The invention relates to a novel secreted polypeptide-osteoprotegerin (OPG), which is a member of the family of tumor necrosis factor receptors and is involved in the regulation of bone metabolism. Polypeptides are used to treat bone diseases characterized by increased resorption, in particular osteoporosis. The invention also relates to nucleic acids encoding osteoprotegerin, polypeptides, recombinant vectors and cells, expression recipients, antibodies, antibodies that bind OPG, and to pharmaceutical compositions. |
