i'm kind of pissed rn because i thought it was a standalone lol, but it wasn't, and now i have to wait for another book EVEN THOUGH THIS WASN'T SO SPECIAL. the murder mystery plot is actually interesting though, so i might read the other one when it comes out.
i thought it was a mafia romance, but it's not. it revolves around the murder that happened 20 years ago — sebastian thorne's mother was killed by the covenant, aka the cult. they all act like innocent people, and nothing was ever proven. now he wants to know what really happened and get answers, so he planned to kidnap the governor's daughter and blackmail them.
⌞Sebastian Thorne & Rosemund Trudeau⌝ ᯓ 28-24
nvm, he fooled them, gained their trust, and also made friends with rose. everything was fine, and he very cleverly manipulated her and kidnapped her. if you've read acotar, then the whole covenant community, alderwood, is just like velaris. a small peaceful city where everyone is eQuAl.
sebastian's pov was kind of fun because he was roasting the shit out of her father, but rose's pov was so dumb, i was actually having secondhand embarrassment. like, i get it, you're born in a cult where they don't have modern technologies and have rules and shit, BUT isn't she human enough to wish for things like love, marriage, or children? she was like a proper sacrificial goat, and the way she described things like the entity, darkness, light, soul, and other superficial terms—I was so fucking bored because girl, STOP!
and she did NOT refer to periods as MONTHLY MOONBLOOD ...more

if you're interested in psychology, then this is for you. otherwise, you'll be bored.
i thought it had romance, but it doesn't! there wasn't much romantic content, and Grayson was shown obsessed and fixated on London from the start. i thought their sessions together would be romantic, but even those were just about psychology or different disorders.
⌞Grayson Sullivan & London Noble⌝ ᯓ serial killer - psychologist
Grayson Pierson Sullivan is hot, and i support him killing other monsters, but he's way too delusional lol. i personally found London a somewhat better person in the start, but after Grayson kept calling her a narcissist and diagnosing her, even though he's not THE ONE who's a psychologist, she started acting like it? idk what i missed, but i don't even want to know. and he was way too obsessed with knowing her repressed secrets.
her whole thing about killing her father and needing answers also bored me. i was just here for the romance, but it was literally 10% of the story, if that. BUT i did love how London lied to the court and left him to die because he was threatening her hsjsjs served him right. he buried her alive afterwards is silent.
why did she think it was a good idea to confess in front of a sadistic manipulator that she killed her father? the reasons were justified whatsoever, but she shouldn't have confessed no matter how liberating it felt. because it was obvious that he'd blackmail her? ...more
as I said, the first one was borderline sketchy with consent, but this one was tiptoeing between rape and dubcon. I thought I'd feel that way f3 stars
as I said, the first one was borderline sketchy with consent, but this one was tiptoeing between rape and dubcon. I thought I'd feel that way for book one, but nope, this one was it. this book didn’t give much to the plot (the whole secrets thing), but it did explore more of their relationship!
⌞ It picked up right from book 1. They spent the majority of the book fighting, traveling, and fucking. That’s it. ⌝
personally, i didn’t like the placement of the past scenes because they were in between the ANGSTY chapters, and I wanted to read the present scenes at that time lol. but the past scenes were good and gave insight into their relationship!
I’m literally so fucking sad for Jasmine. Even though she acted indecisive and maybe is kind of too trusting and naive, I don’t hate her. She’s left with no choice, and it’s not like she gave in to Roth—he just forced her until she had to. It was so freaking angsty, and I love how she never once had sex with him without a brutal fight. Though his whole "your body reacts to me" and her "my body sings for him" made me angry ☺️
James Roth is truly a bitch, i swear. again, mentioning it— it's a crime not getting his pov. He’s so manipulative and cruel with his words. Sometimes, he’s so fucking nice that you’ll love him so much, and then he’ll pull the rug out, and you realize he truly is an asshole. i hated him. i hated him so much sometimes, but then I loved him. His actions showed he cares for her, but his words... as he said, "he’s not good with words." I agree.
- Around 50% in, when he told her she was a lonely, neglected girl and that he took advantage of her in the beginning, fucked her, and left, what Jasmine felt was so freaking depressing ...more

I don't know how many years i have to wait now for 3 more books, probably 2030 but fine. i'm mentally drained because of JasRoth because what the fuck is wrong with them? most importantly, with Roth. and in these whole three longggg books they've just been together for 40 days. F O R T Y.
i don't understand his hot and cold behavior. this started off good. the confessions and misunderstandings from the past were KIND OF cleared, and Roth became a full teddy bear and promised her that he'd try to be the best version of himself and all. i'm like fine because at least he's about to try. i never expected groveling, so it didn’t matter that there was none.
BUT
after 75%, HE CHANGED? like a complete shift from that soft Roth to the previous asshole that he was in books 1 and 2, and Jasmine was just mentally exhausted and hurt by this because ONCE AGAIN she made a fool of herself. this wasn't it, the chapters are so fucking long, and i mean it, SO FUCKING LONG that the whole BALL scene took 100 pages? ...more

i was seriously here for the vibes. I don't think the author even knows what to make of the plot, and the reason the whole society of 6 was after Jeremiah and Sid was so lame. Most of the topics were brushed off as if they didn't really matter.
this follows right after book 1, so it's not a standalone! this whole series is connected. and it has somewhat sharing moments (not threesome).
“My feelings for Jeremiah aren’t too different than my feelings for Lucifer, and that makes me feel…gross.”
Sid is so fucking indecisive, i can't. She couldn’t even decide who to trust (understandable), but one minute she hates Jeremiah, the other she realizes that he's her safe place and she loves him. It's the same with Lucifer, she hates him but then fucks him. Luce was right about saying that this girl is predictable because SHE LIKES SEX.
She was sold to different men throughout her life as in foster families, she killed them and didn’t cower, and that made her a liability? like bffr
Lucifer is also freaking indecisive! Even though he had cute moments and I did like some scenes, he was clueless. He didn’t even know what to do, and all his "I HAVE TO LET HER DIE" shit was confusing. again, one moment he is like 'i hate her' but the next he's all possessive & jealous.
“I’ve always wanted to fuck you.”

i still cry over that trilogy because i lovedd it and wanted to read more from the author because HOW BAD CAN THIS BE? i swear if you're hesitant to read it after seeing mixed reviews, please stay that way. this is way too incestuous.
and i don't know why it only applies to biological siblings and not to siblings who've lived with each other for more than 11 years. like does the feelings not count?

I don't even know how I'm feeling right now after reading this. I’m going to develop a new personality soon! THIS BOOK WRECKED ME. It’s the first in the series, and it was so messed up that I’m jumping to the next one immediately. Kade's obsession with Stacey is something I'll never forget!
• KadeStacey (21), have been obsessed with each other since they were 15. They became intimate when they were 18 and fell in love. But something happened between them, and they fell apart. Now, Kade despises her way too much.

“She’s the girl I watch, the girl I obsess over until I feel like I’m going fucking insane."
Kade Mitchell is a complicated character. He’s got a lot of layers—psychotic, obsessive, but also deeply emotional, even though it’s hard for him to express it. As a teenager, he had a vulnerable side, always panicking and nervous around Stacey. But after their breakup, he went down a dark path, getting involved with the wrong people. He’s badly traumatized, and I literally sobbed because of what he was going through. Reading his pov, seeing how he retreated into his own mind, feeling the emptiness that consumed him, was heart-wrencing. They could never make me hate him ...more

What in the literary garbage?! Calling this a book is an insult to trees that died for its paper. I love happily ever afters, always. But i would've loved it if this ended with Violet dumping that daddy's fucking princess 'Greyson' because THAT BITCH IS SO DELUSIONAL & UGLY!
I never had expectations for this book, i knew it would be bad, but it turned out worse. I just wanted to read book three, and damn if I didn't suffer from this.
• Whiny daddy's little princess Greyson is the dumbest, ickiest, and ugliest motherfucker ever alive. My anger issues are not in check because this guy? He's a piece of shit. I can't believe he tried to bring daddy issues into his personality because dude, fuck off, no one gives a shit. he had the audacity to be angry at her for FORRRRR FILING A LAWSUIT BECAUSE HE ENDED HER CAREER??!!
• Violet is just horny. tbh I don't even want to blame her because she got blackmailed a lot by Greyson, BUT she could've been stronger (my previous read's FMC would've killed Greyson if he so much as said a word to her). But here she was literally defenseless. I mean, make him obsessed and dump his ass gurl!
It copied the cutest MF scene from my favorite book, The Deal, in the worst way possible, and the mystery here sucked. It was boring and made this book even more unbearable.
• Aside from:
- Shattering Violet's leg in a car accident while being drunk - Blaming it on the girl that was with him - Blackmailing and leaking her video with her boyfriend, labeling her as a 'slut' - Dumping wine over her head in public and making crude remarks - Making her give a blowjob to his friend Steele and then having a BJ too - Finger-fucking her forcefully against a wall + cutting her breath at that time too - Kissing another girl in front of the whole university after having 'forced sex' with her - Pressing her scars - Even after half the book, having the girl named Paris cling to her - The worst? When he tackles her to the ground, HE DIDN'T EVEN TURN HIS BACK TO THE GROUND (bitch how dare you!!!!)
Umm... Erik's character was kind of mysterious and cool ig?, but guess what? HE'S NOT GETTING HIS FUCKING BOOK ...more

All the books have insta-love and are similar in one way or another, but they're extremely short to even care. I truly enjoyed this one, but it would be unfair to give this book a proper rating because the author plagiarized 'Morally Ambiguous' by Veronica Lancet.
Sergei's character is my favorite, of course, it would be considering he's a teeny-meeny version of Vlad Kuznetsov, but this book didn't do justice to his character because his trauma should've been explored more! Angelina was the same as other girls!
It's a pattern, the traumas aren't discussed well, they're in love too quickly, and the girl being a damsel in distress and the boy being the knight in shining armor in the end is constant!
➳ Rec – If anyone wants to read about a cute psycho who has episodes and a girl who can calm him, with great character development and groveling, I'd definitely recommend "Morally Ambiguous" (which is also getting published again and is becoming a duet).
