COSMIC Licensing
Licence fees are applicable for the commercial use of COSMIC. This model ensures the continued growth and maintenance of the resource for academics and industry alike.
These commercial use fees apply to COSMIC data including the Cell Lines Project however this data continues to be provided free of charge for Non-Commercial use.
The definition of commercial use of COSMIC has been changed so that any use of COSMIC that relates to an individual’s health, wellbeing or any medical condition will become "Commercial Use", whether or not the individual pays money (directly or indirectly e.g. via taxation) for such use. This change has immediate effect and QIAGEN will be working with you as the end users to help with this transition.
Please see the description of commercial and non-commercial use below and a supporting diagram which outlines the new model. Full details and information on use cases will be posted in due course.
Commercial use means:
The new definition of "Commercial Use" is as follows and applies to use of data both from downloads or via the website:
"Commercial Use" means (i) any use by a company or organisation whose primary purpose is to make money, otherwise known as a "for-profit" company or organisation; or (ii) any use by a company or organisation whose primary purpose is to serve a charitable, educational, scientific or literary purpose, otherwise known as a "not for-profit" company or organisation, but where such use relates to the provision of a product or to an individual’s health, wellbeing or any medical condition.
Non-commercial use means:
Use by a company or organisation whose primary purpose is to serve a charitable, educational, scientific or literary purpose, otherwise known as a "not for-profit" company or organisation and where such use is not within the scope of "Commercial Use", as defined above (e.g. use for research or training purposes rather than for the treatment of an individual's health).
