I don't know if I was slow, but I seriously did not see the "secret" coming. Was it just me? I tried guessing at it, but I was honestly clueless, considering the "secret" was always there and constantly bugged me.
The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy was a very enjoyable read, and I am patiently awaiting the next Julia Quinn book. :)...more

It's has been a long while since Lisa Kleypas wrote historical romances. Her other most recent works were the Crystal Cove series, despite being good was definitely not as good as the Hathaways or the Wallpaper series. The Ravenels are definitely a delight!
Lisa Kleypas gives fans a solid and promising start for a ravishing series. (Though I have to say too promising as I cannot wait for book 2, Marrying Winterborne). All the secondary characters are very engaging and the most interesting for me aside from the MCs were West and Pandora!

If someone named a ship after me and got a jasmine tattoo on his face too, I would be swept off my feet. However, Griffin Barry's effort is a big major fail! His wife's name is not Poppy! It's Phoebe. The mistake is probably lucky, because as Phoebe said, The Flying Phoebe wouldn't sound so good on Griffin's ship.
Sir Griffin Barry was married to Phoebe when he was seventeen. Phoebe has been twenty at that time. Phoebe was every young man's dream, meanwhile Griffin had been lanky and short. On his wedding night, Griffin caved and was abducted. Phoebe only thought that Griffin had runaway.
Griffin had been a successful privateer, though he did start as a pirate. And after getting in a bad fight, losing a cousin and almost his leg, he decides to go home after more than ten years and continue his marriage. He comes home to a wife who doesn't want him and three children that couldn't possibly be his.
Seduced by a Pirate by Eloisa James is a very quick but fun read. I do think that the romance between the H/h was rushed. Despite them being married for years, I find it hard to believe that they could just carry on, as if the years between did not exist. After years of separation, a day of reuniting was all it took for the H/h to proclaim their love for each other.
But despite my complaints, I still found this book enjoyable, which is what matters....more
I got this free from the Kindle store, and the least I could do is like it, right?
But I am sorry, I did not.

I failed to relate to the characters and they remained unlikeable all through out the story. The protagonist Hartley St Clair Hughes, the duke of Derringer, is called heartless but he didn't strike me as heartless in any part of the book. Probably insensitive but not heartless. I really do not get the title. In the beginning of the book, he was already introduced as a kind spirit as he was willing to help Leandra Merrily Harcourt. Being a duke, Derringer could have had any girl he wanted but he picked Leandra because she had no means to support herself. Despite the time limit in which he had to find a wife to get his inheritance, I bet a duke could pick any girl he wanted.
Leandra, on the other hand, struck me as a woman with bipolar disorder. Here she is, agreeable this time, then suddenly mad the next. This happens all throughout the book and it was frustrating.
The love story between Derringer and Leandra was also not well developed. They were just suddenly in love but dodging the fact that they were.
There were also a lot of mysteries shuffling in the story, but not all of them were answered.
This book just frustrated me. Though I was able to finish it, my eyes were rolling most of the time. ...more
