Borris L. Miles[1] (born 1965), Democrat is a member of the Texas House of Representatives from District 146[2]. Miles was elected in 2006, defeating the 26 year incumbent Democrat, Al Edwards.[3] He has been assigned to the Government Reform[4] and Licensing and Administrative Procedures[5] Committees.
He is a lifelong resident of the district who grew up in Sunnyside. A former law enforcement officer, Mr. Miles is a successful entrepreneur and businessman, leaving a promising corporate career to launch his own insurance agency. He started his one-man operation in his garage apartment, and today his company – Borris L. Miles Insurance -- writes more than $45 million dollars in insurance premiums annually.
Mr. Miles’ office is located in Houston's Third Ward on Almeda, where he purchased and renovated two city blocks and provides professional lease space to seven other minority-owned businesses and their employees. Mr. Miles believes that by investing in his community, he has made a positive impact on the business and economic base in the area.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Miles is very active in his community. Some of his civic and other affiliations are as follows:

Mr. Miles is most of proud of the award; “Greatest Daddy in the World” presented to him in 2005 by his children, Justus and Faith Miles.
Mr. Miles attended Yates High School and graduated from the Houston High School for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. He received the Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Criminal Science from Sam Houston State University. He has two children, Justus, age 8 and Faith, age 5. Mr. Miles attends Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.
