Overview

Fire services in York Region are provided for and by each municipality. There are 35 fire stations across the region. Most services consist of full time members, but some services have volunteer firefighters.

The departments in south York Regional deals mostly with residential and commercial incidents. The northern departments deals with rural residential and agricultural fire needs.

Markham Fire has 200 firefighters on staff is responsible for fire and EMS support of Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport. Two more stations are scheduled to be built in 2009 and 2010. One will be located near Woodbine Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive. The second will be near Ninth Line and Bur Oak Drive.
