I just finished this novel and I think J.M. Miller murdered my heart with this novel.
I loved the plot of the novel. It had so many twists and turns. You guys know I typically can see what is going to happen in a novel, but honestly, I only guessed maybe half or less of this novel. It’s written that well. This book is kind of an emotional rollercoaster. I felt so many emotions towards the events and characters. I loved them, I disliked them, I was annoyed with their actions, and I shipped them. I loved how the novel ends. It sets it up for the second novel perfectly. I cannot wait till the next novel comes out!
As I mentioned, I really liked the character development. Vala had great character growth throughout their novel. I loved the other characters and loved watching them develop in character as well. The characters didn’t just have one specific personality treat to them. I love when authors do this because it makes them realistic. The amount of secrets we find out during the novel and questions that are unanswered because they are for the next novel are endless. It was interesting seeing how far trust went in the novel. The realistic portrayal of trust was amazing.
Basically, I fell in love with this novel. I plan on checking out J.M.’s other writings while I impatiently wait for the next novel to try to fill the void of not knowing what happens next....more

Clary Fray thought she had a normal, lonely life. She has one friend, her mom and her mom's friend. She starts drawing the same thing over and over again without thinking about it. Clary is trying to figure out what it is when she walks into a club. She sees something that she never wanted to see and now she is plunged into a new, different world.
My rating: 5 stars
I thought that the character development in this book was amazing. The personalities worked well to create an entertaining read. You really never knew how some of the characters were going to react to a certain situation. Clary was an amazing protagonist. She was trying to be strong despite what was going on around her. She always wanted to do the right thing. This book had a good balance of romance and action.
Ever since I heard about this a while ago, I knew I’d love it. An author who knows her history writing a historical fantasy novel? That’s right up my alley.
The characters were done with so much detail. Even though there were about 5 main characters, Eleanor did a wonderful job of making sure each character was well known and was spotlighted.
My favorite character was Kat. I loved how she was so brave and amazing throughout the novel.
And THAT ENDING!!!! I need book two. It’s not even funny how much I need it. Hopefully I can snag an arc at Bookcon or BEA if I go next year.
The plot progressed nicely. It flowed together easily so it was east to tell who’s voice it was, or who we were focusing on, in each chapter.
This book is a new favorite!!!!!!!
