I had no idea what to expect when I picked up this book, but what I got was a funny, engaging and honest story about an outsider just trying to fit in. I loved Biggie's internal dialogue, and while I am not a huge baseball fan, I found myself cheering at the games and becoming absorbed by the world of baseball. I had a lot of fun reading this book and would recommend. 4/5

I don't read a lot of chic lit books, but I'm glad that I went out of my comfort zone for this. The premise of a young(ish) women battling the dating game is not a new concept, but I felt that the witty dialogue and (mostly) relatable protagonist gave a fresh take on a popular plot concept.
For the first half of the novel I was in love and couldn't read it fast enough. At around the 50% mark the protagonist did start acting a little silly, and it broke the reality a bit (okay a lot). Luckily though there was only one real example that raised my brows and that was when Lauren calls her friend over to her desk to show her the latest dating guide attempt;
I called her over to my desk and showed her one of the cards, which involved a photo of my face superimposed onto a turkey and the words 'Gobble Gobble!' written about it. Inside a generic 'Happy Thanksgiving' message was followed by a personal appeal: This is the year I would like to find someone to have sex with and I need your help. If you know anyone suitable, please fill out the enclosed card and return it to me. Thank you! Lauren xx.
Over lunch, I signed and addressed cards to every single person I knew in London- Lucy and Cathryn, obviously, but also my landlord, cleaner, local off license clerk and everyone I had ever been on a date with. I briefly considered giving one to my boss but Cathryn talked me out of it.
She then goes on to complain about all the creeps responding to her sex advertisement.... i could go on but you get the point. Despite this rather ridiculous chapter I did highly enjoy majority of the book. Overall this is a very entertaining and humorous read and I would recommend it. I also thought the authors note at the back was a sweet little touch. 3.5/5

Okay that was supremely cheesy, but seriously this book elicits a physical reaction. I'll admit that I don't read a lot of thrillers so if this one was ripe with cliches or stereotypes it would not be noticed by me.
What was noticed by me however was a (literally) nail biting mystery that tugged and turned me in a million different directions. I had a love/ hate...okay mostly hate relationship with the main character, but the benefit of such a frustrating and unreliable MC was that I was just as confused and intent on discovering the truth as she was. I loved this book, the only thing I didn't love was that I doubt that I will be getting any sleep tonight. 4/5

As someone who has only read a handful of the books that these characters are based on, I can say that this can definitely be read as a standalone if you have not read any other works by this author. Of course you will get more out of this collection if you have read the Women of the Otherworld series, but it is definitely not a prerequisite.
My favourite stories have to be the Clay and Elena ones, I felt that the author was the most connected/invested to this couple, and that seemed to come across in her writing. However I did enjoy all of the stories. I think that short stories can sometimes be a hard sell, and for this author to succeed so splendidly in this endeavor ,really makes me hopeful for the future demand of short stories.

That's it! I give up!The constant racial descriptions exclusive to that of only “dark skinned”, “chocolate” and “ midnight black” skin has driven me to such frustrations that I can no longer continue reading this book. I find it offensive that the author expects me to assume that everyone is white unless awkwardly described in some “creative” way as black. Just way too awkward, way too forced, way too annoying.
Despite my huge issue with the above, I also had other problems with this story. I found all of the characters to be pretty annoying, especially Laney. Cant a girl be feisty without being a massive bitch? I also found the protagonist's friends introductions to be random and forced, and a little too convenient for my tastes.
I keep finding myself being drawn to this author because I love his plot concepts, and while this was no exception, the execution just didn't cut it for me. In general I liked where the story was heading, but there were just too many needless distractions in this book that took me out of “ the moment”. I tried to finish this and I am sure that there are some interesting twists ahead, but unfortunately for me I am not willing to trudge through the bad parts to find the good. 2.5/5

When I requested this book for review, I really had no idea what to expect. I don't normally read mystery novels, but for whatever reason (perhaps the awesome cover) this caught my eye. For once my superficial cover lusting payed off!
I am always a sucker for witty dialogue and this book had it in abundance. Each character had their own unique brand of humour and quirk, and for me this was the icing on the cake of an already awesome book. The plot kept me guessing to the end and I was honestly surprised when the villain was unmasked.
I am always appreciative when a story leaves a smile on my face and since The Rain Soaked Bride went above and beyond in the entertainment department I will definitely be reading more from this author.

I am always on the hunt for the mythical gem of a free book. Unfortunately this book did not live up to my hopes. The story took me a while to finish due to lots of slow spots, and it was a real struggle not to skim most of this book. My main issue was the characters, to me they felt unreal and more importantly unrealistic. This made it hard for me to connect to anyone and therefore I didn't really care what happened to the characters.
I do think that the plot had potential, and it could have been executed more successfully if the plot had not been so choppy. I felt like this book was trying to do too many things at once and therefore wasn't able to focus properly on any one idea.
I don't think that this book is terrible but I also would not recommend this. I wouldn't be opposed to reading more from this author, but I think I will be skipping the rest of this series.

This story touche This book was nothing like I expected, and I loved it! Ryan Gladney blew my mind with this amazing and sophisticated gem of a novel. This story touched my soul in such a way that I have to pause and wonder if it was fate that I won the giveaway for this. Sorry if my gushing induces any eye rolling, I am just so in love with this book.
Nine lives of Adam Blake is the kind of book that just makes everything click, and put everything in perspective. It's the kind of book that you devour late at night, and when you finish the last page and close the book, you stare in a daze wondering what the hell kind of magic just happened.
The writing is effortless and flows seamlessly. The main character is supremely relatable and the plot kept my interest, there was never a part of this book where I was bored or wondering when it was going to end, and for a book with a plot centering on a man who lives the same life over and over again that is very impressive.
I will definitely be keeping an eye on this author, my hat is off to him for this impressive debut. 5/5

Loved this book. Ivy is amazing, I want to be her! Although admittedly not in her situation. The relationship between her and Bishop was perfect and I found myself rooting for them well before the first kiss. I hate how whenever I really love a book I can never write a good review!
I love Dystopia's so I may be biased about this book but I felt that it was really well done. The world felt authentic and the author wrote it so crisply and fresh.(Crisply? See I can't write a review to save my life). The pacing, the characters ,the plot all kept me rapt with attention. I literally read this in one setting and I cannot wait for the sequel which I am confident will be just as good if not better than the original.
This Dystopian is not as brutal as some, but it still really makes you question your morals and I love books with grey morals. I loved how conflicted this book made me feel about the "bad" guys and the "good" guys. I can't wait to explore more of this amazing world that Ms.Engel has created.

This is quite possibly the worst historical novel that I have ever read. I don't know what time period this book is supposed to be set in, but the way everyone acted was very modern.
There was such a huge strain of believability with the main character, I mean in the first 20% of the book she has a crush on three different guys. She is also tutored privately by a soldier with no proper chaperone, and has countless physical intimacies with men.She also greats men in her rooms wearing a robe.....so unrealistic. The only good thing that I can say about this book is, thank god it's short.

I haven't read a book that fast in ages. I am a fan of books that cover a protagonists entire lifetime, however I feel that they can be hard to do right. They either end up being too long and forcing you to skim, or too short and leave you feeling like there are holes in the story. This book was a good middle ground between the two. I thought that the way the story was told (with Addie telling the story of her life to her granddaughter), was a clever way of jumping around a large time-line without the story feeling disjointed.
The Boston Girl has a little something for everyone in it, and I loved how there were lots of funny and lighthearted chapters, but also darker realities weaved throughout the story. Addie is a very lovable main character who happens to be a great storyteller to boot.

I felt that Lilly was an extremely authentic character, and my only teeny tiny issue was that she read a bit younger than a fifteen year old.
I was up all night finishing this book, and that makes me really excited to see what Joann comes up with next because I will definitely be keeping an eye on her work.
My only advice to the author/publisher is to perhaps consider a cover change, a book this beautiful deserves a beautiful cover, and while Tin Lilly's current cover is okay I don't feel like it captures the novels soul.
Overall I would definitely recommend this book 5/5!

I can't remember the last book I read where the main characters were so loveable. This had me rooting for them the entire time. Jata is a little ray of sunshine that often had me chuckling, and Muchoki is just an amazing child with characteristics that many adults, including myself would be wise to try and copy.

When I found out about the country series I was drawn in, although hesitant as it was a sister series to the Dwellers. But the good news is I liked this book!
It took me quite a while to get into however, the first 50% of the book felt pretty slow and the dialect writing took a bit of getting used to, I also felt that there was an overwhelming abundance of similes in this book and I was not a fan of that.
Now onto what I liked:
- I enjoyed the setting of Fire Country, I've read a lot of Dystopians but this world was different than many others that I have visited. The imagery was so strong in this book that I needed a glass of water nearby when I read it.
- I felt that the characters were realistic and the plot kept me interested.

I would recommend this book if you're looking for a fresh read.

As someone who has tried a lot of different styles of eating I find it amusing when other people do the same. I am always curious about fad diets, but am consistently too lazy to pursue them myself, so reading about someone doing them for me is a perfect set up.
In all seriousness though I have struggled with my weight in the past so I find books about weight very interesting, although I lean more towards weight memoirs then doctor books. Ironically enough when I did lose my excess weight, it wasn't from the help of a book. However my love of these little gems will never fade.

Comedy is so subjective that I don't even check reviews when picking out such books because it's just too difficult to rate. There are many popular humour books that I absolutely hate, luckily this was not one of them.
I often have a hard time with female comics(I know I know I'm betraying my gender) but seriously I just don't find most female comics funny. There seems to only be one available subject for these women and that is sex(usually going on and on about what a "big whore" they are...Amy Schumer I'm looking at you).
What I enjoy(and what this book delivers on),is the other less popular but still entertaining subject of "bad mom humour", and I must admit that I am a sucker for this.
