Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑁂𑀭 (kera, possessive marker). See there for more. Cognate with Bengali -এর (-er), Maithili केर (kēr), Odia -ର (-ra), and the -रा (-rā) in Hindi मेरा (merā), तेरा (terā), etc.
