Today is my wedding day. In a few breathless moments, I will be Mrs Alejandro Montoya.
He is the King of L.A, and everything a woman could want. Handsome, powerful, rich, and hotter than hell itself.
But I am not just any woman. I am Alana Carmichael and I’m only here to save my father. I will not bow to any king.
This is no fairy tale. This is my nightmare.
He is fierce and unyielding. I should hate him. But, the way he looks at me makes me feel more alive than I’ve ever felt before, and his touch sets my skin on fire.
And as I uncover the secrets of our pasts, I discover that monsters are not always what they seem. Sometimes, the real monsters look like ordinary men.
Fierce King is a forced marriage, dark mafia romance. It is book 1 in the L.A Ruthless series and features the Montoya crime family.
I'm a contemporary, dark romance author. I love to read and write about hot, filthy talking alphas that would burn the world down for the women they love.
I love chatting to readers about my books, or books in general, so please get in touch! You can follow me on Facebook and instagram as well as on here as Sadie Kincaid Author.
I couldn't bring myself to finish this. The writing was absolutely horrendous and extremely juvenile. There was only telling no showing and the dialogue was the cringiest thing I've read in a long time. Actually, this was the worst written book I've read in a long time. It read amateurish and wattpad. I don't know how it got that high average or if we all read the same book. The only plus is that it had indents.
Starts with an arranged marriage taking place. I kind of feel like I stepped into the middle of this book 😬… but it’s not some big mystery, which makes it easy to follow. Nutshell: She hates him but is hot for him / he hates her but is hot for her .. meets forced proximity of arranged marriage.
LOOK BUT DONT TOUCH
So, (ch3) the MMC abandons his wedding night and finds himself eyeball to puss with a prostitute. He looks, but he decides even he isn’t f’d up enough to fuck some random whore on his wedding night, even if it’s what his wife ain’t putting out. He’s Catholic, ya know. A lot of readers will take issue with safety here, but, it didn’t bother me. Anyhooha, my only issue is the dude referring to the prostitute’s wetness as “cream.” <<<—— purely personal, but I f’ing hate that term. Reminds me of my coffee, and I don’t want to visualize a woman’s puss and boots in my coffee. Just sayin.
FMC
Shocker, I know, but the FMC is annoying. She hates him. His body is magnificent. She hates him. His dick is huge. She hates him. He smells delicious. She hates him. She throbs for him. She hates him. He’s hotter than melted butter. She hates him.<—— It’s equal parts exhausting and boring.
Andddddd…. It’s a pattern with everything….
I swallowed as they drew nearer. What if she hated me? What if she was one of those mothers who never thought anyone was good enough for her son? Why the hell did I even care?
Yes, why do you?
Of course, the FMC isn’t the spoiled princess he assumes she is. She’s kind enough to play nice with his mom. She ditches the faux charity crew of Stepford Wives for an actual needy charity cause. Her favorite meal is a burger, not a salad.
Biggest problem: She oatmeal.
MMC
He’s what? A big, bad mafia king refined to play the part of a wealthy business man. He sounds like neither. He sounds like a middle-aged woman’s creation of such. His character’s voice and mannerisms sound like the author, not his proposed character.
If not for the words cock and fuck, the dialogue and characters profiles come off as barely YA. Very immature. Very one dimensional. Very bland. Very Disney’fied of the mafia.
PLOT
What plot? There isn’t one anywhere in sight by the time I DNF’d at 17%.
This is sold as hate to love. Problem: There’s no actual hate. There’s no reason to dislike each other. Neither know a thing about the other. While they both internal dialogue how much they dislike the other, there’s 1) no reasoning 2) their actions don’t match. They’re civil, respectful, even kind to each other all while internally reminding how much they dislike each other’s sexy asses or shouldn’t (FFS why?) actually give realness to the marriage.
It’s nonsense fluff for 17%.
Bottom Line:
What’s there to say. There’d actually have to be something happening here for me to have a damn opinion.
Here’s something to think about, though. As of today, this book has 1,750 RATINGS for a 3.89 average rating… yet, only 148 of those glowing ratings actually bothered to write a review. Somehow, this is listed as a #1 Kindle best seller. Tell me how such a book isn’t even worthy of more than 150 reviews 🤫🤥🤫🤥🤫
I normally don’t leave a rating unless I read at least half the book, but the 17% I read was more than enough to know this needs a total makeover… like replace every word other than he, she, it, & and.
I've just finished fierce king and what a book. This is dark mafia romance at its finest. Hot, steamy alpha male goodness, Alejandro was it for me. Alana agreed to marry Alejandro to help her father out. she didn't like Alejandro one bit but as time goes on he is not what she believes he is. Alejandro was everything I look for in a mafia leader, possessive, powerful, gorgeous and a master in the bedroom. I loved this book and read it in one day. It was such a good plot and Alejandro and Alana were everything.
No plot. Its just two human who are horny 24/7😀and the HERO IS SO SEXIST but if you're bored and don't want to watch porn, but wants to read it THEN READ THAT!!! just click a random chapter and they'll be fucking HAHAHAHAHA....the fucking isn't even that good.
If I could give this book more stars I would... The characters and plot had me hooked from the beginning, it was so good in fact I read it in a day because I couldn't out it down. I loved how sassy Alana was and how hot and masterful Alexandria was . A true sex god.
I read the blurb for this…and then I skimmed the “bad” reviews and thought….but it sounds so good 😩😩😩😩
I decided to follow my instinct and read it anyway…and honestly a lot of the components that other readers complained about happened to be the bits I absolutely loved.
So it really comes down to “to each their own”.
But if you generally love an alpha-possessive hero, smut on smut on smut, clever dirty talk in different languages and a heroine that isn’t a push over but also doesn’t just defy for the sake of defying, then read this. It’s delicious!
This book started in the middle of some great story. I was personally filling in missing plots in this story. That’s the only way I kept on reading. Smut was decent and all but the plot was so lackluster. It has potential.
Sadie has delivered dark mafia romance writing at its best. Hot alpha A hole, strong, beautiful FMC and a plot that grips you, Alana and Alejandro are everything.
Alana agrees to an arranged marriage out of loyalty to her father, it just happens that Alejandro is not the man she evisages him to be. He is hot AF, possessive, powerful and master in the bedroom. I absolutely loved the plot, their journey and the steam.
Wow what can I say about Fierce King.. I managed to read this book in a day as I literally couldn't put it down, the 2 main characters are amazing and so is the storyline. Alejandro is definitely one of the hottest Mafia Bosses I have ever read about, you will certainly enjoy this book! Thank you Sadie for another amazing book.
Alana is forced in to marriage to Alejandro Montoya ,the heir of Montoya corporation they call him the king of LA she is saving her father from a prison sentence ,Alejandro thinks he is marrying a spoilt and pampered woman he call her princess .Alana thinks she is marrying the devil himself , she thinks her new home now a prison as she cannot go anywhere without a bodyguard . but he can see she is sad . so he fixes her up with the rich ladies fundraising but to them its just a drink day and they not nice . so she see s a women s shelter and spends her time helping them unbeknown to Alejandro who still thinks she the spoilt princess she helps and befriends a young girl called Lucy . Alana is so self -conscious of her figure , but Alejandro loves everything about her body . they become to tolerate each other and so much more and she so gets through the Knickers . but there is such a good storyline as you will see someone has lied betrayed and deceived this author has accelerated her self on this one such a very talented writer i so cannot wait for book two what a cliffhanger . so recommend this authors books
Alana and Alex are all sorts of hot firey emotions! This book is my secret fantasy life….married off against my will to a high ranking “mob” guy. There are so many things in the way, the odds are totally stacked against them….what is going to win? Love or logic?
Be Still my beating heart…. I’m still swooning over Alejandro Montoya, he is going to steal your hearts and live in your memories as one of the best book boyfriends ever!!!!! What a story!!! This is now one of my favorite ever reads!
Alejandro is so much more than Heir to The Montoya Corporation, he’s a ruthless powerful business man that’s not to be messed with, he doesn’t do feelings! ….Ever!!!! Well not until Alana becomes his Wife. I loved Alana….she’s no wishy washy Wife! Yes she may be in a situation that she was forced into, but it doesn’t change her passion or her caring nature at all. The chemistry between both Alejandro and Alana is electrifying!!!!! He might be in control but she holds his heart. This book was hard to put down, I was totally engaged the whole time AND that ending has me asking all sorts of questions !!!! Brilliant read!!!! I can’t wait to dive into book 2.
I normally have no problem with sexy steamy spice, but please can I have a crumb of plot. It also read like a horny teenager who just discovered every dirty word imaginable and rolled with it.
Alejandro Montoya is the Fierce King of LA the heir to the corporation. Alana Carmichael is going to be his new wife, this may look like a fairy tale wedding but it's one big nightmare for Alana to keep her father out of prison for life she had no choice in this arranged marriage and is whisked away before she even said "I Do" to the big mansion in the hills of Bel Air this is not how she dreamed of a married life. Hugo is her personal bodyguard and takes her anywhere she wants to go and she finds herself at a mother and children refuse helping out all she can. The chemistry between this couple builds up over time with trust for one another and he find Alana is the virgin bride Alejandro is going to break her his own princesa and she will never want to leave his bed again. Wow what a story, that has everything you could ever hope for you just cannot help but fall in love this with couple, the sex is dynamic, with a good story line as they find out they have more in common that they learn with each other. this book will open your eyes and bring so much pleasure and with a slap bang ending I just cannot wait for book two now. 5 stars from me
“…he snarled at me, his teeth bared like some sort of rabid dog.”
Rabid DOG? Nah lol. This was like the third page. ————
Before we get into this, I will leave this quote:
“A GOOD WRITER DOESN’T TELL YOU ITS RAINING…BUT RATHER MAKES YOU FEEL WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE RAINED UPON….”
Here is my review per the notes I took as I struggled through this one:
…This author doesn’t let things simmer into what they are gonna be or should be but rather states these things abruptly, leaving the readers detached from our heroine’s reactions. So she’s saying his cologne took her aback and made her feel good but none of her descript reactions supported just how off kilter she feels in reaction him. The author writes it, but lack of proper descriptions disables readers from feeling it or have a sense of feeling it.
Ah! It’s like the author writes the action but never divulges into the emotions that may cause the action. So, as a reader, you just gotta trust she’s affected but you’ll never be able to actually feel it, how the heroine feels it.
*
“Despite Alana being my wife in name alone, for some inexplicable reason, I couldn’t bring myself to cheat on her on our wedding night. I threw my empty glass at the wall and watched as it shattered into pieces.
Damn my catholic upbringing!
And fuck Alana Carmichael!”
- Alejandro
Shall we continue?
He growls and shouts unnecessarily which leads me to question if our author actually imagined what the scenes she creates look like? Because half the time, how our characters are depicted to say a line, does not match the feeling of the scene or the pre developed emotions thrumming the scene along. You growl when you’re frustrated, as a sexual thing, annoyed- something. Nothing that makes sense and has already been established leads to this man growling. It just comes off as weird and as if you just heard that growling men are a thing in erotic novels so you make your male protagonist growl for any nonsense that happens or doesn’t happen or make sense. Like he’s a damn werewolf or something.
Or a… “rabid dog” lol. Full circle.
It’s so convenient and weird to have both of their mothers unknowing of their sham of a marriage. Like…why are these two women portrayed as these “feeble” things that can’t understand business marriages? If 25 year Alana can understand it, then at least one of those grown ass women could as well. And if not even one of those grown women could understand it, then maybe the premise really makes no type of sense.
This book loves to tells us what’s happening but refuses to show us! No descriptive language, no painting of a scene, therefore, you’ll never get embedded into the book. It’s like listening to a boring person talk about something that happened to them. “Yeah, I hear ya, it sounds like it would be a great time, I’ll just have to take your word for it I guess.” Is my response to everything Alana or Alejandro “feels”.
Instead of showing us their interaction as they are pretending to be a couple and outrageously flirting with each other, our author just tells us that happened. No dialogue, just a paragraph saying, “Yup, we did this.” And what’s worst is this is the first time these two have supposedly acted romantic with each other, even if it is an act. You would think that would warrant an actual scene rather than just a drive by, half paragraph, surmising. This is said paragraph:
“A few hours later, the three of us were sitting on the patio. We’d eaten a beautiful lunch and Maria had regaled me with dozens of stories of Alejandro as a child. He had rolled his eyes throughout and admonished her for the more embarrassing ones, but she had simply laughed and told him not to be so grumpy. I saw a completely different side to him when she was around, and it was a side of him I could learn to like. For our part, Alejandro and I had played the adoring couple, and I took the opportunity to flirt outrageously with him every chance I got.”
Yup, that’s all we get.
The only thing entertaining is the possibility of a love triangle curtesy of ✨Hugo✨ and I’m sorry I couldn’t stick around to find out. It was just too hard to get through this book. ————-
Our author is truly writing Alana in the “I’m not like other girls” fashion and it sickens me lol. Let’s investigate!
“I made my way to the dining room and wondered if I was going to regret my decision to eat dinner with my new wife, and whether I would regret even more allowing her to choose the meal. I imagined some pretentious dish sitting on my plate when I got into the room.” - Alejandro
Spoiler: She asked the cook to make burger and fries! She’s not like all the other girls.
Let’s continue!
“I’d left Alana my credit card that morning, and while I’d told her that I didn’t care how much of my money she spent, I did want to know exactly what I might be walking into later. I dreaded to think what awful, tacky shit this New York princess would have bought to make my tasteful villa more like home to her?
‘How much of my money did she spend?’“
-Alejandro
Spoiler: She spent $97
How frugal of this Manhattan city girl!
“I shook my head. Of course it was. I bet she’d have everything custom made – no shop bought shit for a spoiled princess. I’d bet she was online right now ordering all kinds of sparkly crap!”
Spoiler Alert: What’d she buy?
Two bottles of ketchup. A box of English breakfast tea. Four bags of gummy worms. Two picture frames. Two candles. Two bottles of bubble bath and an anti-allergen pillow.’
How frugal of this Manhattan city girl! The ketchup gets me…lol, as if you don’t have a whole cook. But alas…
She’s not like other girls!
“A few seconds later, the door opened and she walked out. I’d been interested to see what her interpretation of what sexy would look like and wondered if she’d dress in some little pink, sparkly number. But she had chosen an understated black dress.” - Alejandro
What is she not like?
Other girls!
This book will never be finished. The writing is not good, the premise, story, or characters- it just wasn’t good. Alana is a good person, I like at least that about her. But I’m unable to fall into that because, even if it’s not from Alana’s perspective, the author is truly overdoing it with trying to depict Alana like “she’s not other girls” through Alejandro’s perspective. It ruins it. Like, we don’t need comparison for her to be a wonderful person that Alejandro didn’t expect. But alas, instead of showing us through beautiful language, plot and writing, that author finds the basic-est way to “prove” that Alana isn’t…
LIKE OTHER GIRLS!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
enemies to lovers???? where???? can we make it illegal for authors to claim this without checking with me first?! like, not liking each other does not equate to enemies… (and can we pls stop painting the mmc to be some kind of monster but then show us exactly 0 proof of him being said monster? like he must have called himself that a hundred times but then proceeded to be extremely sweet and not monstrous at all?)
anyways, this cover is so embarrassing 😭 why do authors keep doing this to me??? it’s like they’re trying to get back at me for something i did to them in a past life 😭😩
i hate to admit that even with the bad writing, the cringy characters, the boring plot, the lack of chemistry, and the embarrassing cover, i still managed to enjoy this book /: i’m starting to think that i’m the problem.
I will give it 1 star because I can’t give 0. I didn’t finish the book, I tried but it was impossible. I’m Spanish so you could imagine how much excited and surprised I was when I read that one of the main characters was Spanish. Only one thing, if you are gonna write about some other culture please do a research because as Spanish I felt even bad because of this. Alejandro Spanish talk is a big NO. It was absolutely cringed how EVERY time they were having sex he repeated again and again the word "concha" as a translation of pussy. NO. We Spanish people don’t use concha as pussy. Maybe in Argentina but in Spain no. That word was so fucking turn off. Concha in Spain's Spanish means seashell!!!!
Just! Wow!! Alejandro Montoya is a hot, sexy, alpha monster, but does he have a heart..? A fantastic story, with characters that have soul and emotion, that isn't just all about the hot sexy, steaminess, although there is that in abundance too!!! Just brilliant and I can't wait for what more is to come!
I couldn’t put this book down. Read it in a day, I was in love with both characters and how the interacted with one another and how the heroin wasn’t some push over. There is an HEA however it is left with a cliffhanger that I’m dying to know the answer to lol.
So I read this book in a day. The story was engaging as were the characters. At the end, as the story starts to wrap up, is a twist that I didn't see coming. Alpha hotness and a heroine that doesn't spend her days spending money but putting her time to good use made me like the story even better.
I was an ARC reviewer for the book Fierce King by author Sadie Kincaid. My review is based on my own opinions.
In full disclosure this is the first book I have read by Sadie Kincaid.
Alana Carmichael is bound to marry Alejandro Montoya, LA's Underworld King. She married him in order to keep her father out of jail. She would give birth to Alejandro's heir and learn to adapt to her new existence.
Alejandro is a violent criminal who dominates the Underworld and he marries Alana for a business deal, his father forces him into.
Simple... follow Alejandro's rules or Alana faces punishment.
Okay, let me break it down for you.... I LOVED IT. Totally hooked.
I felt like I was seeing a movie unfold since the characters were believable and strong. Alejandro became an Underworld King and his possessiveness and brutality in ruling, not only in business but also in his marriage, made him a force to reckon with. No one stands up to Alejandro, the powerful Kingpin.
I liked how despite her strong will, Alana remained loyal to her family, feeling she was helping her father. Circumstances change, and she must choose between believing her father and believing her husband. She is caring, compassionate, has a strong backbone and a heart of gold.
It's a book with a lot of steamy sex and the sex scenes were hot. Perhaps a little too much for some.
It does end in a cliffhanger and I was annoyed and depressed when it finished. I havent read a good Mafia/Dark Romance book in awhile and I can't wait for more.
You know you have read a great book when it is all that you think about..... even hours after reading it.
Highly recommended this author who is true to her craft and support this book. 6/5**
