[edit]From Old Swedish skön, from Middle Low German schö̂ne, from Old Saxon skōni, from Proto-West Germanic *skaunī, from Proto-Germanic *skauniz (“beautiful, shining”), related to *skuþōną, which yielded skåda (“to watch, to behold”). Compare German schön, English sheen, Danish skøn.
