In this debut by motivational speaker Ari Gunzburg, you learn the simple system to unlock your destiny and achieve your own greatness.
Imaginative Motivational Book about Mindfulness and Taking Action
This imaginative book, filled with empathetic, eccentric characters is a modern-day tale about a man who meets various guides on his journey toward self-actualisation. He meets a magical being named "Pinch" whom he encounters at a time when he is full of doubt, anxiety and despair. It is through Pinch that he is introduced, one by one, to other helpers who teach him about the five principles of achieving greatness. The acronym, G.R.E.A.T, is a memory aide to remembering these principles - five in total, and they each begin with a letter of this word: Give, Reason, Engage, Amazing, Tenacity. Put these five principles with passion and action, directed in small steps towards our personal goals, and we have a recipe for success and wealth. The author's idea of success is highly individual, as is the notion that we can be wealthy and rich in ways that do not always involve money or material things. This book reminded me of "The Secret" and of Tony Robbin's lifecoaching books. The teachings are not especially new, but this book is unique because of the way in which the ideas were communicated in a kind of story, which helps readers grasp the key points to the framework, revise them, commit them to memory, and reflect on them before putting them into action. The story had dramatic effect because we meet two characters, the main protagonist, and one of the aides, who have reached a problematic challenge in their lives that they need to overcome. This device persuades the reader to read on to find out what happens. I liked many of the philosophical insights in this book. In particular, the idea that ruminating - allowing our thoughts to run in circles will not be productive in reaching goals. While thoughts are important to ourselves, allowing us to reflect on our lives, it is action that will influence how others see and define us and it is through agency that we make a difference: "So while our thoughts are important to us, our actions are more important to everyone else ... Our actions lend reality to our thoughts in many cases. Actions last. So take action when you can." Being a children's author, and lifecoach, I was already a captive audience when I read the following: "If you want to see people who instinctively know all or most of our keys, watch little children. You can see kids working tirelessly to solve a problem ... Little children are present, engaged and almost always positive." Overall I think this is a good read which will help creatives and business people improve different aspects of their lives, and "grow" their dreams into reality. My only reservation about the book was that the lifestyle fictional story did feel a little artificial at times. I think the story could be written with a little more magic to capture folk's imaginations. Alternatively, real life cases could be used to illustrate the author's key lifecoaching points.

‘Remember your greatness within…let it out into the world’
Maryland author Ari Gunzburg is devoted to encouraging hope and inspiration to a world in need! His message is transmitted through his international motivational speaking engagements, his podcast ‘Way To Greatness,’ through his excellent children’s books, the company MindSpark that he founded, and now he addresses adults with THE LITTLE BOOK OF GREATNESS – a very fine way to discover Ari’s message of hope and change to people interested in personal development.
Ari sets the tone if this reassuring book as he opens with a touching introduction: In total darkness, it only takes little light to shine the way. In a world where so many are in darkness of one type or another, we can shine a little light for each other, so we call all see the way. We each have the potential of greatness within us. A greatness of our own understanding. We often lack the tools to refine this greatness and bring us to our destiny.’ And in this book Ari supplies those tools as his five keys: Give/Provide, Reason/Purpose, Engage/Presence, Amazing/Positivity, and Tenacity/Persistence.
To punctuate his advice Ari has created a fable, a story not unlike his sensitive children’s books, but this one for adults, and he provides a synopsis of that fable: ‘David is struggling with life, let alone his destiny. He is overwhelmed, busy, and tired. Life is not turning out how he hoped. He feels disconnected, disenchanted. What comes next? How can he get out of this space? He visits a spot from his youth, a cliff above the highway, to contemplate life. There, his life changes forever as a random man approaches David through the woods, at the top of the cliff. This man understands what David is going through. The man tells David how he jumped, how he took his own leap of faith, years ago. While standing there, tempting fate, the man tells David about a secret system. A system for unlocking his destiny, for achieving his dreams, for living his best life ever. The man sends David on a journey to learn about the 5 Keys To Greatness. The timeline shortens as David learns he may be facing his own mortality. One at a time, David meets men and women who describe each key to him, unlocking the tools he needs to live his best life ever.’
It is encouraging to find an author who, sensitive to our times, presents a positive future. We all need to read this book!
3.5- I enjoyed this book, and found it refreshingly insightful. It was motivational and had a lean towards mindfulness, I loved the message here, and I loved how it was delivered. It has a deep psychological meaning that can be applied to your own everyday life.
The main character is at an extremely low point in his life and on the verge of despair and meets a man named Pinch, who introduces him to a number of other characters who in turn teach him the principles of greatness and how to apply these to his own life, to pull him away from the brink.
The main character is likeable and the side characters he meets along the way are a great addition. This reminded me of the style of Mitch Albom who I love. I thought the principles were explained in a clever and also moving way, and there is a lot more to this book than meets the eye.
“Greatness, at least the way we talk about it, is elevating yourself. Becoming more you. Becoming a better you.”-the little book of GREATNESS
If you haven’t made your New Year’s Resolutions yet, READ THIS BOOK..if you have already made your resolutions, READ THIS BOOK..if you weren’t going to make resolutions this year, READ THIS BOOK...I think you get my drift here..I think everyone could benefit from reading this book!
This book for me is a modern day parable. A man named David is at the end of his rope..he has lost clarity..devices that should streamline his time in actuality suck it away..
He meets a man that asks him to go talk to 5 keyholders. Eddie, Ezra, Celia, Malcolm, and Jade. All ordinary people with extraordinary advice.
There are other people on David’s journey like Regina, a bar owner, who help to give clarity to David after each keyholder chat.
Through each of their perspectives, David will learn how GREAT (Give, Reason, Engage, Amazing, Tenacity) will change his life and those he comes in contact with.
I have too many favorite parts in the book to name but one of the most memorable is when David is talking to Regina and going over what he had written down when he brainstormed 5 essential things to leading a good life. David wrote down some pretty similar answers that I would have written. When he discusses it with Regina, she turns the list he made into a much more global list that I really never thought about but then she lasered into how to define individual greatness.
I gained so much insight from this book but the way it is told makes it more of a story and less of a self help manual and that really made it impactful for me. I think the third key of presence and the fourth key of positivity really hit home for me. This book has enlightened me and made me think about what I can do to enhance my life. I also realize I need to take the time a jot feelings down and actually reflect on them. I immediately gave it to my husband to read when I was done so that we could talk about it together.
Like many people, I have read a variety of self help books. And like most folks, usually I pick them up when I am struggling with one of life’s many issues. I often find something in the text that resonates and helps me deal with my conflict of the moment. Occasionally I will read one of these books to brighten my mood in general, and am reminded of certain coping strategies that have bolstered my outlook in the past.
All of the books I have read followed a rather similar literary structure of chapter based organization. Generally, the reader is instructed to complete a section which explains the mechanism, discusses the reasoning behind why this approach is beneficial and then describes examples of people putting the strategy into practice. Often there are questions to guide journaling and suggested exercises to reinforce the premise. A perfectly reasonable and effective dissemination of the material. This approach provides a “textbook” feel for the reader, and until now was the only experience I have encountered.
Ari Gunzburg utilizes an entirely different approach in his parable ,The Little Book of Greatness , a parable about unlocking your destiny. In this thoroughly engaging storyline, Gunzburg creates a narrative that provides the framework for his “5 keys to greatness”. Each key corresponds to a life strategy that would be analogous to a chapter in the traditional self help format. But this fable, and interplay among the characters, is far more inviting way to present his framework.
I found myself drawn into the storyline and genuinely interested in the main characters journey, as he searched for meaning in each of the 5 keys. I appreciated the opportunity to think for myself about the meaning and application to my own life experiences, as opposed to having that “lecture to” feeling from the previous formats. While the coping strategies themselves are similar to other frameworks (ie giving, being present in the moment..) the novel presentation of this approach made the material feel fresh, and I found myself really thinking about the Keys and where I could make some lasting and positive change.
The Little Book of Greatness will help those looking for answers in turbulent times, and the folks who already feel good about their status quo. There is a positive connection for everyone to find in this story.
This contemporary parable might in fact better be described as a fictionalized self-help book, which is even complete with exercises woven cleverly into the story itself. Its objective is clear: not just to inform, but to subtly coach the reader, drawing you into the role and thought process of David, the pupil of the tale. You can certainly imagine that Ari Gunzburg has compiled into a creative narrative the resources and materials of the motivational presentations and workshops he gives in the real world – and he does so tremendously well; Ari is every bit as good an author as he is an inspirational mentor.
Simple, eloquent and articulate, with an ability to set the scene vividly, it doesn’t feel like being coached by this writer, but rather like you are watching with interest, and learning along with David. While the lessons are nothing particularly unique or novel, Ari’s refreshingly clear approach is a clever idea; had he not chosen a fiction narrative for his pretty commonplace self-help message, opting rather for a simple non-fiction format, The Little Book of Greatness might perhaps have faded into the crowd. You are advised to read the book with a pen and paper to take notes – in fact, I intend to read through it again (something I never do), in order to do just that.
With this book, the talented Ari showcases his grasp of sociology, psychology, mindfulness and zen, combining them into a holistic school of their own. Additionally, this little book is an engaging, endearing and thoroughly pleasant read, which I recommend highly. I read the whole book in two very relaxed sittings, and can honestly say that I enjoyed every moment of it; I’ve no doubt that, whatever your situation, preferred genre or the society you live in – and whether you’re religious, atheist, spiritualist or even capitalist – there is something here for everyone, so take a look.
The Little Book of Greatness is a novella length fictional story about a man named David that is also a life philosophy book in the form of a parable. David needs some changes in his life and he meets wise advisors on his way, including an old man named Pinch, a woman named Regina and five key holders. David has to deal with some adversity including a car accident and a potential health scare.
The advisors teach him that different people define greatness differently, in terms of what they want in their lives. The keys of greatness include giving both tangible and intangible things to others generously, finding a reason, purpose or meaning in life or work, being more engaged or present in the moment, having a positive attitude as well as tenacity or persistence. Achieving all this can allegedly help you unlock your destiny. Some of the advice is well worth taking, even if it's nothing new.
I liked the concept of this book which was fresh and interesting to me and it's well written and edited. But the downside is that the teaching aspect frequently makes the characters speak in cliches from inspirational posters, and it makes it hard to immerse yourself in the story when it feels more like a collection of quotes from motivational lectures than characters talking about their real lives. I guess it's a bit awkward for people to wear two hats and difficult for a book to be both fiction and self help at the same time.
While most books that are written for your “self-improvement” are found in the non-fiction section of the library, The Little Book of Greatness would be best suited in the fiction section and that is not a bad thing. The Little Book of Greatness is written as a parable that explains the 5 keys to greatness in a way that is easy to understand and is not “preachy”. A man named David is sitting on a cliff, looking down on the busy road behind him. He may be contemplating ending his life, but I am not for certain. While he is reflecting on everything a man appears named Pinch. Pinch listens to David before suggesting to him to meet a friend of his named Regina. Regina guides David on a journey to discover the 4 keys to Greatness. The 5 keys are simple to remember as they spell out GREAT: Giving Reason Engage Amazing and Tenacity. You will learn, along with and through David’s journeys, about how the 5 keys to greatness can help change you life for the better Although the book is an easy read and it will not take you long to get from start to finish, it is packed with information that is both valuable and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book – it can make your life better!
I met Ari in May 2024 at a professional medical services professional conference in which he was the keynote speaker to get our group of healthcare credentialers motivated to take chances, and live our best lives. Ari was engaging - and captivated our group with real-life stories of a traumatic grade school field trip and other vivid stories about grit and resilience. Ari then sat with me and others at our table, in which we exchanged stories about our own lives, hopes and dreams for us and our children and grandchildren. Ari is a man with humility, grace and purpose. I immediately purchased Ari's "The Little Book of Greatness" and devoured it in 4 days on my way back from Mexico after a family vacation. His words spoke to me - I need to do more. Ari has motivated me to seek new challenges, no matter how stiff or sore my old former military body might be on a given day - getting up and getting-at-it is the only choice. Ari has a gift to connect - and if his next book is anything like his The Little Book of Greatness, no one will be disappointed to read it. And, I finally started taking Yoga lessons and hope to be certified to teach by my 60th birthday -- thanks Ari!
This book is about helping you to see the greatness that lays deep inside you. No matter what you are going through, there is still hope for you. Because everybody has their moments in life when things just don't seem, or feel right. The past, the present, the future. This book teaches how focusing on the present, which is a gift that is powerful. And how not to focus on the past, or the future. Which will only confuse you into thinking otherwise. Because those are 2 things that you cannot change. Which will make it hard to move forward in life. So staying positive, being happy, staying the course, and you don't have to be perfect all the time. Just learn to do the best you can in everything that you do in life. A great book, and a great reading for everyone.. Peace
This self help book is based on 5 keys of greatness created by the author. The author explains the keys via a story. The protagonist is called David and he is at a low point in his life and he ends up meeting several people who explains these important 5 keys. Ultimately he learns how to improve his life and puts this in to practice. The keys of greatness are helpful and I can see how implenting them in my life would be beneficial. However, the overall approach of living in the moment and finding purpose etc is nothing new. The author provides some helpful factual information at the back of the book regarding the 5 keys. Yet, I feel it would have been a lot better if there were exercises/instructions accompanying this (instead of just blended in the story).
I really enjoyed this book. It follows the story of David who is struggling in life. David meets an old man, Pinch, who suggests to David he look for answers and introduces him to the 5 Keys to Greatness.
David is sent to see Regina who introduces him to the 5 Keyholders. We follow David's journey meeting the Keyholders and learn how we, as well as David, can implement these in our own lives.
I felt this was an enjoyable, easy to read self help book with a good, simple system which I enjoyed reading and learning about. I have tried one of the Keys which is like a mindfulness technique. Hopefully I can use some of the others in the future.
I was kindly gifted a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
In this book we follow David, a man who is overwhelmed and struggling with life when he meets Pinch an older man who tells him about The 5 Keys To Greatness and how they can transform his life. We then follow David as he embarks on his journey meeting Regina and the 5 keyholders who show him how he can use the 5 keys in his day to day life to change it for the better · I absolutely loved this book!! I loved how even though it was a fiction novel the messages within it can be taken and used by us all to live our lives in the best possible way and I have to say I will definitely be using what I learned from this book · Everyone should read this book, it's written with a relatable backstory that draws you in but teaches us how to take a new outlook on life 5⃣⭐
This book is nonfiction, and it is to help you personally. It is a personal growth book, and I can’t say how happy I am for reading this book. I took my time reading it because it teaches you so much information that you need to observe. It slowly leads you into the book by the situation of the protagonist. I think we can all relate with it being the lowest point individuals have. Then it takes you into this journey of finding the rest of the individuals who will help you unlock the 5 keys of greatness. This book is one of the books that you would like to revisit when things get difficult and you need some form of motivation. It reminds me of the richest man of Babylon.
This isn’t your typical self help book, though in essence that is what it is. The book is told in story form and it talks about a journey of a man, David, who goes from a very dark place. Taking slow steps, where he learns lessons via keys, he learns his own greatness.
Even if you aren’t a lover of the self help genre, this can be read as a story that will in parts resonate with most people at some level.
An insightful wee book. Well worth reading.
Many thanks to LoveBooksGroup and the author for the advanced reading copy.
This is a truly fascinating book about self discovery, personal growth and the unlocking of the potential we all hold within. Join Ari Gunzburg as he introduces us to the five keys of greatness. The author recommends reading the whole book before you set out on you own journey of self discovery. This is not your typical self help book, there is so much more to learn and this is a really solid read. Recommended as a book you would buy for yourself.
A little story leading into a life journey. There were plenty of moments that were insightful and provoked thoughts of life and were we should decide to let our passions, hopes and personal drive take us through our lives. Nicely done.
A so-so self help book. Pretty much everything in it has been said before. Nothing really new even the format of making it into a story to present the steps the author suggests you take. There is actually one that a series of movies are based on. I wasn't impressed.
The Little Book of Greatness is a book to help you live your best life and achieve your destiny.
The book starts with a story about a man called David who isn’t in a good place. He is introduced to the 5 keys of greatness which can be used on a daily basis to help you live your best life.
The 5 keys can be simplified as GREAT: G – Give R – Reason E – Engage A – Amazing T – Tenacity
On his journey David is introduced to each of the 5 keys by key holders who impart advice to him on what the key is and how it can be used to lead a good life. I think on some level everyone can relate to David and his story especially when you’re struggling, everything feels like it’s closing in on you and the burden of the world is on your shoulders. As David learns more about and puts the 5 keys into practice as the book progresses you notice small changes in David. By the time you reach the end of the book David is a completely different person to the one were first introduced to.
This was such a refreshing read. It reminded me very much of The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo which is one of my favourite books as it makes you really think. Definitely a book that I will be reading again!
I received a gifted copy of this book for an honest review.
I have read this book a few times as each time I get something different from it. Yes it has been said before but this is a different view. I have learnt a few new things but more importantly it helped me remember what I needed to focus on.
I was given an advance copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review which I have done so.
