I, Braxton Fawn, am the luckiest girl alive.

Or so the world keeps telling me.

Every so often, gods walk the earth. This time they came as musicians. When Bound loses its lead guitarist, yours truly is chosen to fill his shoes. From dive bars to the big stage, my instant claim to fame is nothing short of a fairytale. The only problem?

My new bandmates.

Jaded, gorgeous, and ridiculously talented--they're determined to turn my dream into a nightmare. It's no secret I wasn't their first choice. I wasn't even their last. The label wants a new image, Bound wants me gone, but I've got my own agenda.
To succeed I have to survive a world tour, public scrutiny, and idols turned enemies. But the biggest threat of all isn't a meticulous front man, a narcissistic bassist, and a drummer with too many secrets.

It's me.

Somehow, I must resist the temptation of Houston Morrow, Loren James, and Jericho Noble.

It seemed easy enough when I boarded their tour bus, but it only took one city for the lines we'd drawn to blur.

Only ninety-nine more to go.

Lilac is a reverse harem and standalone suitable for ages 18+.

“Eat your heart out, dick bag.”

is there anything better than reading a fully grown man, fuelled by trauma, alcoholism and daddy issues relentlessly bully a woman bcos she merely exists??

yes there is.

reading multiple grown men bully said woman for her mere existence.

but firstly: the way Stepbrothers' Darling wishes it was this book. like you’re telling me Blake... Blair... Blakley... whatever the fuck her crusty arse was called, wasn’t a BTEC version of Braxton?? while our trio of rockstars weren’t awfully replicated in the form of Blake/Blair/Blakley’s cohort of stepbrothers??? but i digress... just wanted to point that out👀

i loved the slight twist on the rockstar romance here by having Braxton, our heroine, become part of the band as a member. instead of being a roadie, a personal assistant, a sober companion... basically any role where she’s professionally inferior to the hero(es). she’s normally the lackey, at the beck and call of several arrogant, petulant rockstars and the dynamic isn’t always fun.

but Braxton was an equal to our three heroes, even if they didn’t initially see that, and it’s why this book stands out for sure.

✨this lil old review is riddled with spoilers just as i imagine Loren is riddled with a variation of venereal diseases... so beware✨

(and i am also aware of my own hypocrisy since this book should be everything i despise in a romance... you saw those four stars? no you fucking didn’t.)

Braxton Fawn (h):

Braxton was just the right amount of snarky, determined and bitchy with a backbone of steel. she wasn’t a caricature *cough* Blake/Blair/Blakley *cough* of the edgy bad girl decked in fishnet tights, combat boots and eyeliner... mind you, she still was decked out in the typical Effy Stonem attire but she was by no means overly cocky and obnoxious which can occur with this type of heroine— rather than being a fun badass, the caricature ends up being overly in your face, which is just irritating and stifling.

Braxton still flounders and fumbles. she wears a smirk but it often slips and her vulnerabilities are stark and fierce. she would have the trio by their throats one minute, while being their little plaything the next. the dynamic between her and guys was forever changing— she didn’t always have the upper hand, and by doing so, the author explored her flaws, limits and imperfections.

but she also had the three of them by the balls. any time they were dicks (which was legit all the fucking time), she never cowered. she stood up for herself in a witty and articulate way. she didn’t throw barbs or insults, just facts and intelligence. she was sharp and quick, and i found it so endearing.

“You behave like a boy who’s just been told he has to play nice with girls. You trample, growl, and puff out your chest just to show me who’s in charge. It’s been three months, Houston. I’m still not convinced, but I finally know the reason why. I’ve been asking for your respect when I should have told you that you haven’t even begun to earn mine.”

the moment she declared she wasn’t a punching bag for the three of them i was a goner for Braxton Fawn. a good heroine who knows her own worth and respects herself is key for me to love a book... i know, the bar is in hell. but heroines like Braxton are true unicorns.

description

“Tell me you’re not interested,” he challenged. Behind the cocky assurance, I could see the small glimmer of hope that I’d say yes.
“In catching a venereal disease? Not a chance.”

whenever she put one of them in her place, mainly Loren, i revelled in the shit she said to him bcos that man deserved every nasty thing thrown at him🥰 that being said, i wish she’d held him accountable more in the beginning for some of the shit he pulled – especially bcos he rarely showed any remorse. he’d just shrug his shoulders and say stuff along the lines of “it’s who i am” ...well who you are needs a lobotomy ASAP bro.

but she makes him suffer enough later lmaoooo. she makes them all suffer, but Lo in particular.

description

also this bitch seriously locks herself in their bathroom and gets off with Houston, Loren and Jericho all on the other side of the door, completely none the wiser. she’s there having the time of her life while they all just sit and wait for her like

description

...but then i was quickly suspicious bcos she kept mentioning a taste of cherries in her mouth whenever she was in close proximity of the guys. and i deduced she was a sex addict. so i felt bad for laughing😭

although her sex addiction was nowhere near explored to the extent i expected. it was even suggested by the heroes that she wasn’t a sex addict... which was a weird choice. but i truly don’t know since her addiction nor her trauma were explored enough. just as we’d get down to the nitty gritty parts, the plot moved on and we didn’t delve deep into the god-awful shit Brax had to experience as a teen.

Houston Morrow (H):

the meticulous rock god and bland as fuck. i think he was supposed for be the strong, mysterious alpha but instead he was just boring. even when he threatened to m u r d e r Braxton, i was yawning.

at least Loren was entertaining despite being a dick, while Rich was all soft and endearing. Houston was just blurgh. he was a boring dick. if you’re gonna be a knob ten at least have some flare, you know?? give me some ✨spice✨ a lil ✨zest ✨ something! he felt like the bland brooding hero of a high school bully romance who has the same three ominously threatening taglines on rotation in his brain while proceeding to be anything but threatening.

and i don’t even know what Braxton saw in him. Loren?! hell yeah. Jericho?! hell yes on steroids. but Houston? he was about as interesting as having a conversation with a brick wall.

while his trauma was dumped on us in the final few chapters and it came out of nowhere. you had 500 pages beforehand to give us his background, and you choose now to flesh him out beyond a one dimensional door knob?? with like 30 pages left??

Loren James (H):

this man’s blatant unhinged energy had me cackling. the lack of fucks he had to give. the lack of self-awareness. the lack of restraint.

I sighed as my shoulders deflated. “Was there a time when you ever gave a fuck?” I sounded utterly drained.
“Once.” I turned just enough to catch the faraway look in his eyes. “It was a waste of time, so I wouldn’t recommend it.”

the moment he texted Braxton asking what colour her panties were, i knew he was gonna guarantee me some good laughs. he was just such a horny, thirsty bitch. and you know what? i respected the hustle.

he barely knew her, texting her how horny he was bcos of her, while telling the others he called dibs💀 like his sole personality trait was just being horny, for fuck sake.

Whirling on him, I shoved him back. “How did your cum get on Braxton’s panties?”
“As much as I wish it was what you think, it’s not, so chill. I used them last night.”
“You used them,” I echoed. I waited for him to explain.
Loren’s face balled up in irritation. “I beat my dick and nutted in them, bro. You want a fucking play-by-play?”

he was also cliche and annoying as fuck in the beginning— he definitely grew on me in the second half... basically when Brax had him by the balls and he was her lil bitch. but he’d crack some wise-ass joke to taunt Braxton and really thought he ate.

description

his obsession with whether Braxton was a virgin or not was so nauseating. his sexism continuously jumped out. and then when he found out about Braxton’s sex addiction, he low-key fetishised it, saying “nothing sounded sweeter” then Braxton being a “nympho”🥴 and then didn’t believe she had a sex addiction... i– what??

he was just a fucking idiot. sometimes it was the best thing ever bcos it was top-tier comedy. then other times he just made my brain wanna commit suicide.

my fave parts of this was whenever he was suffering.

Jericho “Rich” Noble (H):

the way this man is so fine. so scrumdiddlyumptious.

sweet, broken lil Jericho. i will protect this man with my life 🔪 any disrespect to my blushing soft boi will require retribution.

the observer. the do-gooder. the people-pleaser but oh so lovely. while also rocking the whole “dark and mysterious” vibe. he was a little enigma wrapped in a quiet dominance that was just so sexy lmaooo. like i can’t pretend im not his whore now. Jericho Noble can call me his good girl any day of the week😌

description

i feel like he had the purest love for Braxton. Houston (the amount of times i have started to write Memphis with his name😭) just wanted to own her. while Lo had this wild obsession with her. Jericho was just all-around superior. Lo and Memphis really wished they were him.

the Jekyll and Hyde nature of this man was 😏 one minute he was all 🥺☺️ then he was all 🥵🤪 there’s a reason my soft boi had the biggest dick. it’s canon, too. Ms. Fawn said so herself: “He talked the least shit, so it made sense that he had the biggest dick.”

it’s always the humble quiet ones.

it was fucking golden watching Houston and Loren react to Jericho turning into a full dominating alpha since they always make fun of him for being too soft and sweet. the two of them were just like 👁👄👁 after realising they both ain’t shit in comparison to this man. and also how he had the bigger dick.

as he should.

the romance:

Alexa, okay 🧚✨Toxic✨🧚 by Britney Spears!!

i don’t think i have read a RH ripe with this much jealousy. it provided so much messiness that i couldn’t put this down. the transition into the relationship between the four of them really wasn’t easy— ive read a few RH where the group just settle into a really easy dynamic all too quickly and it makes everything so damn boring.

at least with Jericho, Loren and Houston they kept things interesting. their friendship was already volatile as fuck, so adding their whirlwind of feelings for Brax into the mix just upped the angst.

”You staked your claim with an arrow through our hearts, and now you’re going to let us bleed.”

i loved them as a four... well actually. i preferred the trio of Brax, Jericho and Lo. they were truly unmatched. bcos that sex scene at Houston’s grandmothers house🤌🏻 *chef’s kiss*

because...

i can’t not mention the queerness of this book. first Rich and Loren??! i caught the vibe they’d fucked at some point. then finding out Lo had a crush on Rich back in the day?! wish they’d given us more of that bcos it was alluded in the last few chapters that there could be romantic potential between Rich and Lo, and i can totally see it.

then the DP scene with Brax, Rich and Houston... the way Houston and Rich were low-key more into dominating each other than Brax💀 i mean, Houston demanding “fucking give it to me Noble” was probably the most interesting thing he’d done or said the entire book.

the friendships:

No matter how much Houston and Rich hurt me, I’d keep coming back for more. The three of us were toxic as fuck, together and apart, but we were all we had.

i always prefer when the heroes of a RH have a history together before they all swoop in on the heroine. there’s an existing bond there between them that’s just as important as their bond with the heroine.

but these three were falling apart— on the brink of collapse, these three life-long best friends were hanging on by the skin of their teeth with Braxton’s arrival either making or breaking them. they wanted to make each other bleed. they trash rooms as they fought. flashing their teeth and throwing barbs at one another that cut deep. it made for an even more enthralling dynamic.

Five years ago, I would have jumped off a cliff, confident that my best friends would magically sprout wings and catch me before I fell. Now I wouldn’t so much as cross the street without my own two eyes to guide me. Loren would probably push me in front of a bus just because it’s Tuesday.

i loved the second half of the book when their friendship began to heal itself. seeing their true brotherhood without all of the hatred was really sweet and fun. they would ruin themselves for each other, it was raw and damaged, dirty and ugly. but in the end they did everything they could to fix the broken pieces of themselves and each other... with the help of their dark rebel, Braxton.

the book was just pure entertainment. i had a blast reading this. i had so much to do today but put it all on pause to read this lol. it’s definitely my new fave RH romance along with my OG Sunshine and Bullets. can’t forget Gavriel Moretti. him and Jericho can ruin my life any day.

so to summarise:

Jericho Noble if you read this im free on Thursday night and would like to hang out. Please respond to this and then hang out with me on Thursday night when I’m free.

'LILAC' Is a full length reverse harem romance book by B.B. Reid..

I wasn't too sure what to expect going into this as its the first time this author has ventured into the reverse harem world, so on tippy toes in I went, but when it comes to this author I will read it. Expect the unexpected, expect to be surprised, expect to fall in love. With not one but all four characters. The rock genre used to be my jam, one I'd one click before all others, so my anticipation levels were out of this world waiting for this to land on my kindle. Day made once it did. Until I looked at the sheer size of the pages and I literally *gulped*

Meet the gorgeous men which make up the band 'BOUND' Loren (fun loving and sweet), Jericho (the one you could lean on) & Houston (broody and controlling) and our feisty sassy heroine Braxton, who you will absolutely adore. The hunt had been on for a new band member to join the ranks, with a name of Braxton imagine these boys surprise when a girl walks in claiming her place in the band as their newly appointed guitarist.

Weeks and many gruelling hours these boys put her through the paces, none too happy that she's joined their band, they were literally A-holes towards her as they made her jump through many hoops preparing her for the tour of a life time.

Lines become blurred, many limbs and arms become entangled, hearts and souls are on the line. Twists and turns which left me gasping.

Lay your inhibitions as the door as they travel on tour, it's panty wetting, it's sizzling pages, and combusting ovaries as this author set up the perfect love fest.

This was a tad too slow moving for me, especially in the beginning, as I found myself getting distracted a few times too many, though it does start to slowly pick up as you near the half way mark. I personally don't think it needed to be as long as it was, but that's just my opinion.

❥ This book is pink and purple sunsets, blue skies full of fluffy clouds. It’s kissing in the rain. It’s summer days. It’s nights on the front porch with sweet tea (I’m a southern girl). This book is butterflies taking flight! —It’s a field of Lilacs.

“Lilac. Love smells like lilac. Love is lilac.”

❥ and i love this book. now was everything about this book ALL RAINBOWS AND SUNSHINE like I’m making it out to be? No. But that’s exactly how I feel about this book!! Yes, this book touches on dark topics and subject matter. But I’m speaking on how I feel, how I felt while reading this. —and my experience was that I was living in Technicolor!
This was everything you want a rockstar romance to be. I feel like I just did a year long tour, one I didn’t want to end!
Perfection. Perfection. Perfection

So let's start with the fact that this book was far too long and now that I've found out it's 558 pages !!! I understood why! Who needs such a length of book about a bunch of hormonal youngsters raging in a pool of dramas?

Braxton Faun is a 22-year-old girl who gets the big chance of her life when she is called to audition to be the new guitarist of the rock band "Bound" after their guitarist died under mysterious circumstances. The band is going out in 3 months on a 1 year tour around the US and Europe and they must be ready.
Would you think that for an audition like this you have to come with a guitar? well no .Braxton who comes to the meeting and stutters in fear does indeed accept the role of her life.
The three members of the band, the founders of the brand, are not at all satisfied with the matter and are determined to make Braxton a difficult life. Why ? No one knows. Is it because they think she's not playing well enough? Naaa, she's virtuoso on the strings. Is it because she's unprofessional and lazy? Naaa that's not true either - she gets up every morning at 6 and makes her way to the rehearsal room and practices every day for 9 hours diligently.
Is it because she's a girl and she has tits and ass and once they saw her they felt like they were attracted to her insanely? Yeah ... probably that's it. Total justified reason.
*** From this point there are some spoilers that in my opinion will not spoil anything but at your own risk, whoever is planning to read.

Three months of preparations pass them by pleasantly while insults, slamming doors, sleazy flirtations of the band members and nerves of all present (including me) and they finally begin the tour. They spend the journey on the band's humble bus - a bus with a living room, a kitchen, a room with bunk beds, another room with a double bed (for groupies), a shower room , and also, yes, room for a driver.
While performances that are barely noticeable (where is the adrenaline? The excitement? The vibe of the audience? The lights? - nothing !! There could just as well have been a bunch of accountants)
Braxton, Houston, Lauren and Jericho form, let's call it a relationship, made up of an endless cycle of lies, tantrums and outbursts, silly power games, flattery, reconciliation, sex, and so on × 3 , Mind You, because each band member has their own story . Later on, the plot "develops" in such an artificial, irrational and completely scattered way. We have - crazy exes , Braxton's little sister whose parents are forcing her to get married (in one scene Braxton gets a phone call that her sister is in the hospital and she immediately sets off to get to her. All three friends join her while canceling scheduled shows! "Fuck the tour" they say. "Braxton is more important" . Yes, of course. Very professional and very logical ....)
And to make it more interesting we also have Lauren's domineering father and Houston's tragic past. It felt a bit like the writer was doing a brainstorming session and all the ideas end up going into the story.
A little about the characters:
An attempt is made to create interesting and mysterious characters. In practice, very stereotypical figures were obtained.
Houston -lead singer, a 28-year-old guy, is the supposedly responsible adult. He is always grumpy, yelling at Braxton, threatening her, throwing her off the bus, commenting on her performance and in short making her life bitter. Braxton is not a weak woman, and with the help of power struggles and her super power that is between her legs, the magic vagina, she eventually subdues him, until he straightens up.
Lauren - The band's bassist is the light-hearted, beautiful blond guy. Always with a joke, always flirting, always the trouble maker of the guys.
Lauren grew up with a teaspoon of gold in his mouth and used to always getting everything he wanted.
Braxton teaches him what patience is and after a few more tantrums and a few more games, he too discovers the way to the Promised Land between her legs.
The drummer Rich or Jericho is the gentle and sensitive guy of the three (except in sex, where he gets tough and his real emotions are expressed. How deep, right? ) he treats Braxton nicely, kindly, just like his sister. Until he suddenly finds himself with his cock in her mouth. This is a very touching moment, this connection of theirs. (eyes roll )
Braxton herself is a very complex girl - she comes from an extreme religious background. Her parents are crazy about their religion. And Braxton, who suffers greatly all her childhood, quickly disappears from there at the age of 16, not before she was imprinted as a sex addict (because hey, this is very appropriate for us in the case of Rivers Harem. God forbid we deal seriously with the issue of addiction)
And also a bit crazy because she has synesthesia (sensory mixing).
*** Braxton's synthesis is very interesting - she experiences sounds as colors, which is a common phenomenon among those who have the feature, but she also smells emotions! The smell of cherries is passion, the smell of olives is sorrow and so on. I Must tell that this is a completely new invention of the writer and has not been known to be true . it is her right, only I thought it was pretentious and absurd.
Back to Braxton's character - to her credit she's not a sucker. She does not give up on the three clowns around her and pretty much maneuvers them with all the forces at her disposal, to do as she pleases. ( and let's call it love )
As you can see, almost the entire book is made up of repetitive power struggles. An unending cycle (again, 558 pages) of emotions and exaggerated drama on the part of all the participants who reminded me of someone (I did not say who) in adolescence the day before menstruation. Very tiring, very artificial and the most childish there is (only with sex)
One good thing I have to say - at the end of the book it really seems like love and that everyone lives forever happy, but the road there was so exhausting that I was already completely tired of reading
In conclusion, because this review has also become too long, me and B.B. Reid will probably not meet again.
What was for me exaggerated and grotesque in her previous books that I read was repeated here as well. Scattered and unfounded plot. Ridiculously childish and dramatic characters.
I'm too old for this shit.

5 LILAC CROWNS

Full disclosure, I don’t read REVERSE HAREM. It isn’t my jam. I need a couple to end up together even if there are others along the way, but when one of your faves writes an RH NOVEL, you follow. Let me tell you, I would have missed out on a spectacular story.

Each one of these characters has something special. Houston with his stolid and unwavering leadership and authority, Loren with his charisma and playboy recklessness, and Jericho with his kindness and intensity force you to love them. You become fully immersed in these men. You feel the draw to each of them for different reasons, which makes you able to truly understand why Braxton is drawn to them all.

I also kind of get the appeal of an RH book. There is a sexual freedom and liberation in these novels. You can live your wildest fantasies, and one women is the center of attention, devotion, and gratification. It is alluring and enthralling.

That is also why I loved Braxton from page one. This heroine has gumption. She pushes and shoves back with this boys. She demands equality from them and doesn’t acquiesce when times get rough. She is fierce enough to handle 3 flawed and broken rockstars, and I loved every part of her.

I think what really made Lilac a must read for me, and what makes it more than an RH novel delving into feminine fantasies, is the driving idea behind the story. These characters who once loved each other have been broken, and this journey of healing and redemption and love is wrought with trials and tribulations. Through it all, though, BB Reid exemplifies that real love will shatter and break but it will heal, even when the cracks remain. That is love. It is forgiving and demanding, it is consuming and liberating. The themes and topics that center around love and acceptance moved me. It resonated with my own heart and ideas about love. More than anything I loved the unconventional nature of these four, and the fact that they have zero cares for anyone else’s opinion. They seek happiness and love no matter the consequences or judgments they receive, and that is something that many readers will connect with.

Lilac was so much more than I ever expected. Since it is a true Reverse Harem, I had some assumptions, but I never expected the heart and depth that accompanied the heat factor of Lilac. It tore at my heart, it made me remember the perseverance and healing power of real love, and it epitomizes that it comes in all shapes and sizes. Happiness in life, living with love in your heart is all that matters.

I have so many conflicting thoughts about this book.

If you've read my reviews before, you know I usually like breaking things down into pros and cons. For this one I'm just going to let it all spill out though, because there's a lot to get through. Warning: here there be spoilers.
mountain-outline
PLOT

Braxton Fawn (which has to be the ugliest name I've ever seen on a character) is a 22-year-old aspiring musician. One night, she gets a call from her friend Oni, who's a music agent, with g, the groundbreaking news: the world-famous rock band Bound are looking for a fourth member after the recent death of their guitarist. And Oni has put her name forward.

Braxton rushes to the meeting, where she meets the three existing band members. They are:

⤅ Houston Morrow, the self-proclaimed leader, who immediately develops a hatred of Braxton.
⤅ Loren James, the blond charmer, who immediately hits on her. And lastly:
⤅ Jericho Noble, the quiet one, who seems the nicest of all.

Houston announces Braxton is off-limits. But Loren loves pushing the boundaries, and one by one Braxton falls into a relationship with all three of them which is complicated by their pasts.

MY THOUGHTS

✔️ I have to hand it to B.B. Reid: she can craft one hell of a compelling story. I first discovered this when I was reading Fear Me. Objectively, it's a sh*ttily-written book with countless typos and cringey prose, but SOMEHOW I STILL ENJOYED IT. The prose in Lilac is a lot better for sure; you can tell Reid has developed since her debut. This just means that the book was nice to read on a technical level, and it flowed well.

✔️ Linked to the above: this is a very long, about 170k words. But I think this is a great length. I didn't find that it dragged at all, and actually if it had been any shorter this would have done a disservice to the story being told.

✔️ My FAVOURITE thing about this story is the depiction of how three men who have never shared a woman before can organically grow into a polyamorous relationship. At the start of the book, Houston, Jericho, and Loren are on the verge of breaking up: their relationships have splintered, they hate each other, and Bound is the only thing keeping together. But slowly they patch up their connection thanks to Braxton. The bulk of the word count is devoted to them transitioning from one-on-one relationships to entering a proper polyamorous relationship, and I like that this is done slowly and realistically.

✔️ There's a tiny bit of M/M, but most of it (barring one scene) is off-page and the focus is very much on the heroine, which I prefer.

❌ The OW drama is not ideal. Loren has sex with another woman AFTER he's started flirting with Braxton but BEFORE he has sex with her. I personally was okay with it, because 1) I have a higher tolerance for OW drama in RH novels and 2) as a result of this, Braxton makes Loren wait to have sex with her until after the other two men. But this may be a dealbreaker for you.

❌ The heroine forgives the heroes WAY TOO EASILY. It turns out that Jericho is married (but separated) from his wife Emily, and had nebulous plans to return to her for most of the book. Houston and Loren also didn't tell Braxton this. She does leave them but IMO there isn't enough grovelling and she takes them back way too easily, despite her big words about the 'trust being broken'. In particular I've lost ALL respect for Jericho, who looks pathetic.

❌ The bullying subplot at the beginning is weird. It looks like it's just been shoehorned in so that this book can be called an 'enemies-to-lovers' romance. Houston especially is a complete dick to Braxton for. Absolutely. No. Reason???

❌ Linked to the above: her first sex scene (with Houston) is just a bit repulsive. It comes out of NOWHERE (like literally 35% into a very long book?) and immediately after Houston insults her and objectifies her. In fact, he does it before too, which makes me question her level of self-respect that she had sex with him in the first place.

✔️ But when the heroes are being good, they're very good - besotted, obsessive, etc.

✔️ Also I liked the male POV, which I almost NEVER do. Even though there were four POVs in this book they all felt dissimilar enough from each other that I wasn't put off.

❌ The drama in the last 10% is like, 0-60 in two milliseconds flat. Emily comes out of nowhere and tries to murder everyone. This isn't resolved well at all, and having most of the book be character-driven rather than plot-driven means that the action subplot isn't well integrated into the book as a whole. Instead, it just feels like it's been stuffed into the end.

✔️ The heroine isn't a virgin - in fact, she's experienced and enjoys sex! This is tied into a weird little side plot where she thinks she's a nymphomaniac, but whatever.

OVERALL

This is an odd book, because the bits I liked I REALLY liked and the bits I hated I really HATED. Hence the three stars. On balance, I'm glad I read it and I do recommend it, but I'm going to try and scrub the bits I don't like from my memory.

Reverse Harem Rockstar Romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😠😘🤓😍
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Braxton Fawn - when Calvin Everill, lead guitarist for the mega famous band Bound dies from a drug overdose, the record label wants a guitarist that will improve the image of the band, so Braxton is hired as the new lead guitarist.

The Heroes: Houston Morrow, Loren James, and Jericho Noble - The remaining band members of Bound who had not yet hired a replacement guitarist, and didn’t quite know who they wanted to hire, but they did know who they didn’t want to hire and that was Braxton Fawn.

The Story: The band is unhappy with their record label and management and are just trying to do their best to wait out the final year on their contract until they can be free to do what they want. Braxton is trying to get her foot in the door to the career she has been working so hard at and her fantasy of meeting the guys she has hero worshipped for years dies a quick death when she finds out what jerks they are. They are at each others throats from the start but can’t deny the attraction between each of them.

This book is told in multiple points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Jason Clarke, Teddy Hamilton, J.F. Harding and Jillian Macie who all do a great job. These are some of my favorite male narrators and all have deep masculine and sexy voices. Jillian also does a great job and sounds age appropriate for Brax.

I liked this story about the one girl in a rock band. Brax is a good heroine and I loved the fact that the guys had been friends for years but things have gotten between their friendship and they were at the point where they just tolerated each other, and sometimes not even that. This new situation looks like something that will further tear them apart, especially since all three of them find themselves attracted to Brax.

I have to admit that one thing I hate about rockstar romance is when they recite the words to a song, they never make sense and don’t add anything to the plot, and this book did that more than a few times. It is just a small pet peeve, but there it is. Other than that, I really liked the story and the struggles each of the protagonists were going through.

I loved how each of the guys had their own distinct personality. Houston was dominant and broody, Loren was alternately devoted to Brax and whenever he didn’t get his way, he would act out, and Jericho was nice and gentle yet a demon in the bedroom. They were all so sexy in their own ways.

This is my second Reverse Harem book and it was definitely, a lonnnng and emotional ride.
I've started this book with an idea of how I thought that things could happen, and it did follow that path, untill around 35/40% of the book.

I've been struggling to write a review in the past couple of days, because I've felt so many different things while I was reading, that I couldn't pinpoint a way to start it.

Braxton is as complex as the boys are simple actually...
With the boys, you have them figured out from the start...
Houston is the grumpy bossy leader of their band, and you can see along the book, that he's also the glue that keep everything and everyone together... No matter what.
Loren is the vain spoiled rebel. He's reckless and impulsive, always trying to get a raise from everyone.
Jericho is the sensible emo follower. He's always accepting everything, good or bad, in the hopes of keep his best friends together.

I hated all of them at some point, I'm not kidding... This book is thick, so they have had plenty of time to piss me of... but oh my God... How I loved their evolution! Each. One. Of. Them.

Braxton was the hot mess that turned everything in their life upside down!
I loved her more than anything else in this book. She was always different, and had to become a fighter from a very young age, just because she was probably in the wrong family, and with so many peculiarities, that a closed minded person, could not accept or fully understand her.

Her emotions, the way she felt everything around her, the way she was treated by her family in past, the slut shaming... All her trust issues and their secrets, made her fight against her feelings, even when her body were already theirs.

I have to mention the sex!
The sex in this book is AMAZING!
Their chemistry, together or apart, is out of the charts, and I'm completely obsessed with the attraction between Loren and Jericho!
I Loved that they're a thing even before Brax show up in their life!
I feel like this is more equal or natural in a reverse harem, other than all of the boys being full alpha and straight. I could give 10 stars just for that!

This book is an emotional and really long journey... But although I've felt like not everything was helpful to the story, I really loved the plot, their journey and how every thing closed together.

I do recommend this book, but keep in mind that it is a long journey to their HEA.

DNF'ed at page 182.
There are many reasons why I didn't finish this. I didn't like the Pinterest-quote style writing, the plot was so convoluted, and the way sex addiction was handled in this was so strange... but rather than further elaborate on all of that, I am going to let these quotes from the book speak for themselves...

I couldn't deny my sexism, so I ignored it instead.

"There's more to life than just sex." "You sound like a fucking virgin."

"This conversation is coming dangerously close to sexist, asshole." I chuckled because I genuinely didn't give a shit.

"You're definitely not marriage material. Men like meat and girls who like meat."

"If you're looking for someone to be good to you when he's not inside of you, I'm not your guy."

And I am supposed to be rooting for these men? I am supposed to be turned on by them? I am supposed to care about their redemption (if they even have one at all)?
No fucking thanks. LMAOOOOOO.

Bebe Reid popped my RH cherry in grand fashion! Lilac is flat out amazing! Her hottest book to date and I could not love it more. This story is everything I never knew I wanted, but loved immensely! A definite recommendation.

I went into this book with eyes wild open. I love Bebe's storytelling and knew this new adventure would not disappoint. Frankly, that's impossible. But what I didn't expect was to fall so completely under the spell of these characters. Each of them brought a unique experience and perspective to the story. I loved getting to know them separately and together.

There was so much to this novel. So many experiences, feels, sights, and sounds! The author does an amazing job pulling you into the action of the scenes and honestly I got swept up and didn't want to leave. This was an experience I savored and enjoyed!

Weeks after finishing the book and I still think of them! Well, mostly Jericho, but I'm trying really hard not to play favorites! lol

So, whether you're an RH fan or not, all BB fans should dive head first into this book. Do it! I promise you'll thank me! Highly recommended!

"Eat your heart out."
description

Lilac is a smoking hot rock romance written by the great B.B. Reid. This reverse harem is a complete standalone and will melt the pages right off of your Kindle! Braxton Fawn has always dreamed of making it big in the rock-n-roll scene. A gifted musician, the opportunity of a lifetime lands in her lap when Bound needs a new band member. With three smoking hot rock gods standing in her way, she has the odds stacked against her! Houston Morrow, Loren James, and Jericho Noble think they have everything figure out but falling for the girl that they were trying to get rid of wasn't in their plans.

description
"Together they formed a pyramid."
Told in multiple POV, Lilac is a true contemporary romance with the intricacies of a complex quartet. The book was long and yet, I feel that the story called for depth and the devil is in the details with this read. The story is sweet and yet the four together have a passion that does not stop!
"Braxton looked like an angel, but she played like a demon."
Overall, I can't say I am a huge fan of RH books but I can say that B.B. Reid certainly kept me entertained the entire read. This was my first read by this author (I know right?!?!?) and I look forward to exploring more of her work!

dnf @ 12%

those 65 pages were straight torture for me to read and yes im counting this towards my reading goal for wasting my time and putting me in a reading slump

honestly i have no desire to finish this let alone read one more page.
these “men” where straight up as*holes and h*rny from the moment they laid eyes on the fmc.

from the beginning when they find out the fmc is replacing their old band member they straight up bully her and make her practice for hours and criticize (yell) the smallest mistake simply because they don’t want her there but the second she turns around they’re fantasizing about her and her body??? 🫠
the fmc isn’t any better either. she’s basically there to bring them all “together” because of course all the guys in the band don’t like each other i already know where this story is gonna go AND she’s just as h*rny as the other guys…

if you liked this im really happy for you, but it wasn’t for me.

I popped my BB & RH cherry with this one and I can say, it doesn't hurt at all!!😁
It's pleasure..pleasure..pleasure all the jingle way baby😃
Be prepared to sweat and pant in horniness....in TRIPLICATE. BB has turned up the heat to thermo-nuclear proportions with this standalone RH book

description

There's a hugely popular band BOUND. Brooding Houston Marrow, Sassy Medallion wearing Loren James and Jericho "Rich" Noble.
"They moved in perfect symmetry
Towering, Impenetrable and utterly beautiful."

description

They're in need of a new member to fill one of the vacated post and in walks Braxton Fawn. Supremely talented vocalist, guitarist and a GIRL!! 😲 the band and the manager are caught unawares and their jaws hang open and pants get tighter..esp the crotch areas cause she's drop dead sexy too🤪
"Bound’s first impression of me hadn’t been exactly accurate. They’d been too quick to judge me by my cover while ignoring the pages inside."

description

then comes the gauntlet they make her walk through everyday to prove herself. Their close proximity on the bus, tours, concerts nonstop gets them exposing too much to each other than they'd wanted to begin with. This breeds envy, sometimes resentment, jealousy, and of course Breathless passions.
Then comes THE SCENE. I've always shied away from RH, Gang-Bang books cause I think it's too much like watching octupsuses (octopii..🤔) mate. Too many arms..too many legs.. Sometimes authors forget which hand to put where and which mouth sucks where.
NOT BB, it's like it was perfectly choreographed symphony of passions. I was there watching them like a voyeur.

description

Super hot book, with lots and lots of feels. broken, twisted characters, they have truckloads of skeletons that tumble out and hearts melt and infuse till it becomes difficult to see, where one begins and where the other ends. They truely are BOUND to each other.
It's also full of unpredictable secrets and twists, some I did not see coming.
The end was befitting enough, even though improbable, but it's in perfect sync with the story
Pick up this book for Moist eyes and Moister panties😜

I can’t stand douche rockstars most of the time. Doubly so when these rich assholes living the dream have a chip on their shoulder. But if you give me a mouthy brazen girl to counteract that shit. I’m down. Get ‘em Braxton!

The beginning was cool, all kinds of turmoil, determination and banter. I’m ok with the bullying as long as she fights back and Braxton did, tooth and nail. I have a feeling the words; ‘stick that in your pipe and smoke it,’ will be running through my mind a lot.

Look wise, it was Rich from the get go but I thought he was too submissive. But as the book progressed his personality bulked up in the alpha department. I especially like the contrast of him being a sweetheart on the streets and a dominant freak in the sheets. Best of both worlds really. Honestly the biggest reason I finished this was because of Jericho Noble.

I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I may not like RHs. Pretty sure every one I’ve read, I pick one guy I like and the rest I either don’t care or I loath. The case is the same with this one. My pick? Jericho. Although I do like what’s between two of the guys, a good mmf is always welcome.

The middle was one big pain in my ass. It’s not necessarily that the plot was bad, it’s that some elements were far too drawn out. There’s no reason for this book to be 558 pages. If it had been whittled and shaved down to 400, I think it would’ve been a huge improvement. And I have nothing against long, epic books but this isn’t epic. This is beating a dead horse.

The Pros- I like that a girl is the guitarist (without being the lead singer.) I think her synesthesia is interesting, it added a nice texture to the plot. Overall I like Braxton even though I think she’s a bit too stubborn and a little hypocritical. I like her backstory, especially because it’s fucked up. The songs are actually good, which is a first. I can’t remember ever reading a book with songwriters where the lyrics weren’t mediocre or full out cliche bs.

You know, it’s not like I’m against drama. I’m just sick to death of the back and forth.

But ... I did like the end.

3.5 stars! Not amazing, but I still enjoyed it. It was the emotional whiplash from the heroes that got to me. One second they were hating her and the next they were in love. And anytime I read their POV chapters, I could barely tell who I was reading because their voices were a blur. But I had so much fun with the rock star, music, and tour aspects, and LOVED our girl Braxton. She really made the guys work for it after they messed up with her and made the story for me. I thought it was fascinating that she had synesthesia.

And if anyone is curious, yes there is sword crossing!

5⭐️ 4🌶️ (bumped up to 5 stars cos I can’t stop thinking about it)

Loveddddd this book!
I was unsure going in as it has very mixed reviews but I LOVE rockstar romance and this didn’t disappoint.

I have to say the first half of the book I was thinking this is a 5⭐️ read, it did drop off for me at about the 70% mark.

The first half of the book is perfect, it’s angsty, starts off almost like a bully romance, moves on to emeries to lovers then moves on to why choose, whilst she’s stuck on a bus touring with them, forced proximity at its finest.

I love the characters, Loren was my fav I knew I would love him from the first chapter! Each character had their own distinctive personalities and back stories which are explored throughout the book (mainly towards the end)

Not as spicy as I thought it was going to be?! Only the last couple scenes bumped the rating up to 4🌶️ but prior to those the whole book was pretty tame as far as why choose goes.

It didn’t get 5 stars for the following reasons -

Braxton was such a brat with them for a lot of it, having them run round after her, begging for her 24/7 when she was a mindfuck herself imo?! It became a bit annoying

The Emily backstory was rushed at the end and unnecessary and dramatic 🙄

The back and forth with the break ups and make ups were a bit annoying, every time they sorted things out something else happened in the next chapter 😂

However I do highly recommend❤️

This was better than i was expecting.

I had a great time with it. Lilac was angsty and sexy and thrilling.
I loved all the heroes and the heroine was brave and awesome.

One thing I didn't like. It wasn't MMMF.... and the only full MMF scene was at 90%. There was a hint at more connection, but it never came to fruition. I wish there had been more of that.

I am still on the hunt for good RH with more MM involved.

THIS BOOK HAD ME TASTING CHERRIES THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH

Back in April, BB gave us the first hint at Lilac and had given us bits and pieces throughout the next few months. My anticipation for this book had been relentless ever since. Once the blurb was released I realized there wasn’t one, nor two but three heroes. BB had yet to write a reverse-harem and my excitement peaked for what was to come.

Starting Lilac I was really curious about the type of dynamic the characters were going to have towards one another. I haven't read many reverse-harems but I know authors all have their own unique way of taking on this trope so I was very intrigued to see BB’s approach.

description

Braxton, Houston, Rich, and Loren all had their own point-of-view which I was so grateful for because it helped grow their individuality as characters. It felt as though they were all equals throughout the entirety of the book. The chemistry they had with one another was incomparable. I fell in love with each of them separately but them together was purely magical. Throughout the book, we slowly got a better understanding of who they were as characters and the reasoning behind their actions. We were spectators to their qualities, as well as their flaws, as a band, as friends, and as lovers. My attachment for them simply grew stronger and stronger as all the ups and downs of the novel unfolded.

As the backstory focused on their band life, the tour was something I truly enjoyed reading. Each stop was unlike the previous and the songs written had me in awe. I could only wish they were real to be able to listen to them myself.

description

On top of it all, I was so grateful for the abundance of LGBTQ+ representation in this book. I feel as though it's so rare for the men in a reverse-harem to also get together and I loved that BB chose to take this route. As a resident bisexual, I’m claiming them all as bisexuals too. Haha jk… unless?

description
As intimidating as the size of Lilac was, after finishing it I wish it was even longer. I’m going to miss these characters so much as they started to feel like family to me. I will pray and beg for BB to give us more of them in the future because as perfect as that epilogue was, I'm simply not ready to say goodbye.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

You know what...I am not sure what I expected this book to do for me. Whatever I just read was certainly unexpected to say the least. I am a sucker for rockstar romances so I didn't read the entire description before diving in and boy was I not ready.

1. This book was 500something pages of sex. Where is the plot? Braxton joins a band as the guitarist and surprise, surprise, the three macho manly men members are not pleased. They hate her for half of the book, barely talking to her and emotionally abusing her before they all start having sex - because of course they do. They all have their secrets/demons that they keep from each other:
Braxton comes from an uber Christian community and her parents basically shunned her for having sex and now she thinks she's a sex addict (???) and then it comes out later that she was basically raped by a 30something band member that stopped in her little town when she was 16.
Houston's parents killed themselves when he was 13 so that's why he's moody and broody the entire book. We don't find this out until the last 10% or so.
Rich is married to some crazy person who pretended to have his child and ran, exploiting him for money or whatever and then randomly tries to kill them in the last 10% (??????). That whole subplot could have been cut completely as it was unnecessary and out of left field.
Loren is randomly bi and he and Rich have some sort of sex relationship (???) which was such a throwaway plot point that made no sense. They have sex a few times but like, okay? Why was that in there? I don't get it-it did nothing to further the plot. Like, I was kinda hoping he and Rich would become a thing and Braxton would be mainly with Houston but that didn't happen. So it was kind of like a 'cool cool' plot point that had no effect. I also don't remember his ~drama~ if he had any.
That's it. That is basically the plot. Yet this book is over 500 pages? I kept looking down at the percentage points while reading and was shocked to discover I was only 20% in when I for sure thought I was at least 50% in?? It was like plot point, sex, plot point, sex sex sex sex sex, plot point, sex sex sex sex sex sex sex, plot point, sex sex sex more sex oh and lets end with 4some sex in the church that shamed Braxton for having sex in the first place because...that isn't weird at all....
Basically the plot in this is both very sparse and half of that sparse plot is questionable at best.

2. The characters. Braxton starts off as a strong female lead who forged her own path in line and takes no shit from broody rockstars but she quickly looses any and all character development to become a sex puppet. Where did her voice go? And I rolled my eyes so many times with these guys and their puffed out chests telling her 'how it was going to be'. Okay dude. The only one who didn't piss me off with that shit was Rich.

3. The writing. Oye vey. Not all of it was bad- I was able to finish the book- but some of these very...creative lines made me LOL:
"These boys had it made in the shade"
"It was the only thing I could think to say with his footlong spreading my ass like a bun."
Besides that there were a few inconstancy's like her putting on tights only for it to change to jeans a few pages later.

4. I'm all for people to do what they please if it makes them happy, however, all four of them falling in love and marrying each other and having a kid together all just seems...implausible. You're telling me that jealously will never come up? With the three 'macho' men that they are? Mmmm okay. Besides that fact, not once did I actually believe these characters loved each other. They were saying I love You before they even knew she had a sister! They knew nothing about each other with all the secrets they all kept! It just didn't seem plausible to me.

TL;DR: Wayyyyyy too long. Hardly any plot if you want something other than sex. The main female character's personality got lost in the sex shuffle. I didn't believe the characters were actually in love. Hardly any scenes of these rockstars actually being rockstars. 2 stars for creativity I guess. I am honestly shocked I didn't DNF this-It was like a car crash I couldn't look away from.

Dnf at 40%. I needed to make it to at least one full smut scene to give this book a fair chance but god that was unbearable.

On the surface this book has everything I like going for it. It’s about musicians and going on tour and I eat that up. It’s about a band. MCs that are rude and guarded. A guy named Lo. FMC with sexual trauma and a backbone (the last bit is debatable at times). I mean I should’ve loved this book but for some reason I just couldn’t stand it.

The MCs weren’t just assholes in a later on redeemable way, they were plain misogynistic. I know that part of the book is who will she end up with will it be all of them or just one guy? But the thing is I do not care who she ends up with because all of the men are indistinguishable. There’s a guy who talks a lot but is mean to her. A guy that won’t talk a lot but is mean to her. A guy that is not as mean to her most times but usually is mean to her. Like they’re all basically the same person, why should I care which asshole she ends up with?

On top of that, the book is so unnecessarily long and the plot wasn’t engaging enough to warrant that many pages. Given the number of pages it’s funny how all the characters end up being so boring and one dimensional. And you might say that’s not the point. The point of the book is just smut and that would be fine if the smut was good and didn’t make my whole body recoil. Maybe it had something to do with the poorly written characters instead of the smut itself, I’m not sure. All I know is I’m not reading any more of this for my own sake.

I love a good rockstar book, and an RH rockstar book is even better - so when I saw so many 4 and 5 star reviews on Amazon, I was excited to read this book.
Unfortunately I found this book to be a major disappointment.
I personally didn't really like any of the main characters, especially the guys at the start, and didn't really find anything redeeming about their treatment of Brax. Didn't really connect with Brax and why she finds the guys attractive when they treat her so poorly.
While the sex scenes were fairly hot, they happened at such inappropriate times or when they really needed to talk, so they kinda ruined the romance of the story for me. I actually didn't find there was much romance at all, no progression and just a big jump from asshole behavior to lust to all of a sudden love. Just didn't work for me.
The only real reason I kept reading this book was to figure out what happened in the guys friendship, and even that was disappointing.
Unfortunately for me personally this was a big swing and a miss.
