Have a favorite monster you'd like to see on a wheel? From a book, non-Greek mythos, movie? Share here, new wheels and monsters will be periodically added :)

Jenny | 7639 comments Doctor Who monsters- Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, etc.

Human monsters- Hannibal Lector, Iago, Nurse Ratched, etc.

Or, ones we would like to fight beside- Murderbot, Thor, R. Daneel Olivaw, etc.

Hmm, human monsters is interesting never thought about going that route.

Also, I have never seen an episode of Doctor Who so I don't know anything about those monsters unless they popped up in other things (books, movies, whatever)

The other Sandy | 273 comments Kaiju: Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Anguirus, King Kong, Gamera, Daimajin, Gappa, Guilala, Yonggary, etc.

Cthulhu mythos: Cthulhu, Star Spawn, Deep Ones, The Elder Things, Shoggoths, Yithians, Ghouls, Zoogs, etc. (there are loads of them, but Goodreads wouldn't let me post the link to the Wikipedia page).

Stephen King could provide his own long list of monsters... human and otherwise, lol.

Never seen Doctor Who!?! Judith! Really, that just won't do. we will have to educate you :D

(Once we do you'll realise that a sink plunger is in fact one of the more terrifying objects in the world. Teehee!

message 6: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7639 comments Sammy, do you agree that "Blink" is the gateway drug to Doctor Who?

message 7: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 11586 comments Sci-fi monsters in general?

Sarlaccs, Rancors, Wampas, Sandworms, Cylons, Terminators, Facehuggers (Xenomorphs), Predators, The Blob...

message 8: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 11586 comments Jenny wrote: "Sammy, do you agree that "Blink" is the gateway drug to Doctor Who?"

That was the first thing I watched that scared me since I was a little kid and hid behind the sofa from the Daleks! lol.

message 9: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 3989 comments You could mix it up and have a domestication wheel versus slaying so mythical creature you might want as a pet

message 10: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 3989 comments Jenny wrote: "Sammy, do you agree that "Blink" is the gateway drug to Doctor Who?"

That was the first one I was shown in college when I started watching, though I have seen none of the newer seasons

message 11: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 11586 comments *disclaimer* I stopped watching when Matt Smith left. Having said that, I may be tempted back by the return of David Tennant... :)

message 12: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 3989 comments I stopped a few episodes into Peter Capaldi's doctor as well. I did not know David Tennant was returning.

message 13: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 11586 comments Well, he's only coming back for 3 episodes, but it's a start, lol.

message 14: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 11586 comments So he's both the 10th and the 14th doctor :D

Funny aside here, several UNOs ago I was on the Doctor Who UNO team. Literally no one on the team had seen a single episode of Doctor Who.

I think poor Karen had to have a lie in to recover from the shock. LOL

Angie ☯ | 2686 comments I second that! a Dr Who Monster wheel would be great!

message 19: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7639 comments I was just working on a list of classic tv monsters earlier this evening!
Most of them were from Doctor Who.
Although, I had to look up how to spell Sleestak!

Anyone? Memories?

message 20: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 2686 comments I remember the Sleestak! Lol

message 21: by Jenny (last edited Aug 18, 2023 06:17AM) (new)

Jenny | 7639 comments Lisa (Aussie Girl) and I have been working on the Doctor Who monster list.

Please have a look, and suggest away!

(view spoiler)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6154 comments Just a tweek for Weeping Angels -

Combine task 1 & 2 and change Task 2 as below.

1. Features a scene in a graveyard/cemetery or a gravestone on the cover - (kudos if it happens to be a creepy angel!)
2. RAB tagged "angels" or "demons" over 1000 times.

And I've just got to do Davros, LOL

1. RAB with an evil genius mastermind or serial killer.
2. RAB with the letters of VORTEX in the title.
3. Read a series with includes over 20 books.
4. Read a book set on a spaceship or planet other than Earth.

This has been the greatest fun, can't wait to play the Dr Who Wheel. Thanks Jenny, it's been a blast so far..

message 23: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7639 comments Done and done!

message 24: by Angie ☯ (last edited Aug 17, 2023 09:08PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 2686 comments I have one for you! (I'll try to work on some others when I get a some down time.)

-Judoon
1. RAB where MC is in law enforcement (intergalactic police force, even better!)
2. RAB with a scene that takes place in a hospital.
3. RAB where a character consumes blood or is a shape shifter.
4. RAB with a full moon on the cover.

Feel free to change or edit any of those or reject completely! Lol!!

message 25: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7639 comments Bloody good one!!! Adding now.

message 26: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 2686 comments OR, maybe change the last task for "RAB with Rhinoceros in the text." Didn't know how difficult that one would be.

message 27: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7639 comments Do we care if it is difficult? Really?

message 28: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 2686 comments Not unless it borders on impossible... Lol!

message 29: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7639 comments So, no to RAB with a policeman riding a rhino on the cover that contains a shape-shifting nurse with the habit of drinking his patients' blood?

Fine.

message 30: by Lisa - (Aussie Girl) (last edited Aug 17, 2023 10:34PM) (new)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6154 comments Welcome to the fun, Angie.

I'm sure someone in this group challenge would be able to find the rhino riding, blood drinking intergalatic policeman. Lolololol.

Where are our bookish creatures first?

We've got a couple of Discworld ones already from TTX, plus a basilisk, and I'd add in things like:
- Tock the Watchdog from Phantom Tollbooth
- Nagini / Voldermort / Umbridge from HP
- Shelob, Gollum, Nagzul from LotR
- Pennywise because Jenny
- R Daneel (I Robot)
- Hot Prof's dinos
- Morlocks (and arguably also the Eloi) from The Time Machine
- Triffids
- Phantom from Phantom of the Opera

Dracula, Frankenstien etc if not elsewhere

message 33: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 11586 comments Loving it! But angels or demons over 1000x? There are less than 20 books that qualify under angels, and none under Demons. maybe 100x would be more sensible?

YES!

Though I think Stephen King could have his very own wheel! (Happy to work on that, I've read them all, lol)

well that's dangerous, as right now I'm stuck on Hot Prof ideas!

Thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

and my thinking cap is on for a better (or at least less annoying) name!

why do I do these things? Apparently the author's plumbed the depths (shallows?) of Dino Island and has moved on to a new series...

but, I pulled myself back from plunging into ALL the questions and have instead cobbled together an image for us. obvs team name and image are moveable feasts...

I have so many questions. Why is the girl dressed like this in a classroom?

And is that a dinosaur hand in the bottom corner? did the Dino Island dinosaurs escape like in Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World?

WHAT!?!?!

all my questions too Judith!!

When's the next team challenge going down, so we can con people into reading this to find the answers???

ETA: to be clear, I do NOT, under any circumstances, want that comment to be taken as serious, and will be shooting down in violent flames any suggestion that it becomes a backroom BOM!

But... But... It looks like such a fantastic piece of literature! 😂

message 44: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 11586 comments Also, I may have been giving my brain a bit of exercise jotting down Stephen king monsters, villains and creatures (oh my!) and have thought of 40 off the top of my head. I could probably come up with more (he has written about 80 books! lol), but don't want to go too nuts, lol.

Work for a wheel?

Cat, I am not sure if Judith shared with the other mods but I made a literary monster wheel. I have monsters from HP and LOTR and King. I tried to avoid human monsters but included:
- Shelob, Smaug, Balrog
- Pennywise because Jenny
- Morlocks (and arguably also the Eloi) from The Time Machine

and might have to shoe-horn the Triffids into that one too - I introduced my eldest nibling to the Triffids & Wyndham this summer - received pretty raptorously

The reviews mention a nonsensical/nonexistent plot and a dubious attitude to consent. At least he hasn't changed his writing style!
