Frank is a staff writer for TGS with Tracy Jordan, the show-within-a-show]. According to "Frank Talk", a blog on the official 30 Rock website purportedly written by him, he originally came to work on the show when he sent a complaint letter to The Insane Girl Show and it was sent to The Girlie Show by mistake. Apparently, Liz mistook his letter for an "avant-garde comedy piece" as she hired him a week later.

Frank is very clever and often quick-witted. Frank always wears a trucker hat with a humorous phrase on it (which is also Friedlander's real-life routine trademark).

He is the only member of the show's staff who is happy when actor Tracy Jordan joins the show, because he is the only one who enjoys Tracy's movies.

He owns every copy of Black Tail magazine ever published.

Frank also like to play pranks along with Toofer, mostly around Jenna Maroney. She exacted revenge locking him outside Jack Donaghy's office balcony with no clothes on after he and Toofer told her that she might be fired. (This prank plot was mostly eliminated when the episode Jack-tor was edited down from 40 to 30 minutes in an encore presentation (rerun).) It was also revealed in the episode The Break Up that he had a racist uncle after he watched Tracy and Toofer argue. He also lives with his mother and his rent money goes directly to her.

Frank's trucker hats

Friedlander says he makes his character's hats himself using phrases that he comes up with. [1] This is a table describing the color and message on hats that Frank has worn on the series:
