I love stories that are about sister relationships, and this story was especially interesting because these two sisters have such a complicated relationship. This story is sad for so many reasons, not just because her sister gets diagnosed with cancer and it's all about how that really changes their perspective on life, but also because our main protagonist deals with an eating disorder that is described in some very intense detail in some scenes, so please make sure to read cautiously and check trigger warnings before reading.
This was a really tough read, but a really great one. This book is so gorgeously written, I love that it takes place in New York, the NYC vibes were amazing. I also just really loved Jayne as a protagonist, she felt very fleshed out and very real. This is a YA book, but it honestly didn't read like YA at all to me. Jayne felt very mature for her age and this book covers a lot of very adult topics. It was such a beautiful but also heart-breaking reading experience. I'm so glad I read it. ...more

This manga adaptation has been the best thing ever and it’s like I get to reread my favorite story over and over again while getting extra bits and pieces of the story and it’s wonderful and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

From my understanding, this is Ali Hazelwood's first YA romance, and I enjoyed it for the most part. I loved Nolan as a love interest, he's a sweet little bean, and I also liked that ALi Hazelwood stepped away from STEM and science for once and wrote about Chess players, something unique and different, I don't think I've ever read about Chess matches like this.
I think Mallory as a protagonist could be a little annoying sometimes, but for the most part I enjoyed her romantic chemistry with Nolan, and I loved her relationship with her family. I think this book is going to spark a lot of conversation about what makes a book Young Adult? Because there was a lot of talk about sex in this book, she talks about how she loves casual sex and uses tinder all the time, and there are somewhat graphic sex scenes in this book. I know the main character in 18 and I think the love interest is 20? But I'm confused on if this is young adult because the characters are young or if this is supposed to be a book for teens? I just haven't read a YA book before that talks about sex this much so I thought that was interesting and might be good to know before reading.
Also, the pop culture references did get a little out of hand and they were over the top, but also this book mentioned BTS three separate times, and because I am a fan of them, and I RARELY see them talked about in books those moments had me super giddy and excited so there's that. ...more

I wasn’t expecting this story to be so sad, but it was so heartfelt. I felt so much for Marjorie, the main character who is a young girl who just lost her Mom and she’s trying to run the laundromat on her own. And the ghost Wendell, he was so precious too. This was such a wholesome story, and I loved the colorful illustrations and it was such a perfect autumn read. ...more

But unfortunately, I thought this story was pretty forgettable. We follow teenage girls as they are being hunted down by a killer in the wilderness, and it sounds like it would be an interesting time, but this story felt really slow paced and repetitive and it really felt more like it was about survival in the wilderness and wasn't as thrilling as I was hoping for.

This one was just okay for me, I loved how optimistic and passionate our protagonist is about music, and I found his fears and insecurities relatable. But I also feel like I just needed more form this? It felt a little underwhelming and like it was missing something. I kind of wanted a romance between the two boys in this story. If you're looking for something like this but with romance, I'd recommend Given, Vol. 1...more

I really liked the characters in this book, I thought the beginning was so good and the last third was so good, this book got a lot darker than I was expecting it to! (read content warnings at the beginning if you're sensitive to specific triggers) but the middle of this book really dragged and got so slow, the pacing killed me. The audiobook is 16 hours long, it's sooo long for a YA thriller, I feel like it could've been cut down.

I think the pacing of this book was a little hard to follow for me at times, when the timeline would jump to 3 years earlier sometimes it wasn't clear to me when it went back to the previous timeline, and things like that but otherwise I enjoyed this! I think there is really great and powerful social commentary throughout this book, and this author does a great job with connecting things in their world to things in our society, it feels very Black Mirror in that way. I could've done without the YA romance in this book though, it made it feel a little cheesy for me at times.

This series has my whole heart. It's a sci-fi romance that involves time travel? And the sweetest group of friends I've ever seen and the most ADORABLE love triangle. I was so invested in both relationships and the ending made me cry. Trigger warnings for depression and suicide in this book, those are very relevant topics throughout this whole series and it was hard to read but also so god damn beautiful and I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters. I think this is my favorite manga series of all time and I can't wait to reread it in the future. ...more
