It was eerie, truly terrifying and chilling to the core. The atmosphere was immersive and leaves you lingering in a constant sense of unease. The horror that Felix and Faye find themselves in is foreboding from the beginning and seems to grow into a nightmare on steroids as the story progresses.
I absolutely loved how the author, Felix Blackwell has taken great consideration with the Native American lore and treated it with care and respect.
I don't think that I've read anything by her and not liked it. Some books definitely more than others. And the Elsie Silver, the beauty that you are!
I don't think that I've read anything by her and not liked it. Some books definitely more than others. And the fact that this is a single dad romance... MY HEART !! Some stories really don't need a grand gesture for it to tug at your heartstrings. I loved the simplicity of this story. Weston and his kids, Emmy and Ollie, was what Sky needed to learn that the best kind of love is always unconditional, and not transactional. I loved her growth. Weston was, well, he was uh..., you know that kind of guy who is mostly goofy and the laugh line of a group. Someone who ensures that the people around him always have a good time in his company..? Yeah he is that guy. But good lord, the way he turned into this bossy, I-know-what-I-want-and-knows-how-to-get-it kinda hot was just .... *chefs kiss* ...more

A part of me understands the trauma that Eleanor has survived and the way it has impacted her personality physically and mentally. And it is because of that part, I empathized with her self isolation and taciturn, albeit a bit blunt and prickly nature. But when I seriously pondered on the ongoings of the story, my heart and mind could not in tandem understand what the story is trying to portray.
If I look at this book as a whole, I understand that this is the story of a survivor trying to survive in a world that she understands the way she has been asked to understand. I know that's a lot to understand and a lot of 'understand' in that sentence, but please bear with me here.
There were parts that were enjoyable, Eleanor could be a hoot whenever she wanted to. And sometimes it definitely comes across a bit insensitive and arrogant. but that's how she has been raised. But I could not comprehend the way she speaks and behaves after everything she had been through. Her mother had a way of grooming her, but then she did spend a lot of time in foster care, so why was she still talking like she was stuck in the Victorian era. Also, the story spends almost its entirety on Eleanor and her misgivings. The imaginary world and the real world she resides in, but what about the other characters. I know this is her story but I would've adored it even more if the other characters were given more read time.
It was an enjoyable read, but I was certainly expecting a lot more from the story....more

The story continues with Rico and Isabella. Their story was a lot different from Eli and Raina's. Isabella is a trained assassin hiding in plain sight at the blackwater university from a cult of assassins she escaped six years ago. Why is he hiding? Because she was supposed to unalive Rico Hunter, and she didn't. Rico hasn't forgotten the girl who spared his life and has been obsessively looking for her. Imagine his surprise when he finds her at the one place he didn't think her would find her. Thus begins a game of cat and mouse. Isabella trying to hide and deny her true identity, and Rico using every trick in the bag to reveal herself.
I loved Rico and Isabella's chemistry. Although it wasn't as explosive and chaotic as Eli and Raina's, but it had its moments. They were sweet at times, hot and spicy at others. Both of them were playing each other trying to hide their true selves, but eventually when the dam broke, wowza a lot of fireworks. But like I mentioned in my review of Alluring Darkness, the scenario's and situations in the book are definitely over the top, but the author manages to keep your attention invested in the story. ...more

Okay, hard truth - Fish eyes are delicious. If you are a pescatarian, and love fish, then fish head - the eyes and the brain are simply the best part. BUT that does not mean that you can evolve from eating fish eyes to human eyes ... *GAG*
And that primarily is where this story progresses to from a simple, emotional story of a Korean family of three- a mother and her daughters trying to survive after being abandoned by the husband/father. Apart from the obvious, cannibalism element of the story, The Eyes are the Best Part is also a character study of individuals. The trauma of family, the alienation an individual may feel due to immersing oneself in a different culture, and not just the alienation, it's also about the struggles and pains of trying to blend in so people don't look at you differently.
This is not a 'in-your-face' kind of horror. It's a horror that slowly but surely builds. It's feminine rage and revenge. It's disturbing on different levels. ...more

A worthy sequel to a very different sort of romantasy. This duology was such an amazing experience. After reading so many romantasy with so many similar tropes, I was in a funk of sorts. But this duology was enjoyable.
Ash and Feather deals with the aftermath of book 1. Karys is one of her kind, an Elf blessed with the powers of a God. She has to learn to use her powers as well as decide where she stands in the war between Humans, Gods and the Elves, while letting go off the guilt and fears that she carries in her heart. Dravyn and his love for Karys... * Chef's Kiss* ... And the spice.. Hot damn! Absolutely loved it.

Duuuuuuude! Why was this soooo over the top and I liked it! *cries*
Eli and Raina are crazy personified. The way these two crazies were at each other throats and umm other body parts. I can't with them. The relationship they share is soo chaotic and toxic but its soo fun. Raina really does have some screw loose when it comes down to how she was handling the whole situation.
Honestly, this story requires you to turn off your brain and throw common sense right out of the window. Like I mentioned earlier, almost everything about the story was over the top, a university for Hitmen's and Assassin's, Eli and Raina's first encounter, her reaction to that event and so many other events throughout the book. But looks like the author added some sort of crack because no matter how many times one would roll their eyes, the urge to see their story through will drive you to read till you reach the epilogue. ...more
What I love most about this series is that author has represented so many different facets in this series. Isaiah Rhodes, YOU HAVE MY HEART! <3 <3 <3
What I love most about this series is that author has represented so many different facets in this series. Body positivity, mental health, abandonment, found family love, healthy relationships etc. And this book was a nice addition to the series. Isaiah's character has a golden retriever energy to him, and he literally has a golden heart that loves to keep people around him happy. But that doesn't mean that he struggles with issues of his own. I looooooooooooved his devotion to Kennedy. It took a while for me to warm up to Kennedy. But together they were just the cutest! ...more

It's been a hot minute since I've enjoyed a fantasy/pnr romance lately but colour me surprised that this book was able to get me out of my romantasy/pnr funk.
Phantasma follows Ophelia, a necromancer from a generation of Necromancer's, who finds herself in a bit of a financial crunch and needs to pay off a debt that her mother had taken or lose her home, Grimm Manor, to the bank. Ophelia and her sister Genevive are not sure what can be done to ensure the Manor stays in the family. The solution to this problem comes in the form of Phantasma, an event that is designed by the devil himself where participants compete for nine days in nine challenges and the winner gets their wish granted. The event is held in an abandoned locality and the participants also need to face the different entities haunting that place. Phantasma also resorts to trickery by bringing your hidden fears and nightmares to life, either to discourage you from playing the game or by forcing you to make deals with the devils overseeing the game.
Genevive enters the game so that they can save the manor and Ophelia unwillingly participates to save Genevive. But fear and temptations run amok in the Phantasma. Can Ophelia save her sister and her heart and come out unscathed?
I loved the narration in the Audiobook. It was well done. The narrator did a good job in voicing the different characters. The pacing of the book was also moderate. The events in the book span across nine days and entirely revolves around the game and Ophelia's development as a character. We also meet Blackwell, the MMC who has also a certain charm to him, who intrigues and infuriates Ophelia to no end. The banter and romance provided a nice built up to the spice and boy was it good!
Kaylie Smith is a new to me author, so I do not have a benchmark to compare her with. But let me tell you, I liked what I read! The world building outside of Phantasma was not very elaborate but Phantasma, the event, definitely cooked. The challenges could've been a bit more enticing, and the stakes could've been a bit higher. The revelation or should I say the twist was also predictable, and I wished we could've spent more time with events that led to the origin of Phantasma.
To sum up the experience, Phantasma is a good read for readers who enjoy a gothic atmospheric setting, with trials and tribulations as the main trope. ...more

Was this book necessary in this series? No, absolutely not. But was it ridiculously binge-worthy? Yes, emphasis on ridiculous please, because what the hell was this story. Millie, Enzo and their kids move to this swanky neighbourhood, Millie thinking that her life has taken a turn for the better. Unbeknownst to her, Millie and her family have walked into something that will disrupt their lives.
Honestly, Millie annoyed me in this one and so did Enzo. Both of them were acting so out of their characters that we've loved in the previous books. The plotline was messy and the situations and the actions to those situations were ridiculous. The epilogue came out of nowhere but added a nice twist, but most of the events in the book could've been avoided if Millie could've been her usual self, rather than this insecure, jealous and weird self. ...more
