The Caregiver is a fictional character appearing in the Marvel Comics universe. She is one of the Elders of the Universe. Like all Elders, she is devoted to a single pursuit, which in her case is nurturing beings that she defines as "cosmologically significant".
The Caregiver was encountered twice by the cosmic superhero Quasar. The first encounter occurred in deep space where several Elders, including the Caregiver, were investigating an enormous embryonic sac which contained the gestating physical incarnation of a cosmic entity known as Origin[1]. Quasar was investigating the sac for reasons of his own and, after a skirmish with one of the other Elders present, The Possessor, subsequently lost his protection from the rigors of space. The Caregiver displayed her benevolent nature by placing Quasar within the sac, where he was able to breathe and recover.
Quasar soon encountered her again while seeking a cure for his mother's cancer[2]. She explained that she was unable to assist as his mother was not a being of cosmic significance. It was not made clear as to whether she declined because of a personal creed or she is only capable of rendering aid to beings of a cosmic nature.
