I really enjoyed Mission One: The Vice Principal Problem. This is the start of a new series called Blue Stars. It follows cousins Maya and Riley. BothI really enjoyed Mission One: The Vice Principal Problem. This is the start of a new series called Blue Stars. It follows cousins Maya and Riley. Both have newly moved to Urbanopolis and are living with their artist grandmother. Maya is dealing with being away from her parents who are both in the military while Riley's parents live with them but she misses her Muscogee Nation cousins and grandparents. It's a rocky journey for the girls at first as they learn to get along while sharing a room and getting accustomed to their new school. But both must team up when the new vice principal proves to be a problem and starts making budget cuts to put more money towards detention.
This is a very enjoyable graphic novel. I liked that it had a message of using your voice without being overly preachy. And even then the girls discover that just using your voice won't always get immediate results and they need to be a little more crafty. It's a great start to a new series and I'm interested in the next installment....more
I thought the artwork was really cute for this and is the reason it gets 2 stars for me. But I don't understand why this was published as YA/teen when there's nothing in here that's teen specific. Unless we're saying graphic novels and comics can only be for a younger audience. The characters in here are all technically adults attending what appears to be a women's college. And it's a very slice of life type story. Momo is introverted and less experienced and she falls for PG who is a player known for hooking up with a lot of girls on campus. I didn't really understand why they fell for each other. They didn't really have chemistry and they didn't really have meaningful conversations that gave me insight to why they were good for each other. I knew what I was getting into something crazy based off the title and synopsis. A band of scientists decide to become porn stars for money to fund thI knew what I was getting into something crazy based off the title and synopsis. A band of scientists decide to become porn stars for money to fund their research on life on other planets. Because people are so desensitized to so many types of sex they decide alien sex will bring in the money.
It was actually not as explicit as I thought it would be though don't get me wrong it's not completely tame. But even though characters are taking part in filming porn I never felt like I was reading porn. I would've liked some stronger characterization. Because of the nature of what they're doing the scientists all sleep together to become comfortable around each other both physically and emotionally. We see their bond throughout and I thought that was depicted well but I wanted to know more about them as individuals.
