I found myself captivated by Ren, the protagonist, and was deeply invested in her journey. The worldbuilding was filled with intrigue and danger, making Ren’s adventure quite enchanting. I was especially intrigued by the evolving dynamic between Ren and Prince Oak. Their chemistry added a layer of excitement to the story, and I couldn’t help but anticipate each new development in their relationship. By the end, I felt that Ren’s adventure was just beginning. I wasn’t ready for it to be over, and now I can’t wait to see how the rift between Ren and Oak will be resolved. Holly Black set up the story well for future twists, and I’m excited to see where Ren’s journey will lead in the next book in the series....more

It was a seamless blend of romance and otherworldly intrigue. Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth invaded by parasitic aliens known as Souls, who take control of human bodies, erasing their original personalities. The protagonist, Melanie Stryder, becomes a host for Wanderer, a Soul. However, Melanie's consciousness fights back, creating an internal struggle between the two beings sharing one body.
Melanie's determination and rebellious spirit, along with Wanderer's internal journey of understanding human emotions, created a dynamic and engaging narrative. And what is Romatasy without a love triangle? Ian and Jared, one in love with the soul and the other with the heart and body, added some emotional layers that complement the broader themes.
I love the imaginative and thought-provoking world-building. I was wholly immersed in the unique and vividly depicted world. I did not want to part with the characters and the world. It was a beautiful read. Five stars....more

Adding to the overall enjoyment of the book is the theme of power, revenge, and redemption explored throughout the book, balanced with prompts for some reflection on deeper moral issues.
I had a great time with this read and can’t wait for more of Ash and Maddox in the next book in the series. Five stars....more
This was a captivating and imaginative story that seamlessly weaves together themes of love, loss, and the pursuit of identity. I am African and lovedThis was a captivating and imaginative story that seamlessly weaves together themes of love, loss, and the pursuit of identity. I am African and loved that the story was set in a richly imagined world inspired by West African folklore.
The story follows the lives of two compelling protagonists, Malik and Karina, whose paths intertwine in unexpected ways. Malik, a grief-stricken young man, finds himself entangled in a deadly plot when a chance encounter leads him to make a dangerous bargain. Meanwhile, Karina, a princess forced to assume a new identity, faces her own challenges as she navigates a treacherous court filled with political intrigue.
The world-building was remarkable, integrating elements of African culture, folklore, and mythology, and creating a vivid and immersive setting.

The interplay of political power struggles and magical challenges added an extra layer of intrigue, especially as Blue clandestinely wielded her illegal magic to assist the city's orphans through her experiments. The well-developed characters left me longing for more time in the story's world. It was an exceptional read. 5 stars....more

FanIt is always a triumphant finale when the good guys win and the bad guys lose and pay for their evilness (Yeap! my very own personalized Webster). Fantasy of Freedom was a remarkable conclusion to the series. There were so many parallels to our current world and the divide that exist between us, that I couldn’t help but dream that someday we will be better. That a day will come where the colour of our skin, our gender, or whatever manufactured societal caste system we create won’t determine our worth. Enough babbling. As usual, I enjoyed the twists and turns, the vivid descriptions of the landscape, and the well crafted dialogue between the characters. My favs still being Lina and Jovan. Five stars....more

What a fantastic read! Noni's writing created a vivid and immersive world that is both terrifying and captivating. The main character, a seventeen-year-old Kiva Meridan, was a skilled healer who was imprisoned in the notoriously brutal Zalindov prison. Kiva was sentenced to life imprisonment for a crime she did not commit, and spent her days tending to the sick and injured prisoners, while trying to keep her own secrets hidden. The other characters in the book are also well-developed, each with their own unique backstory and motivations. I was entranced by Jack and Adaira in the first book but they sacrificed their love for each other for the safety of their people. I was curious about what that means for the future of the East (Termalaines) and West (Breccans), and the fate of humans and spirits alike. I loved how in the end, it took a united front from humans and spirits to lift the curse, strife, and enmity, bringing balance again to the Isle. It was wholly engrossing and entertaining. Bound by Firelight was just as fabulous as the first book. Adraa, the protagonist was flawed but fierce. In the face of overwhelming opposition by her own people, family, friends, and a formidable foe, she overcame. The moral of the story… don’t give up doing good, it pays off in the end…It helped that she had someone like Jatim and many others leading the charge in her defence. The chemistry between those two was palpable. Arranged marriages can be sometimes tricky. But it wasn’t so with this pair. It was so beautiful to see their love blossom, and outside of the confines of marriage. I love Adraa’s creativity and inventiveness, she can hold her own both with magically and politically. Everything came crashing in the end and I can’t wait to to see how all the tangled webs in Adraa’s life come loose in the next book in the series. 5 stars....more
