Sam leaves her job after making a huge mistake that costs her firm millions of dollars. She has put her whole life into this job, trying to become partner, and now it's over. She has a major meltdown, and ends up miles from home in the middle of nowhere working as a maid to a family that doesn't know anything about her true identity. She also doesn't know anything at all about being a maid as you can probably guess by the title. This makes for an interesting hilarious ride. At one point she has no idea how to use an iron and tells her boss that she can't figure it out because she's "far more used to working with a Nimbus 2000" These little comments pop up everywhere making the book fly by and making you really root for this poor girl who hasn't got a clue. A bit predictable, but I don't read her books thinking I'm going to be digging into a literary masterpiece. The romance was cute, but there really wasn't much of it. Nothing but fun and laughter all the way through.
Sam was an extremely fun character to read about. She's funny, smart, and can really think quick on her feet. She shows genuine signs of maturity and growth throughout this quick read.
I really liked how the ultimate message was delivered, though. In the end Sam has to take a look at her life and really figure out what is important, and what isn't. Perhaps you are putting too much effort into something that gives nothing back.
This was my first book from Sophie Kinsella, but I will definitely read more of her books. Her humor is fresh, and if you go into this book solely expecting a light-hearted, fun read I think you will enjoy it.
Recommended to all of Sohpie Kinsella's fans, and all chick-lit lovers. She is the queen of comedy!

I had just finished another book and was wondering which book to start next. I saw this on my Nook and remembered you said it's her best book. This book really made me feel better when I was under the weather.
Emma is 25 and has been through many jobs. She has had a job in marketing for over a year now, and although she does okay, she's not exactly moving up the corporate ladder. She lives with her bff Lissy and has a boyfriend that she thinks is almost too cute and perfect. One day on a terrifying plane crash she turns to the man next to her and starts blabbering every random secret she has to the stranger next to her. She tells him everything including several things that could get her in trouble at work. A few days later when this stranger walks in her workplace and she's made aware that he is the founder of her company she is mortified. Can he keep her secrets?
I've gotten to the point where I feel like if you have reviewed one Sophie Kinsella book you have reviewed them all. The same things always apply. Laugh out loud humor, a loveable but usually quite clueless heroine, some barely there romance, and a picture perfect ending. They also usually include a subtle message from which the character learns something important about life. The fact that you know what you're getting when you go into one of her books can be a good thing or a bad thing. For me I like it. I know what to expect and she never lets me down. Note: I have read a few of her singles, but still haven't gotten to the Shopaholic series, so don't hold me to that.
My only complaint and reason for giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the predictability. See how I said it could go both ways? I like knowing what to expect, but I would also like a bit of surprise with the ending. This one had a formula that seemed so similar to "I've got Your Number" in regards to the boyfriend factor. Why bother giving the heroines a boyfriend at the start of the book? We always know how that's going to end. I know Sophie Kinsella has it in her to write something more original and unique for the chick-lit genre and when she does that's when I will give her my 5 stars.
Fans of Kinsella will not be disappointed with this one, and I agree with Jasprit. This is her best that I've read so far....more

I would normally never rate a chick-lit wibook 5 stars, but I did because as far as chick-lit books go this was a favorite. I am finding that I adore any book in which American girls travel abroad. I'm not sure if it's because I want to do it myself so badly or if it's just the escapism to a foreign place, but I just devour these books. Between Anna and the French Kiss and this I was in Paris heaven lately. Maddy is up to her usual antics so lovers of the series will love this book. The humor I've come to love with every Halliday book is present in abundance....more

This book is full of great quotes, too, but this is my favorite. It's something that is so obvious yet there are some people who seem to forget it!
It is an impressively arrogant move to conclude that just because you don’t like something, it is empirically not good. I don’t like Chinese food, but I don’t write articles trying to prove it doesn’t exist.
I was worried she would litter this book with cheesy lines that wouldn't translate well into a book, but honestly she had me hooked from the joke about girls thinking their period is supposed to be a blue liquid from the maxi-pad commercials.

I think RB is a pretty funny guy, so I picked up this book. Sometimes I am just in the mood to read about people who are self-destructive, and see their story unfold. This guy should be dead, jeez...He did so many drugs it's insane. This did not keep me reading, because honestly 90% of celeb books talk about some form of drug use. That's nothing new. His honesty and story telling ability kept me reading. He is quite the wordsmith! At times he comes off as a complete moron with some of the idiotic things he says, but then he comes right back with something that sounds genius. ...more
