Lexington Men O' War
The Lexington Men O' War were a minor league professional ice hockey team and member of the ECHL. The Men O' War played at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky from 2002-2003. Like Lexington's previous team before them (the Kentucky Thoroughblades), success on the ice did not bring good attendance figures. The name Man O' War is from a thoroughbred race horse who was bred in Lexington, and also the name of a highly traveled road in Lexington.
Prior to playing in Lexington, the franchise was known as the Virginia Lancers (1988–90), Roanoke Valley Rebels (1990–92), Roanoke Valley Rampage (1992–93), Huntsville Blast (1993–94), Tallahassee Tiger Sharks (1994–2001), and Macon Whoopee (2001–02). After departing from Lexington, the Men O' War became the current incarnation of the Utah Grizzlies in West Valley City, Utah.
