Before Kiki's Delivery Service became the Studio Ghibli movie we all know and love, it was a children's fantasy novel by Eiko Kadono. To celebrate the arrival of three limited-time menu items, McDonald's Japan is partnering up with the children's classic for a new animated commercial. Kiki, Jiji, and the charming world around them return to advertise the fast food chain's European Burgers—a trio of sandwiches inspired by flavors from across European countries. On the menu for a limited time are German Potato and Beef (a beef patty with German potato filling and mustard sauce), Peperon Juicy Hot Chicken (a chicken patty with red pepper breading and garlic mayo), and Bouillabaisse-Style Shrimp (a breaded shrimp patty with bouillabaisse sauce and aioli). Art of Kiki and Jiji will also appear on the packaging for the limited-edition burgers. Related: WcDonald's Becomes Real with First Anime Short by Studio Pierrot You'll also...

CinemaWhile Hollywood animation films have always been easily accessible, Netflix has now made available wonderful films like 'My Neighbour Totoro' and more.Anjana ShekarIMDBWhen Princess Mononoke released in 1997 in Japan, the anime film created such a sensation across that country that it became the very first animated feature film to win Best Picture in the 21st Japan Academy Prize. This win was a huge set point for animated films in the country, changing the way such content was consumed by the audience and critics. While animated films from Hollywood, popularly Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios, have enjoyed wide access with worldwide theatrical releases and a fanbase spread across the globe, online streaming platform Netflix now has an impressive collection of animated films made in Japan. When discussing the list of award-winning Japanese anime films, the contribution of Studio Ghibli, founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki, Toshio Suzuki,...

For those that aren't familiar with it, Kiki's Delivery Service is a live action take on Studio Ghibli's 1989 animated feature, directed by Japan's very own Uncle Walt, Hayao Miyazaki. The new film is based on the children's fantasy novel "Kiki's Delivery Service" by Eiko Kadono, first published in 1985 by Fukuinkan Shoten. In a surprising change of pace, The Grudge director Shimizu Takashi has adapted the enchanting story of a girl who comes to terms with her magical power into a charming live-action film. With a script co-written by Shimizu and Okudera Satoko (Summer Wars), the new Kiki's Delivery Service stars newcomer Koshiba Fuka as Kiki, a young witch who flies to a seaside town to complete her training. I too was quite surprised when I found out that this film was in production. I was even more surprised with the director that was making the film: Japanese master of horror Takashi Shimizu. So let’s get one thing straight right away (even though you probably already noticed): this is no horror film. If you are even only a little bit familiar with Japanese cinema, chances are that you know about Anime; Japanese animation that has taken the world by storm in the last few decades. If you know anything about Anime, you have probably heard of legendary director Hayao Miyazaki and his timeless masterpieces he created for Studio Ghibli. In 1989, Miyazaki released Majo no Takkyūbin, internationally known as Kiki’s Delivery Service.

This is more like it. Both the teaser and the first full trailer were low on content, but the second trailer gives us a much better idea of what to expect from Kiki's live-action debut. The effects look better this time out, new characters are introduced and Jiji - Kiki's talkative black cat - gets a lot more screen time. It's still early days on this one but we thought it was worth mentioning because the animated version of Kiki's Delivery Service is such a popular movie around the world. For those that aren't familiar with it, Kiki's Delivery Service is a live action take on Studio Ghibli's 1989 animated feature, directed by Japan's very own Uncle Walt, Hayao Miyazaki. A young girl named Kiki (Fuka Koshiba) must leave her home for a year to begin training in witchcraft. She leaves on her broom, but first says goodbye to her friends and family.

Heading to Japanese cinemas in March is the live action take on Kiki's Delivery Service. Here's the trailer...
One of the many cherishable classics from the Studio Ghibli stable is the wonderful Kiki's Delivery Service. But as we reported a while back, an entirely separate live action take on the material is in the works in Japan.
It's gone back to the source novel, penned by Eiko Kadono. Her book was first published back in 1985, and she's gone on to pen four sequels to date. That said, this new film is apparently based around the first book, although don't hold us to that.
What we do have for you, courtesy of Anime News Network (via Bleeding Cool), is the first trailer for the live action Kiki's Delivery Service. There's also the news that the film itself is set for release in Japan on March 1st 2014. Here's the teaser trailer.

★★★★★ The trials and tribulations of teen witches and wizards have become worldwide phenomenon. Unlike Mildred Hubble or Sabrina Spellman, however, the eponymous heroine of Kiki's Delivery Service (Majo no takkyûbin, 1989) is spared the hassle of concealing her powers. The opposite, in fact: 13-year-old Kiki is obliged to leave home for a year as part of her witch training to find a new town and hone her skills. Heading to a coastal city, Kiki founds a delivery service, turning her ability to fly a broomstick into a source of employment. Based on a novel by Eiko Kadono, this Ghibli heartwarmer is now available on Blu-ray.
Kiki's Delivery Service doesn't have the spiritual weirdness of Hayao Miyazaki's later masterpieces Princess Mononoke (1997) or Spirited Away (2001), nor the sweeping scale which characterised both his earlier and later work. In place of an epic adventure, Kiki's is a more episodic, character-driven piece that succeeds...

Currently in production in Japan, Kiki's Delivery Service offers a live-action take on the Eiko Kadono book series that was famously adapted for the big screen by Studio Ghibli and writer-director Hayao Miyazaki in 1989. Today, Japanese film site Eigo has revealed (via Twitch ) the first image from the film, which stars Fûka Koshiba in the title role. Said to adapt the first two novels in the series, the live-action film follows the adventures of a young witch, Kiki and her cat, Jiji. Takashi Shimizu, best known for directing the original Japanese version of The Grudge , is helming the production, which is expected to hit theaters in Japan in 2014.

Castle In The Sky
Hayao Miyazaki’s art has possibly never been on better display than it was with Castle in the Sky. The backgrounds are lush, colorful, and have an atmosphere to them that’s really unmatched in other animated pictures. The film is also a divine showcase of Miyazaki’s imagination when you take a look at the flying and flying machines the man invigorates the film with. This is a society you want to visit and possibly even live in, which is absolutely breathtaking. While this might be the least complex of Miyazaki’s works, it’s arguably his most gorgeous to look at. Watch this one subtitled as the English dub leaves much to be desired.
