Nitrutsav, often written as NITRUtsav and popularly known as NU, is the annual cultural festival of the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela. It is an annual three-day-long carnival held towards the beginning of the month of February. Organised by the Literary Society in association with the Art and Cultural Society of the Student Activity Center, NIT Rourkela, it includes various cultural performances and events based on a common theme. Started in 2005, NU has gained immense popularity among the masses to become one of the largest of its kind in eastern India.

Inception and Growth

Nitrutsav was established in year 2005, as a cultural inter-college fête. With more than 10 editions of it successfully organised and conducted, it has achieved bigger and better success with each passing year and has proved to be a ball for the collaborating patrons.

It attracts a strength of 4000+ students from various engineering colleges and B-schools spread all across the breadth and span of India. Previous versions of NU have been host to many enthralling performances by bands and celebrities of international fame. Some prominent ones among them are Euphoria, Jal, Aryans, Metro, Shabd, Mohammad Irfan, The Local Train, Thermal Projekt, ACEAXE and Agnee.[1]

With themes varying from Bollyvaganza to Modern Renaissance to 2016's "Nostalgic 90's" and 2017's "Lights, Camera, NU!", Nitrutsav has always striven to provide the attendees with a one-of-a-kind atmosphere to indulge in, with exciting events around every corner. NU 2018 will observe Retro as its theme, with its tagline as "Play. Pause. Rewind."
