From *yag-du (light, bright), from Proto-Turkic *yak- (to burn; produce fire).[1]

Cognate with Tatar якты (yaktı, light), Uzbek yogʻdu (light), Turkmen ýagty (light, bright), Chuvash ҫутӑ (śut̬ă, light, bright).
