InterFuse is the name of the Midwest regional burn, first held in April 2004 at a beautiful, 150-acre wooded location near Columbia, Missouri and attended by 186 people from fourteen different states. The event included rain, camping, the Mindlicker (a black-lighted geodesic dome with several DJs spinning techno, trance, and other tunes), as well as energetic West African drumming, fire spinning, fireworks, and "Wheaty," a flaming human effigy ignited by fire breathers. The organizers are a collection of Burning Man aficionados from Topeka, Lawrence, Kansas City, and St. Louis. The second InterFuse will be held in May 2005 with the theme of "Mad Science."
