abstract | Betainized crosslinked polymeric microparticles, a composition comprising them as a temperature-sensitive water dispersion, and their use in a method to modify the water permeability of a circulation loss zone of an underground oil reservoir. In one aspect, a process is provided to reduce the water permeability of a circulation loss zone of a porous and permeable underground oil reservoir. The process comprises injecting a composition comprising a dispersion of crosslinked polymeric microparticles betainized in an aqueous fluid into a well and into a zone of loss of circulation, where the crosslinked polymeric microparticles betainized have a transition temperature that is equal to or less than the maximum temperature that is in the zone of loss of circulation and greater than the maximum temperature that is in the well, and where the crosslinked polymeric microparticles betainized are solvated by water, expand in size and optionally are added to the circulation loss zone when they find a temperature greater than the transition temperature, in order to reduce the water permeability of the circulation loss zone. |
