I sadly didn’t care for this book. I was excited because I like him on Dirty Jobs and as the narrator on The Deadliest Catch, so I assumed I’d enjoy his book, too. I assumed wrong. The writing is not bad by any means, the style and choppiness just wasn’t my thing....more

The five stars are for the quality of the writing and the book, but as far as adventurous storyline, I’d have to say that sadly this was my least favorite of the Millennium series. I know that my expectations were set pretty high since I have loved all of the previous books, but something just fell a bit short in this one for me. It didn’t delve as deep into the characters as usual, I think because there were so many different characters throughout the book. I still enjoyed it, but it wasn’t my favorite. I hope Lagercrantz is planning on another book in this series, because I would really like a better, and more memorable ending to this series! After all, we have grown along with these characters and have grown to love them! All in all, still glad I read this book, and will definitely read the next one....(that’s a hint to you Mr. Lagercrantz!) please write another book for us to envelop ourselves in!...more

Well, ugh. This is a weird one. Honestly i am surprised i finished this book. The only reason it got three stars is because of the ending. The first 75% of the book was BORING as hell. I literally almost stopped reading it a few times. However, the last 25% was actually the total opposite. It was written really well, it kept you reading, it kept you in suspense, and it was exciting to find out what was going to happen next. If the whole book was written that way it would be an incredible read! With that being said, i must clarify....the author definitely has talent, i am not denying that in any way. The story is where i was bored...but the writing itself was worth more!...more

It’s weird, generally I either love a book right away or not at all....on the few occasions that I enjoy the book eventually, but not right away, it’s because it usually has a rough start and I end up getting into it somewhere along the line. With this book, however, it seemed to be the opposite. I really enjoyed it in the beginning, but the further into it I read, the more bored and uninterested I became. And boy oh boy am I glad! I love writing poetry myself, at least I used to. I haven’t written any in a while, but now that I have read this it makes me want to get my poetry journal out and see what I can come up with! That is saying a lot, because I really don’t get inspired easily!
This book was extremely POWERFUL and MEANINGFUL. At least to me it was. Such profound poetry and important truths and realities being expressed in such a clever way! The artwork made the book that much more fun to read as well, while the design and placing of the words made you think. It really was a perfect combination of beauty and point! I am so glad I had the chance to read this, and even more glad that I get to say that I am a proud owner of this book so I can get it out and look back on it whenever I want!
I have taken so many quotes from this book and used them on so many things since reading it!...more

5 dang stars!!!!!!! I really enjoyed this book! The author is witty and fun, while still full of information to give! I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this book, as lately, self help style books haven’t been very good. Man was I wrong! I thoroughly enjoyed this read! I even found myself laughing from time to time. The author has a great sense of humor, and writes in an extremely relatable manner.
I found that I agreed with everything in this book! It really made me stop to think about how much I am distracted on a day to day basis, and what those distractions are. It was interesting to be aware of some of that, as it becomes almost subconscious.
I especially liked the part of the book about white noise. I have always needed white noise to sleep as well. I also feel more comfortable during the day when there is some form of white noise. It was interesting to see he mentioned “brown noise”, which I had never heard of prior to reading this book. I still want to look it up and get a better understanding.
I love the way the author feels so human. He is so relatable. I was pleasantly surprised by how well thought out and interesting this book was. It kept my attention until the very end!......IN OTHER WORDS, I WASN’T DISTRACTED!! LOL ...more

Ugh. Im not going to lie, this was a rough one for me. Honestly, i wanted to like it more than I actually did. I will say, in my opinion, it worse than the first book “House of God”. Something just didn’t work for me. It took me a long time to finish because i kept it at work, and only read it on my breaks occasionally.
It just really fell flat for me. At least HOG felt more real. This book felt more metaphorical...like it was playing at making different “points” over telling a story. I get that making points is part of storytelling, but it felt so forced here. If I didn’t feel obligated to finish it, I probably wouldn’t have. We will just leave it at that....more

I liked this book a lot. Being a recovering addict myself, i could closely identify with the people in this book! I have also seen first hand the way the groupies hangout at mcdonalds, barbershops, churches, motels, etc. I’ve been there myself! The pictures are great too! They really brought the book to life!
My only complaint is maybe spend more time on the people’s lives and less on their cities. The people are what we want to hear about!...more

I love poetry. The poetry in this collection is pretty good. However, it just didn’t pull at my heartstrings very much. Maybe it is because I have recently read another poetry collection (When You Ask Me Where I’m Going) that I couldn’t put down. It was incredible. Maybe I am comparing the two in ways that I shouldn’t. I am trying not to be biased in any way. Don’t get me wrong, this collection is definitely good...just not as moving to me personally. But with that being said, I also enjoy specific types of poetry to begin with. I feel like poems are hard to review because there are so many different ways to write a poem, so many different styles. So few rules....more

Holy smokes! There was A LOT captured in this book! I was a tad hesitant at first, not sure if it was really a book for me. I was proven wrong, and proven wrong quickly, at that!
Not only does this book touch on many different topics, it also makes you feel. Like, really, FEEL. Whether you have been through the exact same experience, whether you know someone who has, whether you don’t have any experience whatsoever with the points in this book, there is STILL something everyone can relate to! I feel like that is hard to say about a book. Especially a book about Cancer.
I am glad to have read this, and I feel wiser for it. My plan is to pass my copy on to a friend who after 20 years of dealing with cancer is FINALLY in remission. I think she will really enjoy this! Thank you!...more

Growing up, I used to LOVE watching Ty Pennington on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition!! I loved the before and after shots and the creativity of planning the kid’s bedrooms and play areas the most! It made me dream about my own fantasy house! That being said, I admit I am a bit biased towards Ty to begin with.
I loved this memoir. I love how he isn’t afraid to talk about his struggle with ADHD. I know this has probably helped many people and given others stories to relate to. You can’t have a better and more powerful book than that!
