User Services and Collection Division (USCD)

NLM User Services and Collection Division (USCD)

We’ve reorganized! As of January 1, 2024, Library Operations (LO) transitioned to the User Services and Collection Division (USCD). Our name may have changed, but our mission remains the same.

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has a legislative mandate to collect, preserve, and disseminate biomedical health information. As one of the largest NLM divisions, the User Services and Collection Division (USCD) supports this mandate by collecting, curating, and connecting the world to scholarly biomedical literature, health information, and data resources.

Throughout the year, as our new identity evolves, we will align our public web presence to mirror USCD's public products and services model. While we are changing the way we work, our commitment to what we do - collect, curate, and connect - and to our core products and services will remain the same.

Should you need assistance / have feedback during this process, please contact the NLM Support Center. Thank you for your patience!

What We Do

3 gears and this text. Collect: Acquire and preserve unique

  • Collect by selecting, acquiring, and preserving one of the world’s largest and most trusted physical and digital collections of health and biomedical information – in both physical and digital form;
  • Curate by cataloging, indexing, processing, and creating metadata to make biomedical information FAIR, or Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable, through our rich portfolio of resources; and
  • Connect by linking our diverse global audience to NLM’s collections, products, and services for users of all backgrounds to learn, research, and discover information about health and biomedical matters.
