I didn't know what I was signing up for when I decided to pick this book, but wow! It was so worth it. This is one of the most thought-provoking, stimulating books I have read in my life. I am a new Lisa Jewell reader here and this is my first time reading her work, but she already gained another fan right here!
We are introduced to two main heroines in this book, the famous podcaster Alix Summers and a woman named Josie Fair-- both mothers of two children who share the same birthday on the same year and the same hospital. When these characters crossed paths while celebrating their birthdays at a local pub, Josie began her obsession with Alix after seeing her as someone who has a successful and different life compared to her. Josie offered to work with her on a podcast project where she's going to tell her story and this could potentially become big. Curious and immensely drawn by Josie's mysterious façade, Alix agreed. When Alix chose to let Josie enter her home, she didn't know that it was the beginning of her being trapped in a real-life crime podcast.
"It feels like Josie has taken Alix's normal and swallowed it deep down somewhere inside her darkness."
The subtle, impeccable writing is very apparent in this book. I love when the title itself gives you the clue but it still makes you oblivious to what is really going on. And it was a total page-turner. I just couldn't stop! I wanted to find out what was Josie's real deal here. Why the obsession with Alix? What is the real story behind her odd family?
I also loved how unique the plot and how creative it was, being told from main characters' point of view, to switching to Netflix-documentary style POV which made me feel as if I was watching a real psychological thriller TV show. Very well-done! I also couldn't help but feel gripped by the side characters' POV and how slowly they made the pieces up to complete the puzzle.
The ending was... BIG WOW! Some people don't fancy open-endings but for me it's such a brilliant and artistic way to end a novel, leaving the conclusion up to the reader and making us decide which one we should believe. I have my own opinions and I stick to my belief that (not spoiling anything) one character here is truly evil and twisted and is trying to create an alternate reality to suit herself and make her feel better as a defense mechanism.
"She's not what she makes out to be. Not at all."
If you haven't read this book yet, and if you're a fan of dark, psychological thriller with a hauntingly disturbing character on the side, this is a great book to indulge!

The story is all about childhood pen pals Misha Lare and Ryen Trevarrow. They've been writing letters for each other since grade school and for about seven years, they've never seen each others' faces. They promised not to search each other's name on social media to keep their identity a mystery and to keep their meaningful friendship as it is. But one unexpected night at his band's party, Misha wasn't able to resist the temptation of looking at Ryen's Facebook account after he accidentally saw her picture online. That's when he knew that Ryen was actually there at the party's venue.
I'd be honest. This book was HOT. Like RATED PG HOT. And I'm warning you, Ryen and Misha's smoking chemistry and their steamy scenes will possibly burn your e-reader. lol. And since it's written by THE PENELOPE DOUGLAS, it'll be impossible to stop reading.
Steamy scenes aside, this book resonated a powerful message. I loved how it tackled a very important issue which is bullying that happens in every school. The anti-bullying theme here was quite different compared to Douglas's previous book Bully because in this book, the storyline was centered around the issue and most of the events happened at school. It presented a look at what kids go through every day. It was honest and terrifying and it served as an eye-opening view of what these kids' lives are like.
One of the things that I also loved about this book was Ryen's character which came as a huge surprise for me. She was not easy to like especially in the first few chapters, but I totally understood her. She's a famous student at her school. A beautiful and sexy cheerleader. But underneath it all, she's insecure. She's worried about losing her place and losing her friends. She's afraid to be alone. Afraid to be bullied. And that's what made me appreciate her character. For me, she was real.
Same goes for Misha. I loved that both of these characters shared the same passion for words, the same desire for attention and love. Not to mention the same rebellious trait which was quite entertaining. And as I've mentioned, these characters were redeemable ones.
"We're rebels with a reason."
And you know what especially blew me away? The PLOT TWIST. Yes, that twist was a shocker and totally unpredictable!
It will surely take me a lot of time to get over this book. It was simply amazing. A new favorite of mine. :)
"We're all ugly, Ryen. The only difference is, some hide it and some wear it."

“My life was a beautiful lie. And beneath the beautiful lie lurked an ugly truth.”
There was nothing to prepare me for the magnetism of this book. I was simply blown away! This book is my first Cambria Hebert read and it certainly did not disappoint. The book was filled to the brim with drama and danger, the mystery spot-on and perfectly delivered.
In a small, sleepy lake town in Maine, an unconscious lady was floating in the water and was found by Edward "Eddie" Donovan. It only took one look at her to recognize a familiar face from his past. He immediately took her to the local hospital. After two months of being in a coma, the lady woke up without a memory. Questions were hovering over her head and strange men were just around the corner, waiting to attack her. Little did she know that the answers can only be found in the lake.
“Now my biggest fear wasn't what if I never remembered... It was what if I did.”
The book was unputdownable and it's because of the tight and engaging plot that continued to thicken chapter by chapter. The mystery was nicely executed and the suspenseful scenes grabbed me by the throat, so be prepared for this kind of effect when you read this book.
The fact that the story depicted abuse, the author didn't fail to capture the complicated emotions of the abused heroine Amnesia. I liked her character. She was brave and despite everything that she's been through, she always had the will to face her painful and terrifying past. When it comes to the romantic aspect, I loved it but not so much. Eddie and Amnesia's romance was heart-warming but it was hard for me to warm up to the insta-love and some cheesy dialogues which I considered the only drawback to this book.
One thing I should warn you about: The book ended up with a cliffhanger, so beware. I am excited to read the second book as so many questions are unanswered yet. As a whole, I highly recommend Amnesia. This is a perfect choice if you're a fan of romantic suspense and mystery.

"What a book." These were the first three words that came to mind while I was scouring my brain in an effort to find a fitting definition of what I had just read. I was honestly blown away, and I have to agree with every praise that the reviewers have given this book.
Tarryn Fisher has always been great when it comes to writing dark and twisted books. I was awed by her Mud Vein and now I'm once again impressed with this nerve-wracking masterpiece.
"I can make you a part of something great and beautiful and still portray you as the ugly thing you are."
Told in three POVs, the story of Bad Mommy revolves around the characters Fig Coxbury, Darius Avery, and Jolene Avery. Picture Fig, a woman who moved to West Barrett Street when she started obsessing over a particular stranger's (Jolene's) life-- her daughter, her happy marriage, her personality, her everything. She's a stalker who soon invaded Jolene's home and life. Things eventually got messier when Fig's obsession became serious-- to the point of trying to steal Jolene's husband and imitating everything that she does and she likes.
You cannot predict the outcome of this book. It sure did a fantastic job keeping me guessing what will happen to the characters in the end. What's even more impressive about this book is the fact that it depicts psychological problems that exist in real life. I didn't know that too much obsession over some things can be dangerous. I was too freaked out by Fig's personality. And the way her POV was written in a disturbing way did not even help.
Gripping, thought-provoking, and at times creepy, this book was all kinds of twisted it's painful to put down. And the best part of this book? The ending. It was like a bomb creating a total explosion. Good job, Tarryn Fisher!

This book stunned me in so many levels. It's been quite a while since I enjoyed a dark love story with a BDSM content that does not suffer a "wannabe" syndrome like some books do. So you can just imagine how amazed I was after reading this book. It was so gripping it managed to stir me up all the way through.
Caution: This book is not for everybody, and certainly not for the faint-hearted.:-)
Told in 2 different POVs, Marriage Games started when the marriage of Diana Barnes Steinbeck and Adam Steinbeck was about to fall down. Diana left a letter to Adam saying that she needs a divorce because she no longer felt their connection as a married couple. Adam did not immediately let her, but instead, he asked for thirty days for them to be together and to show her the things that he hid all throughout their marriage-- his life as a Dom.
"Bedroom games. That's all it is. But they're serious, and when played right, everyone wins."
I didn't set high expectations prior to reading this. Seeing my friends' 5-star ratings made me felt skeptical because some top-rated books just do not work out for me. BUT THIS. WAS. SO. FREAKING. GOOD.
I loved C.D. Reiss's writing. It's my first time to read a book written by her and she just blew my mind with her poetic and lyrical tone that felt so right for a dark book like this. I was amazed by the back-and-forth narration between the past and the present events. It was so engaging and it made me want to read more and more in order for me to find out what the heck is really happening with the two.
"You're a submmissive, and the Dominant in me always knew it."
This book basically explored deep and complex thoughts from a man who fell into the world of BDSM. It was then when I read Adam's POV that I felt kind of enlightened. His thoughts simply show that not everyone who gets involved with this strange sexual act wants to do it to their loved partner. Some people hide it because they do not want to show their "dark" side which would taunt the relationship. They have this need to protect and to just be "normal".
What I especially loved about this book was the balance between the romance and the intimate scenes. Just by reading it, you can feel the deep connection between the two characters. You can feel the emotions, the conflict, and the confusion through their POVs.
The characters were also admirable. This is a BDSM book but I was surprised to find a feisty, strong heroine. Diana is the kind of heroine that does not annoy me nor bother me because of her tendency to become vulnerable, but she was such an amazing character.
Everything about this book-- the plotline, the characters, the writing, the romance, the hot kinky scenes -- was good. I daresay it's one of the best page-turners I've read so far. The ending was a cliffhanger, but it made me feel excited to find out how the story would end.

Talk about one of the most overwhelming twists of the year.Twisted Palace practically made me sit on the edge of my seat. And I never got to sit back.
I admit I didn't quite trust this book to stun me the way the previous books of the series did to me. Seeing mixed reviews did that. But after finishing it, I could say Elle Kennedy and Jen Frederick did not fail. The conclusion of this series is truly amazeballs!
After a set of cliffhangers in Paper Princess and Broken Prince, we finally get to have a satisfying ending. And we get to have the ultimate answer to the million dollar question: Who killed this character???
Twisted Place may have a slow-building plot but it surely brought me on a roller coaster ride because of its good amount of mystery. As I was reading it, I found myself collecting clues and piecing together some explanations but no sooner than I have formed an answer in my mind was it immediately taken away in the most insane twist. THAT TWIST, everyone, was the twist that I was looking for... and was thankfully given. I swear that revelation was something that I did not see coming.

There are things that stood out in this book including Reed and Ella's romantic and character development. The spark that these characters ignited was so bright, almost blinding. And I loved it. They have been through the rough patches and the bumps in the road but still, they both ended up so strong and solid together. I really bought the affection they felt for each other.
I loved that Ella remained tough in her decisions and was basically there for Reed in times of difficulties. Her undying presence and love for the Royal boy and the whole Royal household really worked out so well. And Reed... OMG. This guy. He was nicely fleshed-out. It's such a wonder seeing him grow from a mean character to a kind and dependable one. In this book we finally see a different Reed, one who can definitely control his anger issues.
Let's face it. Series-enders with a combination of fluffy and dark themes like The Royals is a risk, and a lot of series have failed when it comes to satisfying the readers with a great conclusion, but I am happy to say that the authors in this series were able to give it to us. At no point did the overall intensity of the book feel forced.
There may be some unnecessary dramas here and there (which kind of pissed me off at first) but soon I realized that they are necessary spices. They were actually the things that brought steam in this finale. And even though I was expecting more action, I still found myself getting thrilled and nervous because I knew that anytime a bomb will drop.
All in all, I was satisfied with the series' ending and right now I'm having this separation anxiety because well... the series already ended. It's sad to say goodbye to Ella Harper and the Royal Boys and everyone that complete this series. Twisted Palace was brought out in an epic way and the series, as a whole, was one of the best series I've ever had the privilege of reading. I will definitely recommend it to the fans of this genre. :)

I knew I would love this book the moment I've read its premise because, omg it's all about Cain! This man made me feel drawn to him when I've read about his character in Ten Tiny Breaths. And when I learned that he's a part of this series, I was so hyped!
Four Seconds to Lose is quite different compared to the previous books of this series mainly because of its dark theme. We get to know a new character here named Charlie Rourke. Charlie grew up under the care of her step-dad named Sam. Unfortunately her life is a mess. Her step-dad deals with drugs and he uses and controls her to take a big part of it. When she was sent to Miami for a secret drug dealership, she started planning for an escape, particularly giving in to the idea of a new identity. And of course she can't do it without enough money, so she went to stripping, a job that potentially offers a lot of money in just few nights, at a club which is owned by the quiet and dangerously notorious man, Cain. The moment Charlie and Cain met, there's already a sexual attraction going on which further led to deeper feelings. But Cain doesn't know about her past and her real identity and Charlie doesn't plan to let him know because it will just endanger his life.
There was edginess here that made me feel anxious and that's one thing that I loved about this book. It was fully nerve-wracking. Charlie and her hidden activities were too much for me to handle. And then Cain trying to save her-- I knew their whole situation is going to be a lot more difficult.
I especially loved the plot. There was a little bit of mystery and the romantic build-up totally won everything. And the smexy scenes-- don't even get me started. When it comes to the characters, I loved them both. Cain is one helluvah irresistible man. I loved how he treated Charlie and the rest of the girls who are working at his club. Charlie, on the hand, impressed me with her strength and her will to move on and get past her miserable life. I also loved the cameo appearances of the characters from the previous books and how they all became closely connected in the end. My only tiny complain though is the near-end chapters and the resolution. They kind of felt hurried to me. Nevertheless, I'm still glad I got the ending that I hoped for.
As a whole, Four Seconds to Lose is quite simply an amazing book. I even loved it more than I loved the first two books of the series because it's simply different. This book totally brought out such a sweet, stunning, and thrilling romantic story that I surely wouldn't forget.

No doubt, A Court of Mist and Fury tops my favorite sequels this year. It basically owned me, took my heart, broke it into a million pieces, and mend it all back together. Sarah J. Maas sure doesn't stop giving me goosebumps. I've just realized that there are so many reasons why I need to stick to her works and never let go, because she does it better. Always.
Notable things to expect in ACOMAF:
> remarkable plot > character development > new setting > new characters > romantic development > series of revelations > sizzling romantic scenes > deep, tear-jerking dialogues > plot twist
and of course--
> Rhysand and lots and lots of Rhysand
These things are more than reason enough for me to rate this 5++++ stars. There was just too much goodness that happened in this book. So much improvement, especially when it comes to Feyre's character. I loved how she handled and basically maneuvered all the rough situations here, how she listened not only to her heart but to her mind as well, and how she was able to use her critical thinking in the end. I've just witnessed a new Feyre and with that, I was more than happy.
I guess it's already quite obvious and it's fair to say that this book is about Rhysand, isn't it? Yep. Where is Tamlin? What is Tamlin?
He's gone. Figuratively. And this isn't a spoiler. Tamlin (in ACOTAR) was non-existent here. He basically changed-- or so I thought. I admit that it was so hard for me to accept his character changes because I rooted for him in the first book. I kept asking, why? Why did the author change his character? It was when I reached the near-end part of the book when I finally realized that he didn't really change. I just saw the REAL him. He was in my opinion, a good character. It's just that... He's weak and his love for Feyre and the need to protect her was all-consuming, to the point where he became so manipulative and territorial.
That's why in the end, my vote goes to Rhysand. I've known his character in the first book as someone who's cocky and literal bad boy, but I didn't know anything about him, really. In this book, I saw him as a well-developed, wholly different character. I didn't know that behind his pretty face and sexy grin lies dark secrets full of pain which made me feel for him.
"He thinks he'll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out."
The best thing about this sequel apart from the character and romantic development was also the setting. The Night Court was so beautiful it's too much! I loved how the place was described in a vivid and captivating way. I found myself really dreamy just by imagining those beautiful stars and sunsets *sigh.
This is what I imagine The Night Court to look like:
I had a lot of favorite scenes here, too. Like the Starfall festival scene, the Court of of Nightmares smexy and full-of-sexual-tension scenes, and the scene when Feyre said:
"You love me? Then eat. "
Did I say that I also love it every time Rhysand calls her, "Feyre darling?" ;)
In addition to my favorite scenes, the new characters also rocked! Amren, Cassian, Mor, and Azriel for the win!!! I like the Inner Circle and their bad-assery and I need more of them soon, in the third book.
I actually have a lot more to say, but they're going to be really spoilery so I am just going to leave it here:
FEYSAND IS LIFE.

There goes my feelings. After reading this book, I found myself playing all the events in my mind over and over again. They were too absorbing and nothing short of brilliant. I didn't expect I was in for a roller coaster ride!
All the Ugly and Wonderful Things was a tough book to read. It screamed heartache and many different overwhelming emotions. A well thought-out story about a girl named Wavonna Lee "Wavy" Quinn, the book opens in the year 1975 when she was 6 years old and has started to live under the roof of her aunt Brenda and her husband and two daughters Amy and Leslie. Wavy has always been a different girl. She doesn't eat, doesn't speak if she doesn't want to, and always sneaks out of the house. It was when her parents came around to take her and her brother Donal when her life went back to being miserable. Her irresponsible parents are the worst. Her dad is a drug dealer while her mom suffers a mental illness. But when a tattooed ex-con named Kellen came into her life and basically helped her manage her awful childhood, she started looking up to him and she developed more than brotherly feelings to him.
Told in multiple POVs, I found this book in a way, emotionally challenging. It wasn't that easy to dive into various characters' minds and perhaps explore their feelings and thoughts. Wavy's thoughts alone were more than enough to destroy me. What more when it comes to her cousin, to the people around her, and especially Kellen? But the good thing that I found in this multi-POVed book was that it made me become more open-minded to the main characters' situation. If I have read this book without getting into other characters' perspective, I think I may have the tendency to judge Wavy and Kellen's relationship. Their age gap was odd and I can't blame this story if it led to so many negative reactions from the people around her, especially from Wavy's aunt. Reading this book made me feel accepting. It made me feel as though I was the one wearing their shoes, thus I found myself empathizing with them.
I was awestruck by the series of events here, both the good and the bad. It was pretty much unpredictable. All throughout the book, I didn't know what's about to happen and worse, I already envisioned a sad and tragic ending. Because gaaah books like this tend to end that way! But despite all the ugly things that happened here, there were of course wonderful things as what the title implies.
"I liked to pet his feet with mine. Touch his hands with mine. Rub my cheek against his. I liked how we were different, but the same."
I believe this is one of the most unforgettable books that I've read this year and I'm glad I really read this gem. It was gripping and it definitely offered a whirlwind of emotions. The characters were painted with enough realism and everything kept me on the edge. Just a heads up though, there were many delicate issues here such as drugs, abuse, marital cheatings, and crime. All in all, it was a highly emotional read and certainly one of the best books ever written in 2016!
(Apart from being intrigued with this book, I've also read it for a purpose which is to greet my dear friend AJ a happiest birthday. Happiest birthday, my dear! I hope you did have a blast! First things first, this book is not for everyone. It's dark and literally twisted. It contains sexual assault and BDSM with a bit of dark taboo, so if these things don't sit well with you, then this book is not for you.
Sweet Jayne is a very complicated story. I don't even know where to begin with because the characters' lives are so messed up. Nadia Jayne is the heroine here. She's a young and beautiful woman who seems to attract every asshole she meets. When her mom married the rich business tycoon Donovan Jayne, her life basically turned in a completely different direction. It became worse when she met a new friend named Kasey who was kidnapped right before eyes. For years, Kasey hasn't been found and Nadia's guilt continued to nag her which led her to push through the investigation and seek the help of the authority with the assistance of her step-dad. That's the time when she met Logan, the Chief of Police in their town who later on played a significant role in her life. Another man soon approached Nadia's life-- Kasper, a.k.a. Ghost who's sole purpose was to hurt her in order to avenge her lost sister, Kasey.
I didn't regret my abrupt decision to read this book. This was not even on my tbr until last week when I've read my friend Candace's review which intrigued me and pushed me to dive into it. The story was unlike any other dark books I've read. Each of the characters were flawed in a f*cked up way but they're very interesting to read about. I loved getting into their minds, no matter how corrupted they seemed to be.
The plot was certainly the best! I loved how every chapter made me feel very excited to know what's going to happen next. The mystery was certainly there and it kept getting edgier page by page. There were tons of action scenes and cringe-worthy moments, too, which gave me the right amount of thrill.
Sweet Jane, overall, was a total page-turner. Certainly one of the best dark books I've read in my life! I highly recommend this book to fans of Killing Sarai by J.A. Redmerski, Captive in the Dark by C.J. Roberts, and Bang by E.K. Blair.
You can never go wrong with J.A. Redmerski! This sequel was a tough one but she handled it perfectly well.
The series continues with so much ba5 Stars!
You can never go wrong with J.A. Redmerski! This sequel was a tough one but she handled it perfectly well.
The series continues with so much bad-assery. Sarai, or rather Izabel, is now pursuing a different path in life after realizing that a 'normal' life isn't for her. She wants justice and vengeance and to be able to attain those, she must join Victor in his dangerous missions. In this sequel we meet a new character-- Fredrik Gustavsson. Equally hot and dangerous and a new assassin to fangirl over!
As the series continues, the story gets even better! I enjoyed this sequel so much because of how the author delivered such a fast, exciting pacing and how she plotted those blood-curling action scenes. There were even morbid scenes that made me cringe... but that's how I like it.
Even the characters became more interesting and very well developed, especially Izabel. What a kick-ass woman! I loved her even better here because even if she made some reckless decisions, she was no longer helpless and vulnerable. She's deadlier!

"She is the perfect liar and manipulator. She can become someone else in two seconds flat and deceive an entire room of people who are not likely to be deceived by anyone. She can make a man believe anything she wants with very little effort. And she doesn't fear death."
The romance was especially hot and so much better than the first book and it's because we can see a different side of Victor here. His softer side.
"It's in Victor's eyes that I see so much more. An everlasting bond between us not created by this moment, but by the night we crossed paths in Mexico. Thrust into each other's lives by a twist of fate and held there by our rare similarities and our need to be together. We are one in the same."
All in all, Reviving Izabel was a great follow-up to Killing Sarai. So many thrilling, action-packed scenes that will leave you gasping. You can't just miss this sequel after reading Killing Sarai!

A 5/5 Sempre Stars for this book!
I believe this is one of the best books written so far.
Sempre is yet another masterpiece where J.M. Darhower uses a dark theme as a plot device for a YA/NA romantic genre.
The story centered around Haven who grew up as a slave under the Antonelli family. She was about to escape and ask for help when she stumbled upon Dr. Vincent DeMarco who brought her to his home and basically gave her shelter. In return, she was also to work as his slave-- with restrictions and certain rules to never get out of the house or open any code inside. In her new home she met the notorious bad boy Carmin DeMarco, a Mafia prince who has the entire world under his fingertips. What soon blossomed between them was an unexpected love which eventually became a complication to their situation where danger continues to threaten them and heavy decisions matter.
I loved the concept of this book and the exquisite romance of two young people who fell in love against seemingly impossible odds. I expected it to be something different, something that I'm used to in a Mafia romance, but I was surprised by its uniqueness. The writing of J.M. Darhower and the ardent tone she used gave me a plethora of different emotions.
She was quiet, running her fingers across his abs and tracing his scars with her fingertips. "How about we just be Haven and Carmine? We don't know the ending, but we can always hope for the best."
"I like that," he said. "Besides, there's a reason we don't know how a story ends."
"Why?"
"Because it doesn't."
Carmine and Haven's love story was one of a kind. I absolutely loved their exchange of lines and the way their cheesy yet heart-warming conversations moved me. It also helped a lot that Carmine was such a cocky, sarcastic, yet very passionate and sweet guy. Just a heads up, this guy is extremely jealous and possessive but I admit to myself that I didn't have any problem with him being that way because well, who am I to complain? His character was defined so perfectly and I just could't do anything but SWOON.
"You were brought to me for a reason, for us to save each other. Because you weren't the only one needing to be saved, Haven. I was drowning, and you rescued me."
At first I did have a little problem with the pacing. The book, I admit, did drag out too long. BUT! I realized when I got to Chapters 40 and beyond that those dragging scenes were a necessity. They were like spices that made the whole book entirely meaningful and dramatic. If the story did not finish with a BOOM, and if the story didn't have that beautiful climax, then I'd probably resent its slow-pacing but then I loved how the overall story turned out so it didn't become a problem with me.
There were many places Carmine would go back to, many things he would have done differently, but one thing he wouldn't take back was what he had done to save her.
As a whole, this book was a real surprise. The drama, the sentiments, the dilemma, and even the slow-burn flaw that the author managed to convey were so overwhelming and thought-provoking. I cried a lot of times as I went through its pages (How could an author do that to me?) and I experienced a great deal of adrenaline-rush after reading those action scenes in the near-end. It was just so good!!!
To those who love heavy drama and romance with action-packed scenarios, you definitely should read this book. I cannot be alone in this, guys! I have to get you to read and experience the beauty of this book, too!
Their love existed, despite everything else, and it was the love that would go on forever. The moment was etched in time, transcending the constraints put on them by life..

"He'd shown me pools of starlight... He's saved my life like some kind of feral knight in a legend, and I'd gulped it down like faerie wine..."
I was completely blown away after finishing A Court of Thorns and Roses. I finally realized why this book has hit the shelves with a storm and became an all around hype in the entire book community. Apart from the fact that it's the work of a genius in a person of Sarah J. Maas, this book is a complete deal.
The plot. Everything was so perfect in terms of its plot. I loved how Sarah J. Maas based the fairy concept on such a popular tale as "Beauty and the Beast" that she plotted the majority of its storyline into ACOTAR's story and used Beauty and the Beast's main characters as the basis for this book's characters.
The pacing. There was no such thing as slow-paced here. Ever. I couldn't even remember if there was a single part of the book where I felt bored or sleepy. Every chapter, every paragraph, every single line, screamed intensity.
The world-building. Stunning. I am at a loss for words just thinking about how Sarah J. Maas built the amazing world of this book. How everything started as a myth when a lady was holding a Cauldron and the whole fairie continent was magically created. I also loved how the whole continent was divided into different courts: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Day, Night, Winter, and Dawn court and how they were all managed by High Lords. Speechless.
The characters.Feyre is one unique and well-developed character. Better than Celaena in my opinion. She's strong-willed and very responsible. I liked her character so much that I found myself teary-eyed at times because of the knowledge that she's the only one who feeds her family, thus her hunting at the woods. Even when she felt so terrified of the forest and the creatures lurking in it, she braved her soul because of her obligations. And with no whining on her part. Also, she's the kind of character that you will like because she's simply not annoying. She takes responsibility in her every decision. She's also cunning and wise despite the fact that she's illiterate. Yes. We're having an imperfect, no-Mary Sue character here, guys.
On the other hand, I loved Tamlin. A High Lord fae with an air of mystery and well, sexiness. Who doesn't want to sign up? He was described so beautifully and intricately here that I couldn't help but sigh at the sheer perfection of his characterization.
"I love you. Thorns and all."
The romance. I have been looking for books that balance both the fantasy and romantic aspects and never have I expected that this book was it. WHY??? WHY did I resist the temptation of reading it? This book basically has been sitting on my shelf for months! Now I see what I've totally missed all this time. The romance was all kinds of beautiful. There were swoony and even steamy scenes which kind of... surprised me. (Really, Sarah J. Maas? You could definitely write intimate scenes that are way beyond my imaginings in a fantasy book?) I didn't know this was sort of a New Adult book-- which was good, because it just made the romance all the more compelling.
"I don't want you to live somewhere else. I want you here, where I can look after you-- where I can come home and know you're here, painting and safe."
The later part of the book hinted a love triangle because... *sigh Rhysand.
Yes, we are meeting the other piece of the love triangle! And what a delicious piece, too. I don't normally root for two guys in a love triangle but here I am, shipping either Tamlin or Rhysand for Feyre!
"Each of us has a beast roaming beneath our skin, roaring to get out."
The ending. The final chapters of this book proved to be a big and epic surprise. WOW, I was so amazed by the things that took place... especially when Amarantha, the evil Queen, was introduced. That's when the whole lot of action took place and everything became too overwhelming for me to take. I ended up panting and my heart was beating loudly because I got so nervous.
Now that is how you start a series! Sarah J. Maas, you did it again. You truly are a queen. Rightfully so! A Court of Thorns and Roses is another one of those books one will shelve as a new favorite. It's beautiful in every single way and it's complete with all the elements you are looking for in a fantasy retelling. If you haven't read this book yet, do yourself a favor and start it now.
"The heart is stubborn. It holds onto love despite what sense and emotion tells it. And it is often, in the battle of those three, the most brilliant
"The heart is stubborn. It holds onto love despite what sense and emotion tells it. And it is often, in the battle of those three, the most brilliant of all."
ALL PRAISES TO THIS BOOK!!!
It's my first Alessandra Torre read and I loved it to bits and pieces! After listening to its audiobook, I found myself vowing to devour more of Alessandra's books because her writing style is simply delightful and intense!
There are so many twists and surprises in this book and I'm afraid that I might accidentally reveal a spoiler so I'm not going to give a glimpse of its synopsis. Let me just tell you that the storyline of this book is absolutely unique and well-crafted! From the beginning to the end, I found myself totally compelled because of its strong voice. There's emotional depth, enough angst, great characterization, and beautiful narration.... ALL ROLLED INTO ONE. (Oops, and there are hot and smexy scenes.*winks)
I'd say this is one of the best books I've experienced so far this year and I'm glad I found another gem. It's one of those books that will leave an impact to a reader after finishing it. And my, my emotions were all over the place. And THE ENDING! It was a total winner and it was done neatly and strongly and with an air of surprise that left me gasping.
I would highly recommended this to every New Adult reader. This book is not-to-be-missed!

"There is nothing so terrible as a story untold."
Queen Song is one of the novellas of Red Queen series. Here, we are told about the backstory of Queen Coriane, the mother of Prince Cal from Red Queen. Coriane belongs to the Silver blood, under the House Jacos-- a not-so-well-endowed clan compared to other Silver bloods. She writes her life events in a dairy and conveys her emotions there. Her ordinary life changed when Prince Tibe, heir to the court of Norta, fell in love with her and asked her hand for marriage, which of course, became the reason why the traditional Queenstrial was never realized. This led to conflicts and certain intrigues that tested Coriane's strength and belief while carrying her crown as a Queen.
It's Victoria Aveyard's flawless and breathtaking writing style that made me embrace this novella. Once again I was amazed by how she was able to bring this story in an epic level. There were no action scenes here but all the events were simply engaging. I loved how the simple plotline surprisingly became extraordinarily beautiful in the end.
The romance between Coriane and Tibe was sweet and raw, heartbreaking at times. There was also a good pacing here and the Silver blood's powers were drawn neatly.
Perhaps Coriane's character development was the one that's lacking here. She came out fragile and weak in the beginning but she was starting to get tough in the near-end. Unfortunately, she went back to being weak again in the end, surrendering to her fate and accepting her vulnerability that she couldn't do anything to save herself and the people she cared about.
All in all, this novella is totally compelling despite some minor flaws. It's nice to know Coriane's story after she was mysteriously mentioned in Red Queen. It was written in a poignant yet beautiful prose, something that holds you together to read it. When it comes to the ending, it was a bit hazy and mind-boggling, thus leaving us with a big question: WHO DID IT?

This installment could be the best ending if Cassandra Clare didn't do the City of Fallen Angels. Everything I am looking for in a sequel (and finale) is already here. Extraordinary plotline and pacing, engaging characters that continue to get better as the series go by, and the vividly captivating description of Idris. This book is too powerful and well-packed with action and each chapter gets edgier. There were also more revelations here and new characters being introduced, and let me tell you that Clary also became a better heroine. If there's a certain thing that makes this installment even more beautiful, it's also the romance. I totally love the romantic development between Jace and Clary here. That ending! *sigh Cassandra Clare sure knows how to draw me to her beautiful world!

Colleen Hoover, what did you just do to my heart? You just turned me into a crying mess! Now I'm in a full on sob fest.

I don't think this review of mine can give justice to this amazing novel but let me just tell you that November 9 is simply beautiful! And beautiful does not even begin to describe it. It's BOOK-WORTHY. The kind of book that will hook you, consume you, and OWN you from the very beginning up to end.
November 9 begins when Fallon O'Neil and Ben Kessler met at a restaurant in Los Angeles on the 9th of November. Despite having an instant connection with each other, Fallon thought that she's not yet ready to fall in love and commit herself into a relationship, thus she told Ben that she'll start dating him only when she reach the age of 23-- which will be five years after their first meeting. Before she moved to New York, they both decided to meet once a year-- same place, same date-- November 9.
So I thought that was just all about it. And I was wrong. Because there were too many things that happened in this book and the PLOT was done in an outrageous and intricate manner. That's how I know that Colleen Hoover once again did a great job-- when she was able to make me pause and contemplate about the series of events in the story.
"When you find love, you take it. You grab it with both hands and you do everything in your power not to let it go. You can’t just walk away from it and expect it to linger until you’re ready for it.
What especially made me love the book were the main characters. Ben and Fallon are well fleshed-out characters. Ben especially. This man. I appreciate Ben's character because it's so easy to connect with him. He has a way words that can melt one's heart. Not to mention what a damn hot writer he is. And Fallon-- although I had some issues with her inconsistency, I grew to love her as I began to see how she became a fairly strong and well-developed character from being weak. And well, she's a book lover and that makes her still a likeable character.
"One of the things I always try to remind myself is that everyone has scars. A lot of them even worse than mine. The only difference is that mine are visible and most people’s aren’t."
The romance is one of the book's greatest strengths. Ben and Fallon's story was poignant and heart-wrenching. All throughout the story I found myself getting scared as to what was going to happen. I got so into the book and I became really nervous because anything could happen. And wow, just when you think it can’t get anymore emotional or heartbreaking, the greatest PLOT TWIST OF ALL PLOT TWISTS happened and then that's it. I was destroyed. My heart was shattered into a million different pieces. You did it all over again, Colleen Hoover!
It took four years for me to fall in love with him. It only took four pages to stop.
Colleen Hoover's writing style once again dumbfounded me. It never really gets old to be honest. But I guess I appreciate her more in this book. Her writing here separates November 9 from all the contemporary books I've read and even from her previous books, because the concept is unique and amazing. The whole premise and the story itself completely stole my heart, made me smile, fall in love, drown in tears, and reflect the messages behind. I LOVE NOVEMBER 9! Simply one of a kind. It's now a new favorite of mine-- one I will never forget for a very long time!
She’s not the kind of girl you choose your battles for. She’s the kind of girl you fight to the death for.

He's a monster wrapped up in a pretty package. But I find myself wondering at a times like this, when I feel the distance between us, if maybe in his eyes, the real monster is me.
This book is so not what I've expected! Everything was totally mind-blowing and an absolute perfection! This is my first time ever to read a book written by J.M. Darhover and to say I am appalled is an understatement. The author's writing style defines what a true dark-romantic storyteller should possess. I have to say, J.M. Darhover is an author to watch!
Monster in His Eyes radiates a completely dark, gripping, and mysterious love story about an eighteen year old college girl named Karissa Reed and an older, thirty-six year-old man named Ignazio "Naz" Vitale. The moment they met, Karissa was hooked by Naz. It was the virile, dark side of him added by his air of mystery, wealth, and authority that intrigued her and drew her to him. As their relationship progressed into a more intimate one, Karissa thought that she was already falling for him hard even if she didn't have any idea of his true identity.
He's a drug, an addictive one, and I'm not sure it's a habit I can kick. All it took was one hit. One strong, euphoric hit and I was hooked.
This book is suspenseful and dark, raw and enigmatic. I enjoyed how it started out strong that it instantly caught my full attention and how chapter by chapter I found myself more drawn to the book and the mystery that it held. The main characters are wonderful and very unique, and with lovable flaws. Karissa is a sweet and passionate heroine while Naz is an enigmatic, sexy, strong man.
How can someone surrounded by an air of danger make me feel so downright safe?
The plot progression was a bit slow from the start up to the middle but that's what made it all the more riveting because the anticipation of what's about to come and be discovered thrilled me.
"When you love somebody, you want what's best for them... but when you're in love with them, you want them for yourself."
The romance was absolutely good! There were lots of passionate and emotional scenes that can drive you crazy. It was also the main characters' relationship development that made the book really remarkable.
"We keep the darkest part of us to ourselves until we think others are ready to see them."

My Prince Charming turned out to be the villain of my fairy tale...
As a whole, THIS BOOK DID ITS JOB. I look forward to reading its sequel soon! :)
"I'm not a good man, Karissa, and I will never be. So don't think you can fix me, or that I'll ever change, because I won't. I can't."
Einstein's Beach House surprised me! I didn't know what to expect from this book and from this author but the overall impact it brought me was beyond Einstein's Beach House surprised me! I didn't know what to expect from this book and from this author but the overall impact it brought me was beyond my expectations. This book consists of 8 short stories, each with different themes but all in all, coming up with one thing -- life experiences.
The writing style of Jacob M. Appel is so impressive. He has this unique plot and great, three-dimensional characterization and he laces everything with humor and emotional conflict that even if each story was short, I felt as if I was reading a regular-length book.
I made a brief review for each story because I was too overwhelmed with everything in this book and here they are:
1. Hue and Cry
This is the first short story of Einsten's Beach House. It's a dark and twisted story, with an underlying sensitive issue that centers a man who is a sex offender. How he was treated by the people around him totally describes harsh reality. I don't know exactly what to feel about this but I can say that the author very well establishes a great reality-based story.
2. La tristesse des hérisson
This second short story held a very heavy topic which was handled perfectly with humor. It's about a couple who adopted a hedgehog. Sounds a bit normal but the moment they took the hedgehog home, their relationship slowly went downhill because of some psychological issues that were focused on the hedgehog. If you read this book blindly, you will appreciate the hidden message the author was conveying. This short story is beautiful and gripping. It's psychological and an eye-opener. We tend to blame other people for the fault which is entirely done by ourselves and act this defense mechanism which is so-called displacement.
3. Strings
"It's much better to not be okay when you ought to be fine, than to be perfectly content when you really should be falling to pieces."
Well this third short story hits home. It's about a 40 year-old woman who was approached by her ex-lover who's a musician, for a favor. At first I didn't get the message behind the story but when I reached the ending-- wow! The story sent a deep, powerful message that hit straight to the core. It's about defining the value of success and failure and how each person's approach towards these things vary. It's also more about moving on and forgiveness.
4. Limerence
The fourth short story of this book completely stole my heart. It's heartbreaking. It's a flashback story about a teenage boy and a girl whose friendship started right when they were in high school. Despite the girl's imperfections and issues in life, the boy slowly developed feelings for her, which was unfortunately not returned due to the girl's circumstances and misfortunes. I love how this short-length of a story felt longer than I've thought. There was so much emotional depth in this story. The melancholy tone also made me feel like I'm reading a Nicholas Sparks book. From the beginning up to the end, I was pleasantly moved because of the great characterization the author was able to distinguish and the emotions being poured that tugged at my heartstrings.
5. Einstein's Beach House
Now this fifth story is more about the things that usually happen in the family household. It's about a couple with two kids who live in a beachfront house which was perceived as Albert Einstein's beach house. As they later on made the house a source of their income through the tourists that usually visit because of their curiosity, they later on learned that in fact, the house was originally owned by Einstein's niece. What made this short story brilliant was how the author emphasized the essence of sentimental value for a particular thing and how a person values childhood and family relationships. The ending of this short story was so touching!
6. The Rod of Asclepius
By far, this sixth short story is my most favorite of all. I loved the dark theme in which a father and a daughter bonded through some twisted kind of activity. In this story, the father was introduced by the author in a very mysterious way. He pretended to be a doctor whenever he enters the hospital and when he's inside a particular room, he injects random patients, basically killing them. But he always did it together with her daughter who was a seven year-old. As the girl grew up, the memory of what happened still lingered and even served as a traumatic experience to her. This is such a brilliant, dark story. It's cringe-worthy and as usual, very well-written. It also gives a reader something to ponder in the end.
7. Sharing the Hostage
This short story is particularly funny! It's about a divorced woman who wanted her tortoise, which was already in the hands of her ex-husband, back. The ex-couple didn't have a child but the way they value the turtle, sharing a joint custody, as if it's their own child, was so hilarious and strange. The woman and her lover planned to abduct the tortoise from her ex-husband but when they've already had it, they realized that maybe after all, they shouldn't have took it because it won't survive in their planned trip. All throughout the story, I was laughing because of its unrealistic but hilarious approach. In the end, I realized that the story itself shows the importance of giving value to a certain thing-- no matter how small or big it is.
8. Paracosmos
The last short story of Einstein's Beach House is charming. The story centers around a small family consisting a couple and a daughter. The daughter had an imaginary friend whom the couple thought was alarming. This short story is realistic in a way because having an imaginary friend is part of childhood. The message behind the story was also amazing. It emphasizes importance of family bonding and of course, the importance of fidelity.
As a whole, Einstein's Beach House is a masterpiece and a real gem! I am so thankful to have been given a copy of this book from the author because it's a book that I will forever treasure. The contents are all unique, amazing, and very well-written, in a can't-put-it-down way. It's a powerful anthology that explores every sensible and even psychological aspect of life. If you want a wholesome, thought-provoking reads, I highly recommend this anthology!

This is the kind of book that I should not have loved, yet I ended up thoroughly appreciating it just because... the ending!
I have to give the author Mia Asher a lot of credit for giving me all kinds of emotions all throughout the book. This book is clearly WRONG when it comes to its concept which is CHEATING but quite honestly, after reading it, I've realized that behind the lies, the deception, and the betrayal Cathy did to her husband, the book gave a very powerful and overriding message to everyone. That indeed, doing these things will not only destroy your relationship with your partner, but it will also destroy you as a person.
The story is all about the perfect married couple Cathy and Ben. They have the marriage everyone is dreaming of. Ben loves Cathy completely and wholeheartedly. And even when Cathy had so many miscarriages all throughout their marriage, he was still the same devoted husband. However, Cathy slowly became depressed when the third baby became a failure. Then Cathy met the gorgeous and attractive blonde Arsen who made her heart and body confused. When her next miscarriage happened, that's when her entire world crumbled and she did the worst mistake of her life...
I'm done with doing the right thing. It's at this moment, when I feel Arsen’s hot breath on my face and his arms wrapped around me, that I decide to throw everything away. Ben, my marriage, my future.
Cathy cheated and completely forgot her perfect husband and everything about their marriage just to be with Arsen who gave her all the pleasure a man could offer. Honestly, I HATED CATHY. And I still do. What she did was choose lust over love. I wanted to strangle her just to bring her back to her senses because she was such an ingrate, very selfish woman.
Arsen was the fuel needed to burn my marriage to the ground, but I was the one who held the match in my hands the entire time.
But what made this book sensational was the soul-wrenching emotions it gave me as a reader. I felt every word and every line deep down in my core. Mia Asher is an emotional genius! Her words are like daggers that when you read them, they will not just make you wince in pain but destroy your heart for what it's worth.

The best part of this book was the ending. It was, in a way, a different kind of twist. It was not a very pleasant conclusion. It was bitter-sweet but it was worth it and I think that's the best way to end this super sad, heart-breaking book. Kudos to Mia Asher for turning me into an emotional mess!
Arsen became the air I needed to breathe, but Ben was my lungs.
