All’s fair in love and work. The first standalone romance by New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Beautiful Bastard) is a sexy, compulsively readable romantic comedy that dives headlong into the thrill and doubt of modern love.

Despite the odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend’s Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. Even the realization that they’re both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn’t enough to squash the fire.

But when their two agencies merge—causing the pair to vie for the same position—all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful, blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Carter and Evie are both thirtysomething professionals—so why can’t they act like it?

Can Carter stop trying to please everyone and see how their mutual boss is really playing the game? Can Evie put aside her competitive nature long enough to figure out what she really wants in life? Can their actor clients just be something close to human? Whether these two Hollywood love/hatebirds get the storybook Hollywood ending or just a dramedy of epic proportions, you will get to enjoy Christina Lauren’s heartfelt, raucous, and hilarious romance style at its finest.

At the moment, I find myself on what I’m dubbing a Christina Lauren bender. Four books in as many weeks qualify for this finicky reader—one driven by mood and prone to bouts of boredom, staved off only with a flux of genres. Turning the last page of one book and wanting to instantaneously reach for another—written by the same author(s)—is a rare occurrence for me. Like spotting a unicorn rare. It’s actually taken a bit of willpower on my part to pace the binge sessions. Putting off the inventible book hangover, sure to be given as a token upon completion of that final unread Christina Lauren.

With Dating You Hating You, the dynamic writing duo brings their readers back to where it all started, well sort of. Similar to Beautiful Bastard, this is a workplace romance, just approached from a different angle. The couple battling it out within these pages meets prior to becoming colleagues and the underlying message is one that delivers a mighty girl power punch.

A mutual friend’s Halloween party spells meet-cute for Carter and Evie. All of you muggles are sure to get a kick out of their accidental matching. I know I did and I haven’t even cracked a Harry Potter cover. *gasp*

For both workaholic talent agents in Hollywood—with little effort or time given to seriously dating—this feels different somehow. There’s an easiness to Carter and Evie's connection and a steady flow of flirty banter. Cue my inner giddy, giggly girl.

The excitement buzzing around the possibility of their fledgling connection is quickly thwarted when the potential beaus find themselves pitted against one another. In a surprising turn of events, their firms merge, forcing the pair to compete for what might be only one position in the Features department.

With a douchebag boss stoking the competitive fires and perpetuating a sexist environment, it’s no surprise Carter and Evie raise their hackles and prepare to outdo their opponent. Even in the midst of their "hating/dating" battle, things tend to skew more towards love. It’s a storyline rife with pranks—equal parts comical and juvenile—and told by two characters you can’t help but to root for.

Despite the Hollywood setting and industry, Evie and Carter are both genuine people. I adored Evie for a host of reasons—namely, her backbone, dedication and all around positive nature in such a vapid and undermining environment. And no big surprise here, Carter stole my heart, right along with Evie’s. It was more than just the nerdy glasses and ugly striped tie that got me, it was Carter himself. His kindness, humor, and acknowledgment that sometimes it’s a struggle to be a woman in a “man’s world”. I’m sure we can all agree, some men are just straight clueless in this arena or refuse to recognize there's even an issue; making Carter’s view that much more refreshing.

This time around, Christina Lauren underscores their signature FUN and sexiness with this powerful message: be your own advocates, ladies. Demand equal pay and recognition for your hard work. And hey, you just might find love along the way. *wink*

the fact that this has been compared to ‘the hating game’ means that my expectations were probably a little too high… but christina lauren have written some of my favourite contemporary romance novels, so i felt my expectations were justified. however, some of their usual swoon-worthy touch seemed to be missing in this book.

the most noticeable difference was this story hardly focused on the relationship between the two main characters, meaning there definitely was not enough interaction between them to make a good contemporary romance book. i would say a good 70% of this focused on the two characters individually and their jobs. i understand this was an office romance, and that they were competing for the same position, but wow. i get enough of work in my own life. the last thing i want to do is read 300 pages about someone elses job. goodness me. lol.

however, i will praise this book until the end of my days for honestly tackling the issue of double standards and the inequality of women in the workplace. this not only highlighted just how difficult it can be for a woman in a field primarily dominated by men, but also demanded the need for it to change. the fact this relevant problem was included in the book is the sole reason im rounding up my rating to four stars.

overall, this wasnt a bad book. it was still funny and cute and very much entertaining. it just unfortunately wasnt up to the standards that i usually expect from this author.

yeah not entirely sure how/why this was published. i know that's harsh, and i almost feel bad saying it. but what was the point? the romance was nonexistent and the plot was not at all interesting. comparing this to The Hating Game is an insult.

this was the only christina lauren romcom i hadn't read so i guess there's that.

Dating You/Hating You was so much fun to read. If you are a fan of books that make you laugh out loud and the enemies to lovers troupe, this is a must read!

What I really loved, is that it didn’t start out as an enemies to lovers story. Carter and Evie were set up by their mutual friends (who were a hoot!) and really hit it off. It seemed like there would be a few dates and maybe even a relationship in their future. Then the merger happened. Both of them are married to their job and when their jobs were on the line, things changed. Hence the enemies to lovers story line.
"Simply put, Evelyn Abbey is my former almost-girlfriend-turned-archnemesis-turned-tentative-ally whom I would now very much like to permanently seduce.”

I loved both Evie and Carter so much. I think it was great to see this side of the corporate world. I loved how Carter saw some of the injustices and didn’t just roll with them, even though it could further him along with his job. I thought the plot was very well done. Evie and Carter had so much chemistry and the story had just enough steam.

Dating You/Hating You had the perfect mix of sexual tension, humor, banter, and steam. It was highly entreating and a lot of fun to read!

When Evie's friend sets her up with Carter, at a Halloween party, Evie is initially embarrassed but can't help but admit that they've hit it off. Though both are agents living in LA and dedicated to their jobs they tentatively decide to begin a relationship together. Things get even more complicated when their firms merge and the two end up pitted against each other for the same position and it becomes difficult for them to reconcile their romantic feelings with the problems at work.

I thought the book was cute, and it's clearly aimed at a certain demographic of women but I don't care that I might not fall into it, I still enjoyed reading it. It's a romance novel so I wouldn't read it expecting something deep but that said I thought that all the back and forth between Carter and Evie was really well done and their relationship developed in a way that made it feel really natural instead of the usual love at first site crap. Also I love Evie and how she bought 3 doughnuts to eat in the morning like literally me too man. I also thought the portrayal of work place sexism was pretty well done and Carter's eventual realization of what was happening and attempts at acknowledging it and trying to help was pretty cool. Any thing to do with -isms is hard to execute in a way that doesn't seem annoying and preachy but I think the book did a pretty good job here.

DATING YOU HATING YOU is the latest “enemies to lovers” standalone by the dynamic writing duo Christina Lauren. It is packed full of their usual snarky banter, and a Hero and Heroine that readers are sure to fall in love with.

Evie Abbey and Carter Aaron meet at a mutual friend’s Halloween costume party. They instantly hit it off and end up going out on a date a week later, which turns out to be pretty phenomenal. Even though they are both Hollywood celebrity agents who work for rival agencies and they have a strict policy against dating people in the business, they can’t fight the chemistry that exists between them. Just when things couldn’t seem to get any better, the rug is literally pulled out from under them when Evie’s company acquisitions Carter’s. To make matters worse, it turns out they are now working in the same department and their douche of a boss is making them compete against each other for a permanent position on the team.

Their current situation at work makes it hard for the couple to pick up where they left off. Misunderstandings and extreme competitive natures on both sides have Evie and Carter constantly trying to one-up and playfully sabotage each other as well.

As hard as they try to bury their true feelings for each other, ultimately the building tension ends up coming to an impasse and the two end up sharing one wild night of passion together. When Carter and Evie realize that what they feel for each other goes way beyond physical attraction, will they be able to keep their common career aspirations separate from their personal lives? Or will they yet again focus solely on their careers and neglect all other aspects of their lives?

Listen up, if this was my first Christina Lauren book, I would've probably liked it more because it was that bad.
But it isn't, so 🤷‍♀️

The characters were all right, both of them. They didn't find any creative ways of annoying me out of my mind and for that, I am grateful. Somehow, the story had something missing. It needed one element (that I can't put my finger on right now so I can't tell) to make it be more exciting.

Also, the story itself reminded me very much of The Hating Game which, in my opinion, was better.

Overall, this book was just all right, I guess.

“Evie’s in denial, trying to convince herself that she hates Carter.”
“Ohhhh. I like Carter…”
“You realize he’s my nemesis, right?”

This book started out as a light-hearted romantic comedy, before taking a turn into seriously angsty territory, and then rolling out incredibly important themes that made it such an relevant story to be told today. I was so impressed with this story -- not only was it entertaining and enjoyable, it also sent a strong message. A truly fantastic read!

The writing was absolutely outstanding. Every few pages, I'd literally make these little notes to myself commenting on how amazing and strong the writing was. The words flowed, the characterizations and descriptions were vivid, and it all rounded out by great editing. The pacing was on point, and the story was structured in such a way where I felt like I could see everything playing in my mind like a movie. It was snappy, witty, intelligent, and addictive!

Carter and Evie were both very strong, career-driven character and I loved their chemistry. I could feel it and my heart pitter-pattered through most of their scenes together. Their draw towards each other was palatable and I really loved their romance. Plus, I felt that the story gave a really fresh, modern portrayal of adulthood.

“Hey, Evil,” he says, walking toward me.
It doesn’t feel weird to reach up and hug him.
He wraps his arms all the way around me, and I shiver a little when I feel the solidness of his body against mine.
“It’s so good to see you.”
“You too,” I say.
… I know how relationships work. My mom reminds me of this all the time, and of the balance it takes for two people to combine their lives into one. But I’ve always felt like it shouldn’t be work right away. Over time, yeah, I can see some effort needing to come into play when the honeymoon phase wears off… But initially, being with someone should feel like the best and most natural thing in the world.
I’ve never felt that chemistry before, but I definitely feel it with Carter. My blood hums just being near him, and I can’t stop grinning. He smells amazing and holds me so tight, squeezing a little more just before letting go.
Straightening, he gazes down at my face. “I think I forgot how pretty you are.”

So the story itself is about these two rival Hollywood agents who are both single -- married to their work if anything. They've both sacrificed and worked hard to get to where they are and their respective reputations within their industry have been well earned. They're introduced at a party one night through a mutual friend and hit it off strong.

“You know I’m hoping to kiss you later, no matter how many dorky pictures you show me.”
My heart takes off, a beating drum in the wild jungle beneath my ribs. “I’m older than you,” I blurt.
He just shrugs, like this was a completely normal thing to say. “So?”
“We’re in the same business.”
I watch him process this for a breath, and he chews on his lip before saying, “Maybe it’s not ideal, but it’s not worth staying away from you because of it.”
… “I’m notoriously married to my job.”
“That’s super convenient because so am I. It’ll be like we’re cheating on our jobs with each other.” He says this as if he’s just discovered some brilliant loophole.

After their first date confirms that their sizzling chemistry is something they both want to pursue, they're happily and dreamily heading into dating-ville when an unexpected and shocking change uproots their lives.

Their rival agencies merge overnight and suddenly they're being forced to compete for the same coveted position. They both need this job, they've both dedicated their lives to get this far, and they both have everything to lose and are determined not to give up. So their budding romance quickly turns into a competitive sabotage driven war...

“Simply put, Evelyn Abbey is my former almost-girlfriend-turned-archnemesis-turned-tentative-ally whom I would now very much like to permanently seduce...”

So... I kind of went into this book expecting the whole thing to be a light-hearted, sexy enemies-to-lovers romp -- almost more of a fun, fluffy read. And yes, many parts of it were that. But there was a really cleverly-written undertone that really MADE this book in my eyes -- and that was tackling the issue of sexism in the workplace. I don't think there's a woman alive who won't relate on some level to what Evie went through in this book.

There is an unspoken pecking order in agenting, defined primarily by who brings in the most publicity and money — and this year, that is likely to be me.
But there are other factors, too. Such as: having a penis. Apparently that’s a big one.

At first, before I realized it to be one of the book's themes, I was just annoyed with how her boss was treating her -- I thought his misogynist treatment of her was being used as a way to stir up drama. But the more I read, the more I realized just how IMPORTANT that element of this story was. How relevant. How incredibly fucking real it was. I was MAD. ANGRY. The way her boss treated her made my blood boil. In part, my drive to keep reading was just as much a visceral desire to see him get his comeuppance as it was my investment in the romance. And I was so impressed with the way this storyline was used to bringing attention to workplace sexism. And the reason its portrayal was so well done was because of how SUBTLE it was. There were no over-the-top outrageously things her boss did -- it was aaaaaall about the subtleties and little comments, little actions. So seeing Carter come to realize what was happening and seeing him choose how to handle it was incredible satisfying as a female reader.

“Carter, look at this from my side. No one ever told a guy he needs to be nicer at work to get ahead… I tried nice, Carter,” she says, “and here I am, fighting to keep my job — a job I’m more qualified for, if we’re being honest.”

And on a lighter note, there was a lot more to this book than that theme (even though for me, that was the standout part of the story) and overall it was a really great read. I didn't want to put it down. I was rooting for the romance and found myself strangely invested in even their work lives (which is rare for me, since usually I only really care about the romance) but I definitely credit the writing for the fact that all aspects of this story were interesting. The writing was easily 5 STARS. However, I did find both the ending and the 'reveal' to be predictable so while nothing really came as a surprise to me, I still have to give major kudos to the authors for making this book addictive even though I knew what was going to happen. In a perfect world, I would have wanted the ending to have a bit more of a triumphant 'oooomph' and to surprise me a little, but even still, it delivered a satisfying and solid ending!

This was a complete standalone told in alternating POVs in first person perspective. It had both a fun, flirty, light-hearted, and sexy side to it, as well as a much more serious and raw undertone. I really enjoyed it!

This book delivered the perfect blend of smart writing, sexy romance, and an addictive story! Whether you're a long-time fan of these authors or you're new to them, I'd definitely recommend trying this out!

Rating: 4.5 stars! Standalone Contemporary Romance

description

I LOVE all things Christina Lauren and Dating You Hating You was no exception.

Basic premise: Evie and Carter meet at a Halloween party and instantly hit it off. I loved their first meeting, which was filled with the awesome banter I think the writing duo has become known for:

I can't stifle the laugh this time, and it tears from me, surprising him as it does everyone who has ever heard it. I am small but my laugh is mighty.
He stares at me with a slow-growing amused grin. "Wow."
"Hi." I hold out my hand. "I'm Evie."
"Is that short for Evil?"
"It's short for Evelyn. The cackle is my gift. It keeps the delicate ones away."
"I'm Carter." He points two thumbs at his chest. "Not delicate. I promise."

Evie and Carter are attracted to one another and despite their hectic work schedules as Hollywood agents, they want to see where their relationship could go.

"You give good shoulder."
"I...what?"
He nods to my dress. "Your dress. Your shoulders." Clearing his throat, he adds quietly, "You just...look amazing."
I whisper, "Thanks," and take a long drink of ice water to cool down the boiling just beneath the surface of my skin."So what's the latest in Caterland?"
He grins at my subject change. "Work. Dodging calls from my parents. Texting a cute agent down the road. You know."

Sounds good right? Wrong.

When their companies merge, they realize they'll be fighting for the same position. And any romantic feelings they had start to become replaced with animosity, jealousy, and a bunch of humorous office pranks that leave them trying to constantly one up the other.

"...but screw him and his perfect forearms and cute crooked smile and diva brother.
I'm so tired of wanting to shove him into the wall and then shove my hand down his pants."

i hate you photo L_zpsecks0b5o.gif

"I might want to watch him suffer, but I don't want him to be miserable.
Because you like him, my brain teases in a sneering whisper. Really, really like him.
My brain is such an asshole."

I also loved how the authors made Evie such a strong woman, and how relevant her workplace issues are and how well they nailed office politics. As someone who works in an office setting, I can tell you I related to a lot of her issues and just wanted to high five the girl for all she put up with!

Carter was such a charismatic and sweet hero. There was no way Evie (or me) could help but fall for the guy. He's got charm in spades.

"You're wound so tight," he whispers before bending to kiss my neck. "How do I make you unravel?"

UMMMM you can come visit me, Carter. I've got a few ideas.

"Evie has that way about her, as if she's not often noticed in a crowd - maybe intentionally - but to me, she's like a beacon. Small but mighty. Unassuming but poised. I really wish I could fucking see her without it feeling like I've had the wind knocked out of me. It would make feigning indifference so much easier."

Even though this wasn’t as high on the heat factor I think a lot of CL fans have become accustomed to, this was SUCH a fun, smart, and sweet read. Shout out to all the side characters too! They were just fantastic (especially Daryl).

I didn't really finish reading this one because I was too bored to continue.

I think this book is more fitted for a RomCom movie vs. book. I would probably finish watching it too. But to dedicate hours of my life into reading it...no can do! 😜

I am still and will always be a Christina Lauren fan and look forward to their next book.

➦This is a pretty enjoyable office romance with plenty of humor to keep you entertained from cover to cover. After two companies have been merged, the heroine and the hero of this book find themselves competing to keep their job. To make matters worse they are very attracted to each other. So who is going to stay and who is going to take a hike?

➦I'll make this one very short and just say that I felt like the usual Christina Lauren magic was missing from this one. I needed either more interactions between the main character or more over the top humor/pranks. I didn't feel as much heat as I wanted to and there were a bit too many industry/company details that I could have lived without.

Review at Of Pens and Pages.

I know it’s too early to name my top book for 2017 since there are still six months to go, but Dating You/ Hating You is definitely one of my top 2017 reads!

I was a bit on the fence when news about this book first came out because the blurb reminded me of The Hating Game, one of my absolute favorite books. Now that I’ve read it, I think it’s safe to say that the only relevant similarity is the competing against each other aspect of the story. And that’s only a little part of what Dating You/ Hating You is about.

Two single talent agents in competing agencies meet at a Halloween party filled with couples. Despite their jobs, a connection is made, numbers are exchanged, and a week later, a date is set. These two talent agents have more in common than their career choices, and from the interactions they’ve had so far, they have a lot of chemistry between them.

With a possibility of a new relationship on the horizon, things are going well for our two talent agents… until their agencies merge and they’re vying for a position only one of them can get.

This book made me so happy! I’ve seen a lot of enemies to lovers office romances, but rarely a story where the enemy-to-lover aspect comes a bit later. The characters and situations were relatable, the characters likable, and the story had a great pace and flow that made me tear into this book page to page. Finished this baby in one sitting!

I wanted to weep when I was on the last page. Oh, the bittersweet feeling of finishing a book. You’re so happy to read the happily ever after, but incredibly sad because there’s nothing left to read of it.

Dating You/ Hating You is a lot different than the duo’s previous books, and I actually love this so much more. This is definitely a more mature Christina Lauren, but the humor, effortless banter, great characters, and sizzling sexual tension are still there. I could feel the emotions seeping through the book—anger, joy, lust, longing. Plus, Carter made me swoon!

I’ve always been interested in what goes on behind the scenes, so it was nice to get a glimpse of what goes on in a talent agency. And I loved reading about the injustices and sexism women still face in the industry regardless of their skills and talent. Evie was a force to be reckoned with, I want to be like her one day.

Christina Lauren fans and contemporary romance readers will definitely enjoy this entertaining, sexy, and laugh out loud book.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this trope similar to “The Hating Game” where two people secretly totally dig each other, but become total crushing enemies when they are forced to compete after a merger at work. Carter and Evie have a complete meet-cute when they are the only singles at a party and both come as Harry Potter characters. I love the adorkability there. And you have to sympathize with them when their boss (who is completely hateable) pits them against one another. Carter isn’t a jerk. He’s not some alpha male set on controlling Evie. They’re both decent people who just don’t want to lose their jobs, which is why this novel really really pulls at your heartstrings.

Over the course of this, Carter and Evie push and pull at each other. There’s funny pranks of course, but also moments of seriousness where you can’t help but ship this cute couple. And I also enjoyed the way they personally found their inner strength to start to stand up for what they truly believed in. A great read!

Thank you to Gallery Books for sending me an ARC.

Christina Lauren is one of my favorite authors of all time, so it kills me to say I didn't really enjoy this book. I see a lot of people already comparing this book to The Hating Game but the only thing this book has in common with The Hating Game is that it's an office romance that follows a male and female lead who are competing for the same position. This book follows Evie and Carter and they are both talent agents in Hollywood, trying to find the next big thing in Hollywood. This storyline should be right up my alley because I love reading books that take place in Hollywood and involve the movie scene, but this book ended up being kind of boring....

I didn't really care for either Evie or Carter in this book, and I especially didn't care whether or not they ended up together. I didn't see the chemistry between them, which is shocking because Christina Lauren has written some of my favorite fictional couples ever, but this one just didn't do it for me. Also, this story is so much more focused on the work and the business an their jobs than on the actual romance itself - which made it incredibly boring for me at times. The way Evie and Carter would pick on each other was immature and childish, in an obnoxious way that got on my nerves. And this story is so repetitive, with their love/hate relationship for each other. It got frustrating after so many times.

The one thing I really liked about this book is how it talks about women vs. men in the office and the sexism that happens all the time. It really dives deep into this topic, and at times I thought it got a little too political for a new adult romance, but I appreciated it nonetheless.

The ending was very predictable, I saw it coming from a mile away, and it was cheesy. I'm just completely shocked that I didn't love this. I barely even liked it. I would recommend Christina Lauren's Wild Seasons series over this, or The Hating Game by Sally Thorne if you're looking for a good office romance. Unfortunately, this one just didn't do it for me.

A STAND ALONE ROMANTIC COMEDY FROM CHRISTINA LAUREN??

Also, this kind of sounds similar to The Hating Game and I loved that book so that makes me even more excited.

Dating You / Hating You is my first paperback read for the year. There's something about holding a book that makes it feel extra special. And the pretty cover was the icing on the cake.

"Simply put, Evelyn Abbey is my former almost-girlfriend-turned-archnemesis-turned-tentative-ally whom I would now very much like to permanently seduce."

If I had to pick one sentence from the book to sum it up that one would be it. Carter and Evie (or as Carter likes to call her, Evil) were an amazing couple when they were together and fun to watch when they “battled” for the same position at work.

These two were set up at a costume party by well-meaning friends. You know the saying about how all people in relationships want their single friends in a relationship too so they can do “couples” things together. This is one of those situations. Their mutual friends' plan is working UNTIL Carter and Evie’s companies merge and now they’re vying for the same position. All bets are off and things turn into one big circus.

"And it hit me. I hate it there. I love what I do - I love you - but I hate P&D. It’s like trying to work in the middle of a dodgeball game."

Gah, the things out of Carter’s mouth could make me melt. Not to say, there weren’t times when I was thinking what are you doing, Carter? But then Carter would open his mouth and say something sweet and I’d be back on his team.

Dating You / Hating You is standalone contemporary romance set in the workplace. Fans of the amazing writing duo, Christina Lauren, are in for an entertaining read with this story. Enjoy this laugh out loud book. MUST READ

Evie Abbey is a highly successful features talent agent at Price & Dickles in Los Angeles. She meets Carter Aaron, a television literary talent agent at CT Management, when they both attend a costume party hosted by mutual friends and they're the only singles. Turns out they really clicked, even though they worked for competing agencies. When circumstances play a cruel joke and they end up not only working together but in direct competition for the same job, things get...well, complicated.

What I really loved about this story was its authenticity. Most of us know how cutthroat the Hollywood industry can be so there's no way to avoid having two successful people not have a little larceny in their souls. Evie and Carter react so honestly when thrust into situations where their personal and professional relationships are tested. Add in a truly repugnant, sexist manager who has it in for Evie and the resultant brew is toxic. These two resort to pranks and other silly games to one up each other for a time and some are hilarious but mostly just not who they are. Balancing a secret personal relationship was challenging and it rang true.

But mostly what's on display is the disparity in the treatment of women in the workplace. It takes him a bit but Carter finally gets it. Seeing it played out from his point of view was enlightening. He's a good guy and still moves slowly to call it out. It doesn't bog down the story and realistically portrays how women adjust to their unfortunate normal.

While I have other books by the author, this is my first read. Now I understand what all the fuss is about. The characters and situations are crafted intelligently with a careful lens through reality. I'd like these people if I met them, more because of their imperfections. The two narrators, Shayna Tibodeaux and Deacon Lee, became these characters and represented them perfectly. I'm so glad I opted for the audio version! I enjoyed the characters, their relationships, the humor and the story they lived. Now, if I could just get more of this author's titles on my reading schedule.

4.25 Loving It / Awesome Stars

Every time I see a new book by these authors I get a tingle inside. I JUST LOVE everything they write. Dating You / Hating You is their newest standalone and I would describe it as witty, comical and a touch sassy.

The thing I like about Dating You / Hating You is how well it’s written. My reading was effortless and at times it felt like I wasn’t even reading, I felt like I was a part of the story and going along for the ride. I love this low muss and low fuss kind of reading. I also liked how well developed the story and the characters were. The writing wasn’t forced and the chemistry between the two main characters were off the charts.

Carter and Evie meet through mutual friends at a party. They are also both Hollywood agents. I really liked that they are agents. I felt like it was a new and refreshing profession to read in a romance book. I’m not sure how realistic the storyline is because I know nothing about that world, but I felt like I learned a lot and it was just fun to read.

The thing with Carter and Evie is that if you share the same profession with your significant other, there will be competition one way or another. Here’s the thing. It’s not like after they met they are at each other’s throats, there is a reason for the tension and I liked that. It didn’t come out of the blue. Everything that happens in the book happens for a reason and it made the book easy to read.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I felt like anyone could read it. It’s simply an imaginative entertaining piece of work.

I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed this! I loved the aspect that it follows 2 Hollywood agent's and really liked reading about their job! This book also talks a ton about sexism in the workplace which def. needs to be talked about more.
The chemistry between the 2 characters was sizzling and there were some steamy bits in this book as well.
I will be filming a mashup review & talking about this book in more depth soon!

I loooooved this! It was one of the best romances I've ever read. I loved how plot-driven it was and I liked both of the main characters. Evie was a really great female lead and I was rooting for her the whole time. The setting of a Hollywood agency was super interesting and I enjoyed that there was even a little enemies-to-lovers situation thrown in.

Well. I'm kinda tongue-twisted on what I should say to describe this wonderful creation and not spoil it at the same time.

But I gotta start somewhere.

So here we go...

-----------------

Cover: Simple but cute enough. It's just so straightforward about the story overall. Besides the guy in the cover is cute. So, I'll give one rating here.

The backstory: Well the backstory is pretty interesting. Girl meets guy at a friend's party. They both hit it off and even start planning their wedding vows (kidding somewhat).

But then the plot twist shows up when they are each other's rivals after a merge.

God it makes everything so darn more interesting. No CEO crap, no secretary, just two employees simply acting like two grown adults who like and hate each other. So definitely points to that.

The romance: Well it's more of a slow burn in the beginning but then the tension increases, and it's almost got me hooting and rooting for them hard! Especially the dialogues, and the alone moments they rarely got, just made me swoon so hard.

The personalities, the characters themselves: Well Evie's personality is definitely something of a controlled, cool and calm working woman even though she's been undermined a lot by her boss and colleagues. But she's still chill, fun, and hardworking, a likeable personality. As for Carter, a witty, cocky, underestimated, but hardworking as well guy. He's been definitely been dealt a lot of bad cards courtesy to his family and job. But otherwise a joy to read about. They're both tons of fun to read about, relatable, and aspirational.

The ending and other ends tied in: Well the ending is obviously a happy one, but with their issues and own differences worked out. The side characters are absolutely wonderful. Michael Christopher with Steph and their children are so cute, sigh..would love a story on them. Daryl and Eric please, a story, I love them so much...? Amelia is funny as well, I hope she finds her soulmate, she deserves it.

So I loved EVERYTHING about this novel. And I crave more Christina Lauren, sigh, so damn badly.

Damn them for becoming an addiction.

But you get the point.

Until the next read,

Amor Versus Carreira

Leiam e divirtam-se😁👍🌟🌟🌟🌟

Probably would have liked this more if I was expecting a women's fiction novel about discrimination in the workplace/a shout out to the Time's Up movement. (Go Girl Power!) Instead, I felt a bit underwhelmed by this romance (can this really be called a romance?) and bored for a large chunk of the book.

Don't go into this looking for something that resembles The Hating Game.

This doesn't even come close.

(Also...still not over the Carter Aaron name situation. Like, was that for real?)

New trend - age-shaming?

She chewed my ear off how old she was, and she wasn't married, and all others were married and had kids, and she was soooo old... blah blah blah
The woman was ONLY 33!!!
And then they introduced me to him and he was 28...
Would I read about her complaints how old she was and how young he was?

Embrace your age, honey!!!

I want my ear back!

Oh boy!! This book took me FOREVER to finish I kept trying to come up with excuses to avoid reading it. It’s not bad, per say I just didn’t care for it. I was told it was comparable to The Hating Game. Nope, not even close. Sorry.

I think this was the fastest I’ve ever read a book. Mostly it’s explained by the update I’ve given. This book, in simple terms, was BORING. The characters were childish and rather than reading about a 30-something career woman I felt I was reading about a cheerleading completions between middle-schoolers. Do people really do these kind of things in corporate environment because I certainly have not seen it. It was just silly and over the top. The main reason I picked this up was so I can have a light-hearted read in between some serious reading but I ended up getting a bigger headache while reading this. Certainly not on par with the last book I’ve read of this pair. I have about three more Christina Lauren books in my shelf and for sure I won’t be going back to them any time soon. This book showed me why I left rom-com NA books in the first place. Disappointing overall.
