The Friday Times is Pakistan's first English-language independent newsweekly, based in Lahore, Pakistan. It was first published on 25 May, 1989.
TFT’s editorial policy is independent as demonstrated by the national and international standing of the newspaper. TFT’s founder-editor, Najam Sethi, and publisher Jugnu Mohsin, are recipients of international awards conferred by Amnesty International and the Committee to Protect Journalists. TFT is the most highly quoted Pakistani paper in the international press. [citation needed]
Editorially, TFT holds the view that Pakistan was conceived by the Founding Fathers to be a liberal, modern Muslim state where free thought and free enterprise go hand in hand. TFT opposes obscurantism and dogmatic thinking and stands for the democratic rights of all citizens, regardless of creed or gender.
Stephen P. Cohen, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, wrote in his 2004 book, The Idea of Pakistan, that TFT provided "some of the most serious analytical reporting found in Pakistan, or all Asia for that matter."[1]
The Friday Times' Consulting Editor is Khaled Ahmed, its News Editor Ejaz Haider.
TFT's in-house artist is Sabir Nazar.
