death and loss of someone are some topics that *will* make you upset and sad. if you're a sensitive person like me, you're bound to cry, but this was not what that made the book a very bad experience for me.
1) poppy's "I'm not like other people" attitude: It completely pissed me off. Nothing else but that attitude. Here look for yourselves"
“I’m the girl who wakes up early to watch the sunrise. I’m the girl who wants to see the good in everyone, the one who is taken away by a song, inspired by art.”
2) Rune and his father's relationship: sheesh boy, we get it you're not happy with the move but something tells me you would be the first one to hurt your father when he wouldn't be able to feed you.
3) Rune's "bad boy" image and all the other cliches: enough said about that. this book had such a lovely idea, with the worst possible execution.
4) The most infuriating of them all - THE EPILOGUE: WHY? Just Why Would You Even Do That?

What the actual hell was this book. [image]
I'm not even sure if this deserves to be called a book. It was literal piece of trash.
Let's get to what I hated: 1) The Plot: It began with the plot and it fucking ended with the plot. I was promised a book where there would be tension, angst, and instead what i got was literally nothing but a piece of garbage.
2) The characters: We had the classic group of people: the bully, the joyous helpful friend, the person who had been betrayed in the past, the devoted, loyal helpers and the swoony interest who literally has no experience (it just comes naturally to him.)
the book has almost consistent contrasts in it. for example: like i said, Maxon has no experience with girls, he has never dated but all girls are falling hard for him without him even trying. *wow*
another one, Maxon is the most compassionate members of the royalty but has no fuvking idea about the condition of people in his country until, guess what, until our hardworking poor America makes him aware.
Similarly, throughout the book, it is difficult to read what America is/wants. sometimes, she wants Aspen but the other freakin second, she'll be pouncing at Maxon. She doesn't want Maxon but gets mad at him for not telling her he loves her. Um-mm, excuse me, WHAT?
3) The names: The lack of creativity (or, perhaps I should say the lack of originality too) embarrasses me. For heavens' sake, who names a girl AMERICA?!? Her last name is 'Singer' and lo and behold, she is a singer by profession too! To top it off, the king is named Clarkson. ...more
