She received 1 million in cash and a contract with Viva Management. Following her contract, Viva's owner Vicente Del Rosario became her manager.[2] Geronimo established herself as a pop artist in the Philippines when she released her first album, Popstar: A Dream Come True, where she recorded her first singles Forever's Not Enough, If Only, and Sa Iyo.[2]
In 2004, she entered ABS-CBN and become part of a musical variety show called ASAP, which aired every Sunday. Life and career
Childhood and early beginnings
Sarah Geronimo was born July 25, 1988 as the third of four children and grew up in a rented house in Santa Cruz, Manila Philippines. She was born to Delfin Geronimo, a retired PLDT employee, and Divina Geronimo, who ran a home beauty parlor in Santa Cruz Manila.[7]
At the age of two, Geronimo showed a good timing and vocal potential.[7] When she was four, she appeared as a regular member of the cast of the children's TV show Pen-Pen de Sarapen group (1992-1994), hosted by Connie Angeles.[1][8] At six, she did a mini-concert at Isetann Cinema Complex on Recto Avenue, a few blocks away from their house.[8] She also joined a singing contest sponsored by PLDT, where she performed "The Greatest Performance of My Life" and won first prize.[7] At the age of eight, she enrolled at the Center for Pop Music Philippines where she received her first formal music and voice lessons.[8] Geronimo was also performing in hotel lounges, on campuses, and in shopping malls, while guesting in various TV shows; around this time she was cast in the ABS-CBN landmark children's show Ang TV.[1][8] She also played a cameo role in Star Cinema’s Sarah, Ang Munting Prinsesa.[8]
During this time, Geronimo's family experienced financial and other trouble; the bankruptcy of the family business and sickness in the family led to financial problems, making it difficult to afford audition and tuition fees.[7]
Career breakthrough: 2002-2003
Due to family's financial problems, in 2002 Geronimo entered a nationwide singing contest previously aired in IBC 13, the Star For A Night competition hosted by Regine Velasquez. On March 1, 2003 she sang "To Love You More" and "To Mother with Love" as a contest piece and made the judges see a rising star in her appearance.[7] The 14 yrs old Geronimo won the competition with a prize of 1 million pesos and a 10-year contract with Viva Entertainment Group. In addition, Vicente Del Rosario, owner of Viva Management became her manager. Her Mother said: "Her cash prize in Star For a Night was a big help, This schoolyear, we don't need to borrow money from other people because of my children's tuition fees".[8] She was also given the title of Pop Star Princess after winning the competition.[2][7]
Geronimo became the featured artist in MTV’s Rising Star for the Whole month of September.[1] Also in the same month Geronimo released her debut album, Popstar: A Dream Come True and her first concert at the music museum with the same title.[9][10] Geronimo's real career breakthrough came when she released her first album Popstar: A Dream Come True and produced singles such as "Forever's Not Enough", "If Only", "To Love You More," and "Sa Iyo".[2] When she recorded her debut album, Geronimo recalled, Star For a Night host, Regine Velasquez gave her pointers on voice projection and how to hit high notes without straining her vocal chords too much..[8] On October 4, 2003, Geronimo staged first concert Popstar: A Dream Come True with the same title as her first album. Due to public request, On October 24 2003, Geronimo staged her Popstar: A Dream Come True: The Repeat.[9]
Geronimo's acting career starts in the film Filipinas where she's been introduced as an actress and not a singer.[8] Geronimo's co-star in the film, Maricel Soriano predicts a bright future for her. Soriano said that:
That girl will go far. She’s only 14, right? For someone like Sarah who is first time to appear and act in a film, she's good and I'm proud of her.[11]
Early Success: 2004-2007
In 2004, Geronimo signed a contract with ABS-CBN, where she had her first acting project starring in a drama series entitled Sarah, The Teen Princess.[12][13] She also stars in a musical variety show, ASAP that aired every Sunday. ASAP became her opportunity to get the attention of the public, and it is also her place to enhance her singing and dancing skills.[14] In 2005, Geronimo sang the theme of a Star Cinema movie, Can This Be Love.[15] She also became part of the fourth season of the weekly teen-oriented program SCQ Reload, Kilig Ako.[16] She also played in the fantasy movie Lastikman, produced by VIVA Films.[17]
In November 2004, Geronimo released her second album, Sweet Sixteen, with "How Could You Say You Love Me" as the first single. Along with other reality star search winners Rachelle Ann Go and Erik Santos, Geronimo performed in the Night of the Champions concert at the Araneta Coliseum, followed by a tour of the US. [18] On September 29, 2005, Geronimo staged her first major concert at the Araneta Coliseum entitled The Other Side.[19] The concert filled almost 16,000 seats of the coliseum.[19][19] Viva Records released a live DVD album of a solo concert in Araneta Coliseum, The Other Side: Live Album. In the summer of 2005, a rerun of the Night of the Champions toured the US for two months.[20]
In 2006, she was cast in ABS-CBN's primetime soap opera, Bituing Walang Ningning, a remake of the 1985 classic box-office hit movie. She stars as an aspiring singer named Dorina Pineda, the role originally played by Sharon Cuneta in the movie version in 1985.[21] She also released a soundtrack of the series. Her third studio album, Becoming, it was produced by international producer and composer Christian De Walden, and released in August 2006. During the launch of the album, De Walden said: "She's definitely the biggest talent I have come across with the last ten years". He was particularly astounded by Geronimo's ability to not only learn a song fast but style it almost worthy patent.[22] The album yielded three singles: "I Still Believe In Loving You", "Carry My Love" and "Iingatan Ko Ang Pag-ibig Mo". According to one critic, "the album isn't completely successful. It's nevertheless heartening to hear Sarah spreading her musical wings by trying new types of songs that wouldn't have been considered in the lineup of her showy first albums."[23]
Geronimo continued to perform globally as she staged concerts in Taiwan, Canada, Alaska, and Dubai. She also held "The Other Side US Tour" in San Diego, Hanford, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Honolulu, Maui, Washington DC and Atlantic City. [24] Due to insistent public demand, Geronimo staged her "The Other Side of Sarah US Tour Part 2" in San Diego, California, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Alaska, Chicago, Honolulu and Maui.[25] In Philstar news, it is said that Geronimo is the first filipino to perform in Harris Theater for Music and Dance of Millennium Parks in Chicago.[25] On November 18, 2006, she was chosen by Manny Pacquiao to sing the Philippine national anthem Lupang Hinirang prior to his match against Mexico's Erik Morales at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.[26]
She staged her second major solo concert on July 14, 2007, at the Araneta Coliseum entitled Sarah Geronimo In Motion. Before the concert, Geronimo said that "I was praying that; everything will go well because my previous major concert The Other Side, the aircondition has been shut down due to major problems. Thus, the audience suffered from the hot atmosphere in the coliseum". [27] Geronimo also concluded that she was excited in her concert because, she is going to do a dance performance with Gary Valenciano.[27] After this concert, Sarah has a follow-up concert of the same title in Clark Expo in Pampanga on July 21 2007.[27] On July 2007, Geronimo confirm that she'll stage the "Sarah In Motion" US tour in August-September 2007.[28][29]

"The Next One" Philippine tour will take her to perform in 14 different cities and provinces in the Philippines.[43][44]
