest of the girls from the I-team should be wary. Apparently working there can lead to kidnapping, stalking, get shot at, attempts at being raped, some jail time and last but not least; meeting your soul-mate and have earthshaking orgasms every night for the rest of your life. OH and making cute babies too.

5++ Stars Romantic Suspense - my favorite in the series so far

I don’t know how she does it but Ms. Clare rocks my world every time with her delectable characters and engrossing storyline. I’ve never experienced a dull moment nor encountered a scene which I had wished would have gone differently since I started on the I-Team series. Its a testament to Ms. Clare’s creativity and talent that each of these stories have wormed their way into my heart, never to be forgotten, to be revisited sometime in the near future. With only one more book from the I-Team series left for me to read, it’s going to be an unbearable wait till July next year when Breaking Point featuring the mouthwatering Jed Hill on its cover comes out.

Marc Hunter or Hunt as he is called by Sophie is a convicted killer serving out his life sentence without eligibility for parole in the Colorado State Penitentiary. Broad shouldered with thick brown hair and deep green eyes, Marc comes from a broken home with a mother who had been a drug addict which had led him to growing up within one foster home or the other. The social service workers had come to take him and his younger half sister Megan away when Marc had just been 10 years old. And to this day, the image of little Megan crying and reluctant to leave her home drives home the guilt that he should have been a better protector for Megan. Marc had managed to clean up his act enough to get a place in the army where he had spent six years of his life becoming a decorated Special Operations sniper and served 18 months in Afghanistan before coming back to Colorado. Seeing that Megan had turned into a drug addict just like their mother cuts Marc up deeper than anything else and he tries to do the right thing by helping her overcome her addiction. With a job at the DEA doing what he can to rid the streets of the drugs that had ruined his family, the life he had created for himself comes crashing down on the afternoon of August 12, 2001. When the walls of the prison closes around him, life becomes undoubtedly that much harder for Marc as the guards hate his guts because he had killed a federal officer whilst the inmates are out for his blood especially those he had helped put behind bars during his time at the DEA. The only thing that keeps him going through the six years in prison is reliving the sweet memory of Sophie or his fairy sprite, the girl who had offered him her virginity on the night he was to leave for the army giving him the most precious and happiest hours of his life.

Sophie Alton had just been 16 years old with a massive crush on Hunt when all her dreams had come true on the night June 9, 1996. Sophie and her brother David had had to move down to Grand Junction, Colorado to live with their maternal grandmother when Sophie’s loving parents had been killed by a drunk driver whilst crossing a road in Denver. With strawberry blond hair, creamy skin and deep blue eyes, Sophie has big dreams of making it as a journalist when Hunt gives her the most unforgettable night of her life beneath the open sky. Though Sophie had dated sparsely throughout the years, every other man pales in comparison to Hunt. 12 years on, Sophie does the prison beat for the Denver Independent’s elite I-team. With her brother David studying to be a horse vet, Sophie saves every penny she can so that she can help David along to achieve his dreams.

Storyline: Sophie had been covering Megan Rawlings, an inmates journey through pregnancy and motherhood for the past couple of months ever since she had covered a piece on the stillbirth of an inmate’s baby which had in turn spurred her on to look more closely into the plight of female prison inmates. Megan had spent 18 hours in labor pains to deliver beautiful baby girl Emily only to give her up to the Social Services. On the day that Megan had earned a 2 hour visit with Emily which Sophie was covering, Megan disappears with Emily in tow leaving a large amount of drugs in her room, a testament to the fact that Megan had once again succumbed back to her addiction which Sophie had been so happy to see that Megan had been overcoming slowly. Since Sophie had grown pretty close to Megan during the months she had spent with her, when Sophie receives an invitation from Megan’s brother in jail, Sophie is more than eager to meet up with him to find out whether he has any information that could lead her to Megan. When Marc walks into the interview room Sophie has no idea of who he is though the very sight of his beautiful Sophie all grown up hits Marc nearly stunning him momentarily. Before Sophie knows it, she is held at gunpoint by Megan’s brother as he flees the four walls of the prison that had been his home for the past 6 years. It is only later on that Megan realizes that Marc Hunter is none other than her Hunt and that Marc had broken out of prison because he feared for Megan and little Emily’s life. It is then Sophie learns of the horrors that Megan had undergone at the Denver Juvenile Detention Centre at the hands of the guards who are sworn to protect the lives of those under them violating the lives of so many women. As Sophie and Marc race against time to find Megan and Emily before the determined and corrupt government officials get their hands on Megan and silence her forever, so does the white hot attraction and feelings between Marc and Sophie escalate which left me breathless -almost all the time! Sigh!

Likes: There is nothing like a hot hero to keep the pages turning and Marc is just the epitome of perfect hero material. With his scars and sexy tattoos and his oh so perfect body its a wonder I made it through the story without continuously drooling from the sides of my mouth. Yes, he is that hot. The thing that always astonishes me with every story I read from Ms. Clare is the fact that her heroines are equally appealing. Most of the time heroines tend to get on my nerves one way or the other but I guess Ms. Clare knows just the right ingredients to make her heroines as appealing as the heroes. I loved the combustive passion between Marc and Sophie which were of the eyebrow singeing type. Ms. Clare delivers on all fronts especially with a much needed against the wall scene and an against the car scene which just made my day! And as always loved revisiting the characters from the previous stories which always makes the next book a plus point in my opinion.

Unlawful Contact is a good example of how good writing cannot save a terrible book.

My problems with this book are many, but we'll start with the characters:

1) Marc Hunter is possessive and violent. I found him to be completely unheroic and most of how he treated Sophie creeped me out. He got jealous when he found the morning-after pills in her apartment? Did he think she was living in a nunnery for 10 years? He follows her around in his Jag, just to watch over her? Hello -- Edward Cullen and his creepy spying-because-he-loves-her nonsense. And the way he panders to her when she is explaining her strategy for the case. Marc knew all this because he was an investigator/agent/whatever, but he was letting her talk. Letting her talk?! So nice of the big man to let his little lady talk.

2)Sophie was a wet noodle. "It's okay, dear. You only pointed a gun at me because you are suffering from PTSD after six years in prison. I forgive you. Let's have sex." Really? Not, "Honey, let's get you some therapy." And then she willfully decides to bring a child into this relationship! Poor decision making skills dear. As far as she knows, the best future will be her as a single mom with NO money, a stressful job, and the child's father dead in a shootout with the police. Preventing a pregnancy seems like the smart thing to do in that situation, especially when there is a chance she will be in prison too. And I found the turn around from "I'm in my dream job" to "all I care about is bearing Marc's child" unbelievable and diminishing of Sophie. I think this is what Dear Author called the Defeated Heroine (http://dearauthor.com/features/letter...).

Then the plot:

I'm supposed to believe that they all turn into one, big, happy middle-class family after all this? After only one year? That's there's not years of therapy required before Marc is allowed to have a gun again? That the judge says "I think time served is fine"? I think the ending diminished all the struggles a real happy ending for this family would have to go through.

Then the two scenes that pissed me off:

1)The book was published in 2008. I don't know when it was written, but it should have been updated to reflect that Sophie would get her hands on a picture of Marc BEFORE she saw him in prison. She could have googled him (a DEA agent kills a DEA agent would still be easy to find). She could have searched her own newspaper's archives for a photo. I'm sure they had one, a big case like that. Those two options ignores the online inmate search. Even if she didn't find a photo of him this way, it should have been addressed. I really doubted her investigative skills that she didn't even LOOK!

2)Tonguing sushi like he's pretending to perform oral sex. Just eew.

I really liked The Naked Edge, so this book was an even greater disappointment. I had such high hopes. Instead, my favorite bad-boy trope was ruined.

Unlawful Contact is the kind of book that once you start reading, it is almost impossible to put down. It’s one of those edge of your seat books, where you look at your watch and realize that you should have gone to bed hours ago. Who needs sleep?

Unlawful Contact is the third I-Team series book by Pamela Clare. The book focuses on Sophie Alton, an I-Team investigative journalist and Marc Hunter, a former DEA agent that has been in prison for the last six years. Sophie and Marc share a past but have not been in contact for over 12 years.

I really enjoy how Pamela Clare develops her plot and characters. While I liked Sophie’s character, she did make some pretty impulsive decisions that put her in harm’s way. I understand that a journalist would want to do everything possible to get a story, but at times I felt that she was just a tad irresponsible. On the other hand, Sophie’s fight for justice and the rights of women in prisons and halfway houses was admirable.

Marc’s character was scary, yet likable. An ex-soldier, ex-DEA, convicted murderer, Marc had nothing to lose when he escaped from prison. As the story unfolds, more of Marc’s character and background is revealed. Marc becomes more of a dangerous hero, a fall guy. I felt so bad for Marc. His situation seemed so hopeless.

I loved the chemistry between Marc and Sophie. I found it amusing that Sophie did not recognize Marc at first because she had been expecting him to be married with children somewhere. I loved how he called her sprite, his pet name for her from their past. When Sophie realizes who Marc is, she notices that the sparks are still there. Together, Marc and Sophie were almost combustible. There were some very hot love scenes.

Off to read Naked Edge…..

Smoking! "Unlawful Contact" is Pamela Clare's third contemporary about a group of investigative reporters as they find love and danger while searching for the truth. These stories grab you by the throat and you can't put the darn book down until it's over. Fast-moving and packed with thrills and chills...Clare is now a must-buy for me!

Sophie has never forgotten the 'bad boy' she gifted with her virginity. Over the last twelve years, she's had several opportunities to recall the event with fondness and gratefulness for the care he took. Sure, she's imagined seeing him again...but it was never like this!

Marc has spent the last six years in prison serving a sentence of life without parole. He's accepted the choices he made which led to his current situation. Many nights the only thing that gets him through is memories of the sweet girl who gave him her virginity and believed in him when no one else would. He's happy she made something of her life as a crack reporter. But when she becomes the only way to save his sister and baby niece, Marc realizes he'll have to let go of his fantasy girl and accept the disgust he's sure she'll feel when she figures out who he is.

Whew...I think I'm still a bit overheated. This just may be her best I-Team series book yet. Not just because of Marc and Sophie but because we get another look at luscious Julian! The mystery is intriguing, the action is adrenaline-inducing, and the sizzle between the hero and heroine will leave you in a sweat. Now I have to wait until November 2009 for the next one.
