abstract In a genetic engineering technology which comprises the fact of carrying out a series of operations (1) to (4): (1) integration of a gene coding for a desired substance in a vector, (2) transformation of E. coli used as host using this vector, (3) culture of the transformant thus obtained, and (49 recovery and collection of the desired substance in the culture solution: a process for producing hEGF, characterized by (a) and (b) below: (a) this substance sought is hEGF; (b) in this operation (1) above, a gene encoding a promoter for the tryptophan (trp) operation and a gene encoding a signal peptide for the E. coli alkaline phosphatase gene is integrated into an hEGF gene in the upstream region and two continuous termination codons and a transcription terminator are integrated into the downstream region.
