In 1998, The Human Bean opened its first store in Ashland, Oregon.[1] In early-2002, the company began franchising their brand throughout southern Oregon and nationwide.[1]

The Human Bean has 174 locations.[1] The franchise is located in 23 U.S. states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming, and West Virginia.[3][4]

While most locations are drive-through only, there are a few locations that offer indoor seating in addition to the drive through.[5]

The chain sponsors women's[6] and men's health initiatives.[7] Its chief operating officer is Scott Anderson.[8]
