H/h first meet when they were 16 and 17, the hero having run away from the commune his parents ran, wanting to be normal while the heroine felt invisible to her father. The naive heroine is protected and cared for by the hero, who does the right thing by contacting her father. Sixteen years later they meet again, the hero having completely erased his origins yet reeling with guilt about that. The heroine challenges his workaholic ways and doesn't take no for an answer and slowly makes her place into his heart again. Of course she doesn't know he is the same boy she loved. Not too bad and there is no drawn out angst. ...more

Our hero is a scientist whose profession isn't looked upon highly and one of the skeptics he encounters is the heroine, who is a widow and mother of a 7-year old genius boy. The hero too was a genius child who didn't fit in, and for a moment in high school was classmates with the heroine with a terrible crush on her. When the hero is contacted by heroine's aunt to solve the mystery of the ghost lady who haunts her B&B, they run into each other again. For years the heroine has been content raising her son but the hero stirs her up, emotionally, physically and even makes her start questioning her beliefs about ghosts. I did feel we never quite know how the ghost died....more

I absolutely adore how she doesn't shy away from depicting the ugly politic filled side of the army, the toll of war in this book.
Captain Ben used to be a believer once, protect his country, do good but now he can't muster up that belief anymore so his being asked to take on the mantle of leadership doesn't go down well with him but he has no choice. I loved this aspect of the book, Ben slowly taking charge and dealing with some major issues, the drug abuse of a colleague and accepting that he couldn't chase away someone else's demons yet giving that guy a chance to have a future. What did frustrate me was his blindness to the fact that a colleague was too far gone and could be guilty of harming his family.
Major Olivia Hale know how to pick her battles, she has been in the army long enough to know how thing work. She has scars from her upbringing and seeing Ben support his man doesn't sit right with her. Honestly, I liked how the book was so realistic in depicting army life, war and even the slow romance, I just wished we could have seen Ben and Olivia together a little more....more

The heroine Emily is new to the army and she has to put up with men being men but she wants to help people, even though most army-men want to avoid shrinks. Her parents do not understand her choices but Emily knows she can make a difference but we see her grapple with how. Reza and Emily clash over a man Reza is serving with and somehow keep coming into each others orbits. I loved how Reza helped Emily understand combat in a way, when Emily is there for him, actually everything about their relationship.
Honestly, I loved the book, it seemed real, all characters were human and flawed and even the romance wasn't sugary sweet, it was realistic. We see Reza fall of the wagon, deal with tragedy and accept he needed help and Emily was there for him all through.
Honestly, Jessica Scott brings the army and the people in it come alive and I love that she doesn't sugar-coat the ugly truths....more

A near death experience changed him, pulling him between his family and his men, so rather than dealing with his family he deploys over and over, pulling away from his wife and then his career implodes with accusations of impropriety and wrong-doing. He then decides to win back his family if he cannot salvage his career and he stumbles and Laura isn't sure she is ready to get her heart-broken again, she was patient, she waited for her husband to come back, but he never did and the silence hurt especially when rumours about her husband began to fly. I loved seeing these two slowly find their way back to each other and the best part was that we weren't given an instant solution and even when the book ends they are healing, finding the new them....more

While the heroine has spent her years raising her kids and earning money, the hero has been dating and floundering as a father. And then despite her baby-sitting his kids for years the hero gains an entry into the heroine's house and slowly her life. They have off the charts chemistry but the heroine doesn't indulge in affairs or date but somehow they can't keep their hands of each other. There is kids drama, miscommunication, a non-romantic proposal and HEA. All in all I enjoyed the book....more

All the kids, financial burdens? Making It Last is a novella that delves deeper into marriage.
Tony and Amber have been together thirteen years and married for ten. They have three kids and Tony works all the time because of the economy and Amber is left alone, ever since her youngest started school. She feels like nothing, like she is disappearing and on her brother Caleb's wedding in Jamaica Tony witnesses her distress and tells her to take a break.
This book is not all hearts and roses, it makes you ache, seeing Amber's loneliness, her inability to voice what she is feeling meanwhile Tony is doing everything he can to support his family. He knows something is wrong and the fear pushes him to go to Jamaica.
I have to admit I really enjoyed this book, it was one filled with emotion and showed that marriage needs hard-work and communication something that Amber and Tony had lost along the way. Amber was struggling and needed to tell Tony what she felt and find something for herself. Tony meanwhile had to learn to let go of some things. We see them struggle and prove that their love is still alive and well.
Making It Last proves that Ruthie Knox knows how to write complex characters and why she has become an auto buy for me.

Flirting with Disaster, the third book in the Camelot series is another excellent book by Ruthie. The book features the youngest Camelot sibling Katie, who spent her life pleasing others and what that got her was a husband, whose dreams she worked for and who took off, leaving her behind. So, she came back home, having not told anyone that she was married to her high school boyfriend, but now she is newly divorced and working for her brother's security company, off on her first assignment as a field agent and ready to start having sex again, so what if her target is a rock-star and that she is partnered with Sean, a guy she knows from high-school and who seems to dislike her so much so that he has never spoken a word to her. Nothing is going to stop Katie from living her life again.
Sean left Camelot long ago never looking back. He found success and help to overcome his stuttering but then his mom died and a visit to sort out her things has turned into months and a leave of absence from his company. In the meanwhile he is working with Caleb to occupy his time. Katie is a reminder of the crush he had on her when he was a teenager and suffering with stuttering, even now he can't talk to her, because he would stutter and that is embarrassing to him.
Wow, first off Sean was great. He was raised by a narcissist mother who never treated his stuttering seriously so much so that by the time he came to Camelot he had stopped talking all together in many ways. He took the courage to break free and never look back but when his mom dies and he comes back, he become paralyzed by guilt, anger and so many other emotions. That he is attracted to Katie is obvious but he doesn't want to take advantage of Katie, she has been hurt enough and he has a company to get back to.
I loved how Sean gradually revealed himself to Katie. At first Katie thinks, he is rude and hates her, then she learns about his stuttering, his mother and they grow closer. I loved the romance and the characters. Katie was great and what I loved was that this time she was not willing to keep herself second.
All in all I will fully recommend the book. It features an extremely hot hero who stutters and a heroine who wants to put herself first.
