More information needed

Didn't Joe Walsh and Barmstorm tour with Humble Pie in the 1970's? C'mon guys, I know there's alot more information to put on here. Stuff like how he entered rehab after appearing in the Howard Stern Show and, oh, I don't know, WHEN HE RAN FOR PRESIDENT!?!?!?

There is an early 90s Howard Stern clip of Billy West mocking Joe Walsh. It came to discussion that he had been ordered by the Eagles to stop drinking and what not, and rehab had forbade him from hanging out with old friends that encouraged that behavior.

Apparently, that meant he would never appear on the Stern show again. They renamed him Stepford Joe Walsh

Well, I don't think that you should complain. When a person adds things, you shouldn't delete it and complain about content. Yes, I admit it was out of place in that paragraph, but at least you could have MOVED IT TO IT'S OWN SECTION. -Damien Vryce 16:34, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Joe was on Stern on 8/21/06. He gave a lengthy interview, which gave many interesting facts. I was working at the time and cannot remember most of them. Anyone else have that info?--pahsons 23:23, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Personally, I want to know how he lost his teeth. The best I could find on google was a mocking paragraph which said that he lost them by knocking them out when using the talk box. lol --BlueStream 09:42, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Years and years ago, a friend of mine asserted that Joe Walsh became a heroin addict after his wife and children were killed in a car wreck; I've never been able to find any verification of this. If it's true, it's terribly tragic; if not, I've been feeling sorry for Joe for all these years for the wrong reason (this friend of mine often came up with unsubstantuiated assertions). Anyone know?

About Jimmy Page's Guitar

Can someone make it clear for us was that Sunburst Les Paul Joe Walsh's main guitar? or was it only Walsh's guitar and he gave it to Page and then it was specialized by Page?

bottom line: That Les Paul was special to Page or to Walsh? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Punkruptcy (talkcontribs) 09:58, 27 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Pete Townshend

"Walsh gave Pete Townshend (guitarist/songwriter for The Who) the guitar he used on Who's Next. In return, Townshend gave Walsh his first Synthesiser." Shouldnt it be the other way around? this makes no sense. --Krautukie 02:18, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Walsh had a habit of giving away guitars as gifts. He had not experimented with any type of synthesiser prior to giving a guitar to Townshend. Townshend, who had been experimenting with a Moog for quite a while, reciprocated Walsh's gift by giving him a synthesiser... since Walsh had never used one previously. What "makes no sense" about that?... except that it falls on this talk page underneath a topic header about Page's guitar and has nothing to do with Townshend. 202.160.48.156 02:44, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Teetotaller?

(moved from top of page by emw 03:20, 22 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I challenge the challenge as being moot. The fact remains the Joe Walsh is one of the greatest artists, singer, sonwriter and guitar player of the rock era. Let the rest go and appreciate his contributions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lostbayern (talkcontribs) 23:03, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I challenge the teetotler part. Joe Walsh apeared to be drunk at the eagles show in las vegas. The show was at Mandalay Bay during the last week of 1999.

I second this Challenge as he was deffinately drinking beer ontstage during a tour with Glen Frey in the late 80's/early 90's which i personally saw - Idiotninja

Were there any news reports of drink / drug abuse or convictions duriing his life? These would be part of his personal life. John a s 18:32, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On removal of "Dr."

Academic and professional titles like "Professor" or "Doctor" are not to be used; see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies)#Academic_titles. Instead, a description of the apropriate qualifications should be included in the body text. Regardless of WP policy, one should never use a title based on an honorary degree. --emw 03:20, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What the fuck is that picture

Who the fuck thought a shitty line drawing of a face was a useful fucking image for this article?? 72.40.101.115 (talk) 18:32, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's pretty funny. Keep it. (Totally not signing my post). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.63.125.55 (talk) 17:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This was my reaction exactly. It would be better to have an actual picture of Joe Walsh, but as long as nobody finds one, might as well keep this ridiculous line drawing. NickRinger (talk) 19:20, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ouch. I vehemently disagree that this drawing is better than nothing, and I've removed it. --Bongwarrior (talk) 06:59, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed banjo from his instrument list. Walsh is not a banjo player, never has been. Nor has he recorded any notable banjo playing (he did replace Bernie Leadon in Eagles, but Bernie's live banjo duties were transferred to Don Felder in order to keep Midnight Flyer on the Hote California tour setlist)

Also why is there a link to Free Bird (the Lynyrd Skynyrd song) under the section "solo". I don't remember Joe Walsh playing with Skynyrd, is this a joke of some kind? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eaglesfan8881 (talkcontribs) 09:55, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NOT what in links?

Links say NOT fanpage, NOT fansite, and link to some random Myspace. That... can't be right. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.163.77.172 (talk) 10:41, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Average Joe

Isn't he sometimes known as "Average" Joe Walsh? I'm pretty sure I've heard/ read about this nickname on some websites and on The Drew Carey Show, but I don't know of any citable references. Minaker (talk) 13:39, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is in fact true, he's also known as the "Clown Prince of Rock". Joe Vitale 5 (talk) 13:50, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"In response to moving to New York City, Walsh began a lifelong hobby of amateur ("ham") radio with the callsign WB6ACU."

This makes no sense. If Joe Walsh became an Amateur Radio Operator while living in New York, his callsign would have a 2 instead of a 6. A 6 indicates residence in California, yet the biography makes no mention of him ever living there. Something's not right here.

Please See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amateur_radio_licensing_in_the_United_States — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.109.75.166 (talk) 01:06, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No mystery at all. Amateur licensees who permanently move to a new state can (and were once required to) get a new call sign that corresponds to their new location.
Also, I've added a sound file of Walsh on the air, recorded by me about 10 years ago when I was a more active ham. He's just a regular guy enjoying his hobby, and we always treated him as such. - LuckyLouie (talk) 22:44, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Little late to the discussion (and this may be a bit of a nitpick) but is it accurate to say one “began a lifelong interest” in something as a full-grown adult who’s had a successful career? Capneb (talk) 04:53, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Commercially successful?

This article calls the James Gang, "commercially successful", yet the article James Gang says "the band was not a huge commercial success". I'm not sure that any quibbles about "huge" are quite enough to resolve this contradiction. 81.159.106.144 (talk) 00:45, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Problem solved. Joe Vitale 5 (talk) 20:27, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Eagles montage

I believe that the montage of the Eagles from their Long Road Out of Eden Tour should be featured on the article. It is featured on the article for the Eagles, the Eagles discography, Timothy B. Schmit, etc. If anybody wants to talk to me about this, please leave a message on my talk page. Thank you.--67.54.187.27 (talk) 21:12, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why isn't Barnstorm listed as a solo album?

The Album is listed as [Walsh and Barnstorm] - but it is really his first solo album. The album has his name prominently featured on the cover and at the time, it was considered a "Joe Walsh album". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeffmaslan (talkcontribs) 03:30, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Technically it's a Barnstorm album. See the Joe Walsh discography for how the albums are listed. Pkeets (talk) 13:06, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I do agree with Jeffmaslan, it does seem rather confusing. Joe Vitale 5 (talk) 13:45, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"solo ... by Walsh and Don Felder"? Isn't a solo technically, by definition, by one person?

"The guitar solo on the track Hotel California by Walsh and Don Felder[4] was, in 1998 by Guitarist magazine, " Should this be "guitar solos" or tweaked in some other way? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ccheever (talkcontribs) 08:30, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty Maids

Isn't it peculiar that there are six paragraphs of general Eagles info here on the Joe Walsh page about the album Hotel California, but no mention of the fact that Joe Walsh wrote and sang the song "Pretty Maids All in a Row" on that album? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.89.36.147 (talk) 04:29, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FYI: He wrote it with Joe Vitale his Barnstorm colleague and performs it often on his solo tours because it is essentially his own song. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.147.130.240 (talk) 01:34, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

lead sentence

The current lead sentence: "Joseph Fidler Walsh (born November 20, 1947)[1] is an American singer, songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and record producer." is overwrought. Any suggestions on how to streamline it, to better follow the guidelines WP:LEADSENTENCE and WP:BLPLEAD? LK (talk) 10:54, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Genre changes

I have plans to change the genres to better represent all the musical styles he does but want to post it here for other users to throw in their opinions on this subject before I change them. The genres as of the current are Hard rock, blues rock, pop rock and country rock but those are rather bland so to speak. Yes, he did those genres but he also incorporated loads of other genres such as soft rock and reggae fusion so to cover all these genres, I was thinking of changing the genres to just Rock, pop, blues, country, folk and reggae fusion since those seem like they sum up all the musical styles he incorporated on his albums. I can remove reggae fusion if you don't feel it to be appropriate. Let me know what you think. Also, could you let me know on my talkpage when you respond to this please? I don't have an e-mail registered and to register one, I have to re-login as verification but I forgot my password here. Jakob9999 (talk) 23:02, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Jakob9999: What sources do you have to support your changes ? - FlightTime (open channel) 00:29, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@FlightTime: I don't have any sources but the genres I have in mind make logical sense to be listed as they look to cover all the musical styles he does (much like how on the pages for The Beatles and The Kinks list Rock, pop since they do stuff from both genres. 2600:8804:8440:30B:1D05:B591:7067:57DC (talk) 03:18, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think the four existing genres are suitable. The infobox instructions tell us to "aim for generality" rather than to drill down and get specific. If you want to cover the details of Walsh's stylistic endeavors you should put that information into prose in the body of the article. The instructions also recommend two to four genres in the infobox, which means we are already there.
So my position is add whatever you like to the article body, always supposing that you are summarizing a reliable source, but don't touch the infobox. Binksternet (talk) 03:46, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I tried looking around google for a source but could not find one. Gonna check Billboard to see what they say otherwise I'm gonna need a talk page consensus to support my idea. E: Billboard was no help either. Gonna need a talk page consensus. Jakob9999 (talk) 14:39, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jakob9999: We do not change genres based on personal preferences. Reliable sources and consensus are always required before changing established genres or adding new ones to articles that do not list any. - FlightTime (open channel) 21:41, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

White surpremacist?

I don't see what makes him one. I only know he is a registered Democrat, and that's all. MrLW97 (talk) 22:42, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hop Farm Festival 2011

The Eagles did not headline at the Hop Farm Festival in 2011. The headline act was Prince and a damn good show it was.

The Flew

There's no mention of The Flew in Joe's article!

"Walsh’s traveling party is his informal band, the Flew."... "When ex-Eagle guitarist Joe Walsh, scratchy-voiced English vocalist Terry Reid, and crack session musicians Nicky Hopkins, Rick Rosas and Phil Jones decide to kick up their heels, folks not only don’t complain, they come in droves and pay money to join in the fun." Stevie Nicks

there is no mention of Walsh being married to Joe Walsh Yrdnome (talk) 03:07, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you meant that Nicks was married to Walsh, no, they never married. They broke up because they loved cocaine too much. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 03:24, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Keyboards

Keyboards should be restored to the instrument list because he has played keyboards a number of times to warrant an inclusion due to his Hammond organ and electric piano playing with the eagles. GTAGamer245 (talk) 22:45, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide RS to document this. Joe Vitale played drums, keyboards, and sang backing vocals for the Eagles. If Joe Walsh also played keyboards, we need to add it, but with documentation. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 00:04, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What kind of reliable sources do they have to be? Every time I have sources, they are the wrong kind. GTAGamer245 (talk) 02:25, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have two links that show Joe Walsh credited with keyboards.
https://www.allmusic.com/album/hotel-california-mw0000189884/credits
https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-long-run-mw0000650104/credits
I hope these sources are appropriate.
if keyboards are getting added, they should be listed like this: Guitar, vocals, keyboards because he is still known more as a guitarist and vocalist GTAGamer245 (talk) 15:08, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That might be a good source. I'm not sure. No matter how I clear my cache of cookies and pause my ad blocker, I can't see the content, so I tried the Internet Archive and got this for Hotel California and this for The Long Run, so we have confirmation for those. Go for it. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 17:43, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
