Morgan Murphy Media has closed on its $13.375 million purchase of six radio stations, two FM translators, and three TV stations from Marks Media Group.
“The many TV and radio stations that Steve Marks assembled in Michigan finally passed to the new owners yesterday, Morgan Murphy Media,” said Larry Patrick, who brokered the deal. “Mary Marks, the widow and Executrix of Steve’s estate did a terrific job shepherding a complex sale past the finish line. All the best to Chris Cornelius who added these stations to the MMM portfolio. The stations are in good hands as part of a legacy media company led by Elizabeth Murphy Burns. Pleased that both sides worked hard to make this happen. Glad that I was able to bring the parties together.”
Morgan Murphy Media, which owns radio stations in Wisconsin, Iowa, Idaho, and Washington, gains classic hits “97.7 The Wolf” WOLV, hot AC “The Lift” WCCY (1400), and the construction permit for WHBS (96.3), all in Houghton, MI. The deal also includes the Houghton-licensed FM translator W257CZ at 99.3, which simulcasts WCCY.
In Iron River, MI, MMM picks up classic rock WIKB (99.1) and classic country WFER (1220), along with the Iron River, MI-licensed FM translator W250CQ at 97.9, which simulcasts WFER.
The television stations included in the deal are WBKB-TV Alpena, MI, along with WBUP-TV Ishpeming, MI, and WBKP-TV Calumet, WI.
