This was fantastic and I’m shocked that it was published in 1989 because it reads like any modern historical romance. The characters are so well fleshed out (I’m in love with Royce westmoreland) and the writing is gorgeous. Not to mention that this book is genuinely laugh out loud funny. The romance is to die for, the characters are instantly loveable, and the plot is filled with ups and downs. The only reason it isn’t a full 5 star is because Jennifer did get on my nerves more than was necessary in the final act of the book (because why was she so naïve??). I’m now on my way to read the rest of Judith’s historicals ASAP ...more

The complexity of life as a young girl has perhaps never been so well articulated as it has been in this novel. The added layer of comfort with this being set in Italy made everything more relatable. I need to take a break before I read the sequel because this is a book that peers into your soul. One of the most haunting, jaw dropping final lines a novel can possibly ever have. I think about it a lot ...more

This is hands down one of the best light romances I’ve ever read, if not *the* best. Willa and Cade are bursting with personality on their own, which makes the romance and dynamic between the two of them so engaging and compelling to read. The plot is so perfect that it moves the story along but doesn’t overshadow the romance. All of the side characters enhanced the story, and luke was adorable!!! I can’t get over the humour and chemistry either. Truly an amazing romance <3...more

A few times in my life I've read the first five or so pages of a book and instantly known that it'll have a part of my soul in its pages. That happened when I read the opening ball scene of Where Dreams Begin. This book is like saturated sunlight on a crisp fall day. Like a warm cup of tea that you warm your hands with as you watch your favourite soap opera. The second Holly and Zachary meet, you can feel the connection between them like sparks flying. You can tell they they're soulmates. Their relationship was absolute perfection. The longing, yearning, joking, small moments, and comfort they found in each other was incredibly real. I've rarely rooted for a couple more than I did for them. This book made me cry for how many emotions I felt while reading their story. Zachary Bronson is hand down one of my favourite male leads in any novel ever, and Holly Taylor has an extremely special place in my heart. Without a doubt, this is one of my all time favourite novels. ...more

OMG. LAURA THALASSA HAS DONE IT ONCE AGAIN. I read her bargainer series last summer and absolutely adored it. This? This was just as good, if not better. I know. The world of the witches is exquisitely crafted, with such vivid spells and magic described. I loved all of the coven setting vibes!! SELENE. LOVE OF MY LIFE. She is SUCH an amazing MC!!! Her sense of humour is amazing, she feels so realistic, and she’s just …. so lovable. I cannot say enough times how fun her POV is!! Seriously, her character is relatable in a way I find is so hard to see in romance fantasy books these days. AND MEMNON?! okay. So yes he is a bit crazy and definitely out of his mind BUT. BUT. He is hot as hell. Seriously. His character is so fucking intriguing, and I am dying to know exactly what he’s done in the past. Although to be fair if a guy did half the stuff he did to Selene in real life I’d hate him with a passion like she did, but there was something so romantic about him as well. His endearments for Selene??? The scene where he heals her?? Take my heart. Make of that what you will ! The romance. Oh my god. This is the perfect ‘I don’t want to love you but I do’ romance. The push and pull of Selene and Memnon is SO compelling and intriguing to read about. The fact that they’re soulmates just adds more layers and depths to their relationship. I wanted them to get together and also never see each other again - it’s such an interesting dynamic. I am so excited for more layers to be peeled back in this series!! The plot? Is so so good. Laura manages to bewitch readers with this book. Yes see what I did there. ...more

Adalyn Grace’s writing is simply phenomenal. It’s improved so much since her debut novel, which I DNF’d. All issues I had with that have been resolved in this one. Her prose is luscious and atmospheric, evoking the writing of Gothic literature. She is able to convey feelings and thoughts so well in this novel. Her descriptions of settings are so well detailed and lyrical, Thorn Grove felt real. Some of the lines of encouragement Death spoke to Signa spoke to me as well - I just felt such a connection to this book.
Signa Farrow is one of my favourite heroines I’ve read about in a long time. Her journey from being isolated, lonely, and scared to embrace herself to being confident, with love, and with power - it was such a beautiful journey. I related to some of the things she felt and she’s just a very relatable character to me. I suppose one of the reasons I loved this book is because I see myself in Signa. She’s such an amazing character.
