Kabwe Kasongo (born 31 July 1970) is a Congolese retired footballer who played as a left defender.

During his extensive career, spent mainly in Portugal, he is best known for his lengthy spell at G.D. Chaves, both as player and manager.

Club career

Born in Kinshasa, Kasongo played in his country for Lubumbashi Sport and Daring Club Motema Pembe. In 1996, he embarked in a Portuguese adventure that would last 12 years (and only as a player): he started at Sporting da Covilhã in the second division, then moved to the top level with Vitória de Guimarães in the following season, being relatively used during two years.

Kasongo signed in 1999 with another modest team, Grupo Desportivo de Chaves, where he would play until his retirement, collecting almost 300 official appearances and playing exclusively – safe for 2007–08, his last year – in division two. Having stopped playing at 38 he stayed connected with the northern outfit he last represented, as its assistant manager, and helped it return to the "silver category" for the 2009–10 campaign.

International career

Kasongo played for DR Congo's national team during a full decade, his debut coming in 1992. He represented the nation at the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ghana and Nigeria, in an eventual group stage exit (only one goal conceded in three matches, but none scored).
