Labour has selected a former mayor of Didcot as their candidate to fight the next General Election in Didcot and Wantage.
Mocky Khan, the first Asian mayor of Didcot and Labour leader on South Oxfordshire and Didcot Town councils, said it was "such an honour" to be selected.
He said: "I am passionate about the climate, education, supporting our local businesses, providing a voice to those that are underrepresented and protecting our great NHS, trade unions and welfare system.
"In the coming months, I will have much more to say on these issues."
He said as a councillor he has been fighting for improved amenities and infrastructure such as dentists, schools and GP surgeries and lobbying for a new minor injuries unit at Didcot Community Hospital.
He said he would campaign for more affordable homes to be built, to promote opportunities for young people and vulnerable residents and to enhance connectivity between South Oxfordshire towns and villages by improving cycle lanes and improving public transport links.
