Percy Jackson and the Olympians #4.5

Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades

Rate this book
The goddess Persephone has summoned Percy, Thalia, and Nico to the Underworld in order to retrieve Hades' powerful sword before it falls into the wrong hands. Flip the book over for lots more ancient Greek fun with Terry Deary's 'Groovy Greeks' - it's history with the nasty bits left in!"

Note: this edition is now out of print, but you can still find this story in The Demigod Files.

Olympian Triumvirate.

Percy Jackson, Thalia and Nico are summoned to the Underworld in hopes of recovering the stolen Sword of Hades, a weapon that could potentially turn the tides of the incoming war, especially if it reaches the hands of the evil Kronos.

This was an entertaining little short story. It was great to see Thalia and Nico again, however briefly. The three snarky demigods making a great team and fighting back to back protecting each other. An action packed adventure with fights against many monsters, and the appearance of some gods like Hades and Persephone; and some old and new antagonists

This short story is part of 4.5 The Demigod Files.

This was just okay. I don’t tend to like things set in the Underworld, and it felt a bit convoluted in the beginning with where they were supposed to go and who they were supposed to seek out.

After I finished The Son of Neptune, my last obsession has been Percy Jackson. And I crave for more of him. So when I saw this one, I didn't waste time.

The Sword of Hades was a short read, as it is intended to be a short story. It's not nearly as thrilling as the others in the first and second series. The writing seemed very basic and kind of rushed/not edited.

I still liked it, though. I love everything that's associated with Percy. In this novelette we were able to have a glimpse of our hero's life before the great war against the titans. That's what I look for. A bit of their normal life. When they're out of camp and not in major quests. How they try to blend in with the people.

In there we could see how they can be randomly summoned by the gods/goddesses to run some errands, or aid them in their own problems. And now I'm starting to hate the gods/goddesses. It seems like what all they do is sit around on their thrones, watch the demigods fix their personal troubles, see them die. That's very selfish of them.

Anyway, I give this 3 stars. It didn't impress me. But I wasn't disappointed either. Fair enough.

Omg Percy and Thalia and NICO!!! It was so fun to see the big three kids working and fighting together. Obviously, we see a lot of that in the Heroes of Olympus, but not with the original three (this is a Grace siblings fan account). How special!

I once again cannot believe it took me over a decade to read these novellas.

And did I really just FINALLY find out how Percy met Bob the Titan?? Shedding tears over here.

I would trade any of my other books just to complete the Percy Jackson & the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus series. That's how much I love this particular series by Rick Riordan. So when I saw this book, Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades, I literally screamed and fangirled over it while I'm at a book store. Given that, it cost me only half of the original price and I didn't even know that Percy Jackson and the Olympians # 4.5 exists.

I am not gonna spoil you everything because I hate spoilers. The story line is interesting even though it's shorter than the original series. It particularly caught my attention because the main characters on the story are my three favorite demigods. Percy, Nico and Thalia. THE BIG THREE. Given that the story took place in the Underworld, added more enticement on the plot. And also I liked how it ended with a revelation about the stolen sword of Hades. It was a quick and enjoyable read.

This book was published in Britain and is hard to find new in the U.S. I sent for a used copy from England before I had read the The Demigod Files which also contains the short story Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades. This edition does contains a humorous report card from Chiron and Dionysus on Percy's summer camp activities that is not included in The Demigod Files, but the report card is one only page long. The second half of the book is called "Horrible Histories Groovy Greeks" and is a kid friendly version of Greek mythology. Had I read The Demigod Files prior to placing my order, I probably would not have sent for this edition.

I am a HUGE Percy Jackson fan. I just LOVE the series and Rick with all my heart. As a result, when I heard about this book, I just HAD TO read it. But I am sorry to say this book disappointed me. Immensely.

The story line is an interesting one, that takes place in the Underworld. Persephone summons Percy, Thalia and Nico to help find Hades's sword that is built with a Death's key in the hilt (hope I got the term right :P) This key can lock and unlock death (I know! Right!) and also, theoretically, Tartarus. So it is imperious that Percy and gang get the sword back. They are given a potted carnation by Persephone that will help them catch the thief and if all it petals fall off, it means the thief has fled, all hopes lost (poor flower.... I would catch the thief just to save it LOLs). So Percy, Thalia and Nico set off with their flowery compass to catch the thief. And needless to say, they do so just at the right moment.

With ittie-bitties about Sisyphus, Melinoe and the river Lithe, this 5-chapter story has great potential but (I never thought I'd have to say this for a Rick book) it doesn't live up to it. Essentially it reads more like a fanfiction story than the author's original work. So, yeah. Disappointment overload.

So my rating would be: 2 Stars

P.S.: I understand I might be a little biased in my rating. You see, if I didn't know how well Rick really writes, I would have given this one 3 stars. But since I do know that Rick's writing is awesomeness personified I justify 2 stars to be apt.

This was fine. Not great, not awful, just okay.

A short story that fits itself into the series before the final book, this didn't add anything much to the overall plot. It was still lighthearted and a fun read, though.

Short, fun novella in which we join Percy, Thalia and Nico (the children of the Big Three) sent by Persephone, Queen of the Underworld, in a quest to retrieve Hades’ sword for the war to come. It doesn’t add much to the story, but I will read anything if that means I can join Percy and the other demigods in their quests and keep knowing more about the world they live in, in which myths are forever alive and he keeps moving forward, discovering new abilities and powers, and living up to the ‘hero’ title he rightfully earns with every adventure. I only missed Annabeth in this one, but as she’s Athena’s daughter, Persephone didn’t summon her, she only called the most powerful demigods.

The book is only four chapters long, I read it in little more than an hour, and just as I feel with every Percy Jackson story, I didn’t want it to end. Awesome read!

It definitely took me a while to find these novellas but that mostly because I totally forgot about them. But when I signed up for like so many freaking reading challenges for this year I knew I had to find the novellas for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.

I really enjoyed Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades because I got more of Percy. I was sad to finish off this series and I haven't really wanted to finish the spin off series yet because that I would be even more sad. So yes, happiness for finding this book because I love the shit out of Percy and I also missed Thalia and Nico.

Plus, Hades and Persephone were cool and I wanted to know more about this missing sword. I loved the action and adventure that these three demi-gods when on. It was short lived though because novella's always leave me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next novella and see what else Percy has to do for these lazy gods.

Note to self- read this before you read the 5th book. it was my blunder. but this kind of makes sense to the events leading to the start of book 5.

Also really dislike the Persephone of this world. she's selfish, annoying and did i mention annoying?? (Though, she is better than LORE OLYMPUS Persephone...that whack-ass story.) The best version of her would be THE GODDES GIRLS-peak storyline and plot for the girlies.
