4.75 stars. Well this was completely unexpected. Utterly flawed me. I thought it would be basically a re-telling of the story from the first book in the duet, “Unrequited”, but from West’s perspective. Wasn’t I wrong!
Swoon /5 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Angst /5 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Steam /5 ♨️♨️ ♨️♨️♨️
Plot /5 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐
LOLs /5 🤭🤭🤭🤭
The first half, in first person POV from West, is just as hard as it was to read Andy’s pining in “Unrequited”. West loves Andy deeply, but feels just as fearful about losing the friendship so stays quiet. He’s eloquent about how Andy makes him feel, and it’s especially enlightening to see his understanding of his sexuality change over time, and his eventual self-acceptance that allows him to reveal his feelings to Andy.
I can’t tell you much, so as not to spoil the surprise, but there is a massive plot twist halfway through that makes you question EVERYTHING. Very clever writing, but you need to pay attention to figure out what’s happening.
I’ve loved both these books, and think it’s some of the best writing Jesse has done. There’s a depth of emotional understanding in this duet that really tugs at the heart, and I have a pretty big book hangover. West & Andy have definitely joined my group of “best book boyfriends” 💗
