Ricky Greenwood (aka Eric Boisvert), the darling new filmmaker for Mile High Media, follows up one of the most successful releases from its Sweetheart Video label with this dead-serious, ambitious Lesbian porn film. He has recently taken over the sister label Transsensual from women filmmakers, and we'll see how that turns out.
But for the present, Ricky/Eric has fashioned a wonderfully-acted drama filled with interesting characters, all of them nuns. Extremely compelling is Nina Hartley, echoing that mainstream cinema ploy of performing sans the usual flattering makeup, giving a strong performance as the ailing Mother Superior, who still has enough strength left in her to make love quite evocatively to her ancient flame, fellow Mother Joan, perfectly played by Lesbian icon Magdalene St. Michaels. Maggie previously starred memorably in Nica Noelle's "Mother Superior", making her casting as a stern religious stalwart not loath to dishing out punishment with her whip a natural.
Chief object of Maggie's wrath as Mother Joan (see: Ken Russell's "The Devils" or Jerzy Kawalerowicz's classic "Mother Joan of the Angels") is Mona Wales, reprising her role as Sister Mona. She is prepped here for stardom in the third volume of this trilogy, sent by the clergy from Nina's to Maggie's convent after the scandal regarding her sexual debauchery. Intrigue at the convents concerns Nina's successor and what transpires at Mother Joan's home base.
A lovely and very sexy big-bust sex scene outdoors featuring Lena Paul and Cassidy Banks may be extraneous but is the show's unabashed hedonist segment, while Maggie and Nina's coupling presents finally requited love at its most dramatic. Mona's torture by Maggie is vividly depicted, and she gets plenty of tender loving care afterward by Maggie's soft-hearted assistant Sister Mary, sympathetically played by the arousing Serene Siren.
James Avalon photographed the show with wonderul lighting, and also appears briefly as a priest in confessional, hearing Maggie's second thoughts about her own behavior. I don't know if the competition (Girlfriends Films as well as Bree Mills over at Gamma Entertainment) is paying attention, but this sort of serious Adult Cinema leaves their surface sex videos in the dust.
