Without a Doubt (Young Detective Dave Burrows)

'Listen to the cover' I kept telling myself. Covers don't lie. I thought it was the Romance issue but no, I think it is more likely the generic nature, the formula. This was a romance novel with no romance. It was also a novel with no likeable characters and an Aussie bush that had more of a wild west US feel. I would have been more enamoured if it was set in Kansas City. I nearly stopped reading at 'sidewalk' but continued to about half way and then stopped. I just thought that I had no interest in what happened to any of the characters from here on in.
The Aussie outback is harsh and bleak, but it is also fascinatingly beautiful, with fun filled characters everywhere. Pubs are just about all great places to visit, have a drink and a meal. I have spent a lot of time over my life in many of them. US bars are another thing again, often dismal and dangerous. They are poles apart.
Definitely not my cup of billy tea.
